Has anybody wondered if it might be a bit of a mental thing with him - y'know, he was a Geordie playing for his boyhood team and loving it. Then he was sold (allegedly kind of against his will) for a massive sum that will be a millstone around his neck.

Perhaps he's a bit disillusioned and not really enjoying his game? I mean, I dunno - I still haven't seen enough if him yet, but by all accounts so far he's a different player to the Newcastle Andy Carroll
You've raised an interesting point. Maybe it's a confidence issue? At Newcastle, he gave defenders the run around most weeks, he was too powerful for them but he looks weak and hesitant for us. That's my biggest gripe with Carroll at the minute, he's a completely different player to what he was at Newcastle.

From his interviews and pics etc, he seems to be loving it at LFC...always joking and smiling. Seems to be a great lad but there's something not right with him when he's on the pitch. Hopefully he finds form asap, wonder if it's worth keeping him in for the Exeter game, chane to get a goal or two and obviously regain his confidence and swagger.

He looks happy. He's got Downing and Henderson there, who are from the same area. Shouldn't be a problem.

Downing's from Middlesbrough and Henderson's from Sunderland. Yes that should keep the homesick Geordie happy.

Think its more a question of getting to know the players around you, setteling at a new club, fitness and match sharpness.
The Andy Carroll who played for Newcastle will show his true colours, we just have to give him time.

He's constantly trying to tell the other players where he'd like them to aim the crosses, and we're not good enough to run onto the flicks he wins. These things will only get better.

Seem to be getting along just fine:

If these pictures are anything to go by, it seems that Carroll and Downing are mates.

i'm sure they are.

I would have said him and enrique were potentially better mates as they spent years playing together. However, i'm sure as a young lad moving away from your home city, you're goign to miss your family, your friends (non-football ones) etc. I can completely understand that i'm sure the club are making it easier to settle here, it still will take some time

We should have signed Nolan to be his "calming goat".

why you no score goals andy?

See, if you had photo-shopped Nolan's face onto that goat, I would've have applauded you.

This is just lazy and I'm slightly upset with you.

I do wish people wouldn't keep on complaining that we over-paid for Carroll.

We over-paid for Carroll because we were desperate to sell El Knobbo to Chelski for the once-in-a-lifetime price of £50 million and we couldn't do that unless we signed a quality replacement striker before the deadline.

Taken all round, I reckon it was a superb bit of business.
I respectfully disagree.

Carroll wasn't even fit from January onwards so the explanation that we needed a 'quality replacement' falls down. We easily could waited until the summer where we could have got better value for money on Carroll or someone else. He was a panic buy.

I do, however, think there's a potentially unstoppable player in Carroll, but I have plenty of concerns that we'll never see it.
Of course it was a superb bit of business!. 56 million for Torres and Babel? Brilliant!

If Suarez was 35 million and Carroll was 25 million, would people be happier? The total spend there is 60 million which is no different to 35 million for Carroll and 25 million for Suarez. Net spend is 4 million for LFC and we've got rid off a player that never was going to hit his potential and player that didn't want to be there.

It's all good!
Of course it was good business.

It could have been even better business.

Ponderous, shocking first touch, poor link up play, little awareness, and outmuscled time and time again. Apart from that, he was ace.

Needs benched.

He hasn't been good so far however Gerrard is capable of supporting him and will appreciate his knock downs so I'll judge him when he gets a good run of play alongside Stevie G.

In fairness, most players would look better playing alongside Gerrard. But we need players to look good no matter who they're playing with, especially if they're our record signing.

I'm worried about him, but I'm prepared to give him a bit more time before I write him off.

How much longer, Gerry?

i'm still waiting for carroll and suarez to play consistently together. Suarez playing just off carroll should be raking in the knock downs

How about we give him a full season. He has had a pre-season with the team, he is fit, he is surrounded by players that in theory should compliment him well, it is all set up for him to succeed. If he stays fit and has a shit season, I think we can officially be worried that we have indeed set fire to thirty-five million pounds sterling. But right now is too early to judge.
