Liverpool are letting England under-21 defender Andre Wisdom go to Steve McClaren’s Derby County on loan.
McClaren made an approach for highly-rated Wisdom - who can play at right back or centre half - despite his side’s big win at Watford.
Wisdom has been available to go out for games for a few weeks and Brendan Rodgers is happy for him to go to the Rams for action.
McClaren wanted to bring in a new defender from the day he arrived and the chance to snap up Wisdom for the rest of the year is a major boost for his squad.
Derby are eighth in the Championship, having won 18 points from 12 games.

Pretty much settled then, that Will Hughes kid will most likely be signing for us.

Looks like he could be playing in central defence if the move does go through. They have another loanee, Adam Smith from Tottenham playing at RB.

They signed Zak Whitbread on a three-month emergency loan from Leicester last month prior to McClaren's appointment. He might've picked up an injury as he was replaced after 37 mins in their last game.

This current emergency loan window that allow Football League clubs to take players on loan for 3 months closes on 4 Nov.

Oh, and we haven't been anywhere near proactive enough at getting our players out on loan and having them gain invaluable experience.

Perhaps some people think there is something negative about a player dropping down, as if it somehow devalues them, or their importance to the club. It's a naive and dated view.

Townsend
Cleverley
Walker
Wellbeck
Wilshere
Ramsey
Lukaku

Arsenal, Chelsea, United - they all do it. We need to get better at it. I'd be sending a lot more than young Wisdom out.

We wouldn't let him go unless they agreed to play him at CB.

I'm sure they will, as Binny pointed out, Derby have a very good right back in Smith. He'll more than likely play beside Richard Keogh who is a big no-nonsense type of CB, it should be a decent partnership.

[article=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/10393480/Liverpool-defender-Andre-Wisdom-a-target-for-Steve-McClaren-at-Derby-County.html]Steve McClaren wants to strengthen his Derby County squad with the signings of Andre Wisdom and George Thorne this week.

McClaren is close to signing Liverpool and England under-21 defender Wisdom, 20, on loan after talks with Brendan Rodgers over the last 24 hours.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Thorne is also on McClaren's radar after the 20-year-old's return from a serious knee injury and could be signed before this weekend's home game against Birmingham.

McClaren was due for a meeting with Derby chief executive Sam Rush on Monday morning to discuss the possible signings, while the appointment of a new technical director will also be high on the agenda.

Derby are drawing up a short-list of four or five for the post and Cardiff's former head of recruitment Iain Moody is expected to be interviewed this week.
Moody has been controversially suspended by Cardiff but is a leading candidate to take a similar post at Derby and could be poised to make a swift return to the game.

Derby are determined to revamp their recruitment structure after McClaren's arrival and expect to make an appointment by the start of next month.
McClaren said: "I am in charge of all football matters – players coming in, players going out, what will happen at the training ground.

"My remit was to come in and be in charge of football matters and build a football club and I am in the process of that. I cannot do it on my own and we need help.

"Myself and Sam Rush have sat down and talked about getting together a good recruitment department."[/article]

Let's hope Kelly is fit then as cover..
Cover for Glenjo? I hope, if Glenjo picks up a knock, that Kelly isn't fit as I'd love to see McLaughlin being given a chance and it seems Rodgers is reluctant to pick him unless there are no possible alternatives.

That's the end of him then. Good luck to him and his new club(s). We all know what happens to plays that we loan out.

Kelly's raring to go, apparently.
Kelly and Wisdom are centre backs who have both had turns as make-shift right backs and been found sadly lacking, no wonder we miss Glenjo so much when he's out injured. I'm not saying McLaughlin is ready for 1st team action but given how poor Wisdom & Kelly have been in that position McLaughlin deserves a chance to show what he can do if Glenjo gets injured again.

Didn't McLaughlin reject N.Ireland call up, stating that he want to focus on club football? I thought at that point in time that he was about to be given his break through to the 1st team. I

Yes. (Although it sounded as if he didn't fancy playing for Norn Iron at all.)

Northern Ireland have suffered a blow after Liverpool youngster Ryan McLaughlin told Michael O'Neill that he does not want to be considered for international duty at the moment.

O'Neill told the Sunday Life newspaper that McLaughlin had informed him that he wanted to concentrate on his club.

McLaughlin, 18, insisted to O'Neill that he is not considering switching allegiance to the Republic of Ireland.

The Belfast man has played for Northern Ireland at youths and Under-21 level.

McLaughlin had been named in the Northern Ireland Under-21 squad for Wednesday's friendly against Denmark and was also on standby for the World Cup qualifier against Russia.

“When a player sits down and tells me face-to-face that it isn't an eligibility issue, I have to believe him”

"Ryan has decided that he just doesn't want to make himself available to play for Northern Ireland," O'Neill added in his interview with the Sunday Life.

"We had notification from Liverpool that he wanted to stay and concentrate on his club career at this minute in time and he wouldn't be available for the Under-21 team or the senior squad."

O'Neill attempted to change McLaughlin's mind on the issue by holding face-to-face discussions with the defender but these proved to no avail.

"I met him face-to-face and also with Brendan (Rodgers) there. Stephen Robinson (Northern Ireland Under-21 coach) met him in the summer while he was at home in Belfast.

"(But) Ryan feels at this moment in time that coming away on international duty will be detrimental to his progress at Liverpool.

"I don't really understand that and I told Ryan that when I met him.

"Liverpool have encouraged him to come away with us. I've had conversations with Brendan (Rodgers) and Barry Hunter (coach) about it. They both want him to play for us and have told him that."

How on earth has Kelly been 'poor' at right back for us?
He did a great job there during Kenny's tenure.

Yup.

[article=http://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/article/derby-land-wisdom-in-loan-deal-1128288.aspx#8F7JOfhSEsgvEeU5.99]Derby County have this afternoon completed the loan signing of Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom on a season-long youth loan deal.

The England Under-21 international, who has made three appearances for the Reds’ first-team this season, will be in line to make his debut for Derby in this Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship encounter against Birmingham City at Pride Park Stadium.

Despite being widely regarded as a hot prospect at Anfield, Reds Manager Brendan Rodgers was eager for the player to continue his education with regular first-team football – and he has selected Steve McClaren’s side as the best place for his development.

The defender had been trailed by a host of Championship clubs before putting pen-to-paper on a temporary move with the Rams, and Head Coach McClaren admitted he was delighted to bolster his defensive options with the signing of the Liverpool youngster.

He said: “Andre is a very good and a promising player who we’re delighted to welcome to Derby County.

“Liverpool obviously think a lot of him but he’s at the stage of his development where he needs to play some first-team games, and we’re delighted they see Derby as the place to do that.

“We’ve had a few injuries in defence of late and Andre will bring extra qualities as well as more competition for places, which is always welcome.”

Leeds-born Wisdom is a graduate of the Liverpool Academy which has produced a number of top stars in recent years, including Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard.

The young defender, capable of playing at either centre-back or right-back was an ever-present fixture in the England Under-16 side that won the 2008 Victory Shield.

Wisdom was also a key member of the England team that won the Euro Under 17 Championships in the summer of 2010, scoring in the final as the Three Lions landed their first ever success at that level with a 2-1 win over Spain.

The defender went on to captain the England Under 19s before being handed an Under 21s debut against Israel in September 2011.

Whilst after impressing at Under 18 and Under 21 level for his club, Wisdom went on to break into the Reds’ first-team under Rodgers, more often than not in the right-back berth instead of his more familiar central defensive role.

The 20-year-old was handed his first opportunity in a Europa League 5-3 victory over Swiss side Young Boys in September, 2012 - and marked his debut with a headed goal.

His impressive performance in Europe led to further opportunities in the first-team in the following weeks, as he started in the 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion in the League Cup, before making his Premier League bow in the 5-2 win over Norwich City.

[article=http://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/article/wisdom-eager-to-kick-on-1137009.aspx#JSTfXTh07pimes3D.99]Defender Andre Wisdom is relishing the opportunity to prove himself in the Sky Bet Championship with the Rams, after making his League debut for the side in the 1-1 draw with Birmingham City.

The Rams took the lead through Jamie Ward’s 39th minute strike against the Blues, but were pegged back in the second half when substitute striker Lee Novak volleyed past goalkeeper Lee Grant to earn the visitors a point.

Wisdom, who earned the Man of the Match award on his maiden appearance, admits that he is eager to kick on after being handed the opportunity to gain first-team experience with the Rams.

He told dcfc.co.uk:“It was a good game, I thought myself and the lads played very well. We played some great football and got a deserved goal in the first half.

“But we just could not quite manage to get the second goal, and then we went on to concede in the second-half, but overall it was a good performance and we will take the point.

“The experience so far has been great, the lads have made me feel welcome and the banter is flying about.

“I have come to Derby to gain experience, get matches under my belt and keep my fitness up. It is also about me helping Derby push for promotion, because I can see that the players here have got great quality, and today’s performance did not quite highlight how well we have played.”

Meanwhile, after making his home debut for the Rams, 20-year-old Wisdom accepts that he may have to get used to the Championship, following 14 appearances for Liverpool in the top flight.

He added: “After playing today, I can see that the Championship is physically demanding, and you come up against different players and different styles.

"But the main thing that you want, no matter what level you are playing at, is to win. This side has got a great mentality, who want to work hard during the week and get the result on the weekend.

"Admittedly it is a big transition coming from Liverpool, moving down to Derby, but it is a great experience."[/article]

Much as we expected:

Liverpool hope Andre Wisdom’s loan move to Derby will act as a sweetener in their pursuit of Rams midfielder Will Hughes, writes Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People.

Defender Wisdom joined the Championship club on loan until the end of the season last week, and the Kop side are now preparing to take 18-year-old Hughes in the opposite direction.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle have also shown an interest in the highly-rated youngster, but Liverpool are now in pole position.

Derby bigwigs value Hughes at £15million and, if they sell him in January, they hope to get him back on loan for the rest of the campaign.
