Absolutely, he's done brilliantly.

So far our main signing has been GJ and he has been amazing and we have a fantastic sponsorship deal.

Can't really ask for much more.

Our activities this summer looks like they were drawn out to meet every single new rule that was going to be legislated by the premier league.

1. Buy English players and increase the home grown numbers.....check
2. Cut down on the squad size......check
3. Bring financial stability to the club.....check

I have to say, in retrospect, this could be the best summer we have had in a while.

PL introduce home-grown quota

The Premier League will introduce a squad cap of 25 players and a home-grown quota from next season, Richard Scudamore has confirmed.
Scudamore: Revealed new measures
Scudamore: Revealed new measures

The 20 clubs met last Thursday to agree the introduction of a home-grown player rule, which will take effect at the start of next term, and the immediate implementation of financial reporting rules.

"As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown," said chief executive Scudamore.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system.

"Clubs will have to declare their 25 at the end of August when the window shuts and then again at the end of January."

Scudamore denies the move will encourage clubs to hoard young foreign players and claims the England team will ultimately reap the reward.

"It's not in the club's interests to stockpile players. It will make buying home-grown talent more attractive," he said.

"We're not going down the route of a nationality test but what this will mean is that you just can't buy a team from abroad.

"We think it will give clubs an extra incentive to invest in youth. We think that one of the benefits will be that it will help the England team."

All 20 Premier League members also agreed to adhere to a set of financial reporting rules designed to protect the viability and sustainability of the clubs.

"They will all have to annually submit accounts and future financial information," said Scudamore.

"At all times the board of the Premier League will be applying a test which basically says this: can the club fulfil its fixtures, pay off its creditors when they are due and also to meet obligations to the Premier League's contracts and partners?

"If the board believe a club is at risk of not meeting those obligations, it has to then step in and agree a budget for the running of that club. Any transfers can be embargoed.

"It's absolutely crucial that these clubs are run as ongoing viable concerns. These financial rules apply immediately.

"This is tied in, and we passed the rule during the summer, to a 'fit and proper person test'.

"At our club meeting last week, the clubs absolutely endorsed our position of not linking expenditure to income."

Just listing our home grown players

We need two more players to come up from our youth team? Or have i missed someone?

Does Lucas have a chance of fitting in to the home grown group?

Nope.

N'Gog won't count either, he came to us when he was 19.

Did anyone read the Mail on Sunday yesterday?

"A Premier League Manager who is happy to share his opinions has good reason to being less forthcoming about what he thinks of his clubs transfer policy. The word is that his contract includes a £2million fine if he publicly critisises the board"

Anyone think it could be Rafa? He has been very quiet, and is usually outspoken - and hasn't he signed a new contract recently?

Surely money wouldn't shut him up?

It's been mentioned on here before Ian, kinda makes sense when we consider how tight lipped Rafa has been over the financial side this Summer.

What was odd though was when Purslow came out and defended our spending as "no less than what we normally spend", despite staggering evidence to the contrary.

Lol I cant help but imagine Rafa being physically restrained after that comment, "NO, Rafa, NO! Think about the money!"

Kelly, Spearing, Darby, Martin etc.

I'm not sure they can enforce these new laws on foreign players we signed before the change occurred. Can you exclude a player who came to the country when there was no exclusion? Legally that sounds problematic. Presumably they'll have to introduce all sorts of sub-clauses to avoid a costly and elaborate debate.

"But I wouldn't be too excited about the Spanish – in that Rafa's English is excellent and he constantly tells me that my Spanish is terrible!"

Rafa : "You have quality but you must practice and work hard, then you can improve".

'I know Purslow has been criticised, but I have faith in him. He has language intelligence, he is working really hard with "Spanish For Dummies" and he says some really coherent things behind closed doors.'

It's when he talks about transfers that he doesn't sound quite right to me.

This summer Rafa and I sat down and said, ‘Actually, the team is coming off its most successful year in many a year’.

He wanted to make some small additions to our starting eleven to strengthen, at right back and at centre midfield - Johnson and Aquilani – both £20m players.

Not even the media priced Johnson at £20m, and Rafa said Aquilani was cheaper.

Aye, that does give me the hebejeebies. If he keeps up the lying in this regard, it wont be long before the fans and rafa turn on him.

I know SOS are trying to help and they at least DO something, but my god they sound like such a bunch of local council grandees these days. Lighten up, fellas - you're football fans, not members of a masonic lodge!

Representatives of the Spirit of Shankly met with Christian Purslow at Anfield last night prior to the Debrecen Champions’ League match. It was agreed that a it would be fair for a full minute of that meeting to be agreed by both parties prior to release to members. If consensus on an agreed minute could not be reached then any differences of opinion could also be disclosed (although we have no reason to believe that will be the case).

The draft is currently with the Union Management Committee for agreement and will then go to the Club for approval but we would hope to release it prior to, or over, the weekend.

The meeting was cordial and it would be fair to say that Mr. Purslow answered all the questions put to him positively and without prevarication and was extremely positive about a continued dialogue with the Union going forward.

A union? Surely that describes them as a legal representatives of a group who elected them. Please!
Fucking cowboys. I wish the club would pack in negotiating with these vigilantes.
