Dear football fans and other guests here are some Tips from local Kiev citizen :
First of all you need to know that there are two airports in Kiev
- main international airport KBP (Kyiv Boryspil airport) is situated 30km from Kiev, approx 45km from city center. The cheapest way to get to the city is a special bus - Sky Bus (link with all the info
http://skybus.kiev.ua/en/), which is passing metro and going to Central Railway station. Ticket price : 100 UAH ( about 3,2€). Or you can use Uber or local analog called Uklon (apps available for IOS or Android). Both taxis you can pay by card or cash (yes...here Uber accept cash
).
Advice- never use a taxi in airport arrival hall, prices are extremely high...
- second airport Kyiv Zhuliany airport (low-cost)- situated in the city. You can take a bus (50 m from terminal B, use bus #9 or 22 to city center), a trolley or taxi services above.
Kiev metro
- we have a very easy metro, only three lines: blue, red and green. You can use both green (Palats Sportu station) or blue (Olimpiyska station) lines to get to the Stadium. But in the match days this stations will be closed due to security reasons. You can get to nearest station and walk 5-7 mins.
Main metro stations are Maidan Nezalezhnosty and also Ploshcha Lva Tolstogo. That’s the best spots if you want to start exploring the city (Independence square, cafes and restaurants, city tours and other are here).
Currency exchange
- 1€ cost 32UAH, 1$ - 26UAH.
You can change currency everywhere in the city, rates can slightly differ but it’s not critical. Advise: don’t change money in the airport. It’s safe but rates are worse. You can change up to 20€ - that’s totally enough for getting to the city center and your hotel.
Kiev is the city of great bars and restaurants. Prices are affordable. But you better reserve the table in advance on Friday and Saturday. By the way there are plenty of places that are working till 3am or even open 24H. And even on Sundays...and even groceries
Go to Shota Rustaveli street for nice speak-easy bars ( De Bosch, Alchemist, Par Bar) or cafes serving “all day breakfasts”.
Mobile -
We have three mobile operators - Lifecell, Vodafone and Kyivstar. You can buy a very cheap (or even free but with 0 amount) SIM card in every grocery shop. Just 3-5€ (100-150UAH) will be enough for using 3G and mobile for couple of days.
