Am I the only one who still loves Aquilani?

He clearly is able to create chances, and take some for himself too, I think he could be great this year, I am really routing for him!

I wanted him to replace Aquilani after watching and enjoying quite a lot of Roma since Riise went there, so I am a big fan of his.

But right now I don't know where or how he fits into our side, and that concerns me, as does his injury record. When I touted him I was under the impression that he would be out for the first 3-4 weeks and that seemed fine, but sadly it was a lot, lot longer than that, and even when he returned he couldn't persuade Benitez to make him central to his plans.

If Roy has the balls to play this then I think it could really work. If he doesn't then I can't see how Aquilani can fit into the side, thus I would rather him sold back to Italy with the money going towards someone who can.

Against my better judgement, I am still on the Aquilani bandwagon. I just hope he can stay free of injury for a decent portion of the season. My main concern is that he just doesn't haver the heart for this league, and the physical nature of the game here. I am however shelving these concerns and, rather blindly, hoping upon hope that his obvious talent shines through.

Likewise. It's why I think we can scrape back into the CL if we play it.

That is sexy, imagine Cambiasso at the back there, that would put the shits up a lot of teams!!!!

I guess we'll see over the next few months. I hope you're right Oncy.
I dont know what you mean by hope im right Gene. I only said i like him.
I dont know if he'll make it here or not. He needs fitness and games. I dont know if he'll be given that.
I still think he's brilliant. Ive watched him since he was a nipper at Roma and for Italy U19/U21 etc and he's got so much to his game. I'll be genuinely gutted if he doesnt make it here. He is one of my favourite players in the past 5 or 6 years and im so delighted we got him, but maybe he isnt right for this league, maybe he doesnt have the heart, or determination. I dunno. But being as Benitez was a fucking nutcase im giving Aquilani the benefit of the doubt which goes for all our creative players....yes even Babel.

We do not have much to go on considering his best displays were against pretty shit teams but I still have faith he can make it in the Premiership. Roy will get the best from him.

It's Danger Mouse.I'd go for Batfink meself. You'd never get past them wings of steel.

Sorry I thought you were sayig that you expect him to be a success. I've read back now and I can see you didn't say that.
I think he's class Doc you know that. I know that Anita and Vlad do too. I just can't be arsed defending him against the knobeds.
Come on, Oncy. You can do a better job than that at backing up your point of view.

I mean, Anita's a girl.

I think the defensive side of his game is the big problem. He doesn't fancy it at all. He's a nice footballer but not someone who's going to put himself about or grab us by the scruff of the neck in parts of games when we are struggling. The game over here seems to pass him by too easily but if he stays i think we will all be hoping for a big improvement.
Because you can't?
Ok Brendan. For the very last time i'll go through this with you. I dont expect it to land, because youre either taking the piss or too thick too see what good he does (or is) for the first team.
First off he made a total of NINE league starts. OK just nine, we won 6, drew 2 and lost just one of those. Some games he missed injured (a player will often get niggles after a long absence, but then im sure you know that even though you dismiss it) but more often than not he was a victim of Rafa's mistrust. Very much like Keane before him he would be dropped almost like clockwork after he performed well.

I'll quickly run through this for you and then i really wont be talking to you about him again, because youre a bit pathetic and a lot dull regarding Aquilani.

1.His first game was in the 2-0 Victory over spurs where he played off (AS A SECOND STRIKER) Kuyt and had a hand in both the goals GERRARD AND TORRES WERE INJURED - WIN
2.He was then dropped for the next game which we drew 0-0 WITH WOLVES
3.He was brought in for the next game vs Bolton in a MIDFIELD 2 (you know where he cant play) and we won 2-0 - WIN
4.Dropped again vs Everton 1-0 win
5.Injured vs Arsenal we lost 0-1
6.Back in vs Unirea we won 1-0 HE PLAYED IN A MIDFIELD 2 (you know...where he cant play)
7.Dropped to the bench for the next game a 0-0 With Manchester city
8.Missed the game against Blackburn (dunno if injured or not) 2-1 win
9.Not played in the wigan game we lost 0-1
10.Back in vs Portsmouth in a midfield 2 he scored 1 and assisted 2 in a 4-1 win - WIN
11.Dropped again vs Manchester United we lost 2-1
12.Injured vs Sunderland we won 3-0
13.Benched vs Benfica we lost 2-1
14.Missed the Birmingham game. 1-1 draw
15.Injured vs Benfica 4-1 win
16.Played in a 2 against Fulham we drew 0-0 - DRAW
17.Injured against west ham we won 3-0
18.Dropped against Atletico we lost 0-1
19.Brought back in against Burnley we won 4-0 he made 2 assists - WIN
20Kept his place against atletico and we won 2-1 he scored
21.Played against Chelsea we lost 2-0 - LOST
22.Played against Hull we drew 0-0 -DRAW

So to clarify he made 9 starts in the league and scored 1 goal and got 4 or 5 assists. He was man of the match against Burnley and Portsmouth (thats 2 of the 9 games he played) we only lost one game that he played in and won 6 of them.
He played in a midfield 2 and a midfield 3 and as a support striker. He has taken everything that has been thrown at him and never once complained or moaned or suggested he isn’t up for it or wants to go home. He has said that just wants to get fully fit (according to the Oz he is now) and play games. He has been a model professional and whenever hes played he has almost always positively impacted the game. He has done nothing at all to deserve the treatment he gets by yourself and a few others on here. You have dug your teeth in and it doesn’t matter what he actually does you will stick to your he is weak and gutless because you choose to believe Benitez about this because it suits you. Its cringeworthy watching you post about him.
Ryan had it right when we signed him, anything last year would be a bonus as he got used to the league and got fit, and we were only ever likely to see the best of him this year. Whether that will happen or not is up for debate, maybe you are right and he is lacking heart and he will be gone in 6 months, but your soooo fucking far from the mark in what you suggest he brings to the team its untrue. In a 2 a 3 or off the striker we almost always looked better with him in the team.
I know you wont give him a chance....doesnt matter. Looks like most of the sensible posters are anyway.

Did he play the Reading cup game at Anfield? I have some hazy nightmare of Championship players waltzing past him at will. It may be wrong.
I dunno mate, i didnt check the carling cup games.

If the lad gets some games, then he has a chance. I fear that he is too lightweight, and you get found out pretty quick in our league if that is the case. Especially in CM. I hope he is a roaring success but I dont think it will happen.

It was FA Cup. Our kids and twats got knocked out by Arse in the CC
Yeah i checked youre right he played and we lost 2-1 to Reading.
I think that is a genuine fear. The problem i see is that his best position is Gerrards and now Cole's meaning he's third. Which means of course he will get stuck into CM where we are short and i dont think he is a CM and if he doesnt score a brace a game hes done for with our fans.
I dunno, it is mostly a hope that i have that he will succeed rather than believe. He's good enough im sure of it but i dont know if Roy will give him the chances.

He showed enough quality in small cameos last season to argue that he is 'good' enough. It is the physical side where he will fail, unless he starts drinking some Guinness soon.
He's no smaller than Modric or Nani. I just want him to succeed. Im not blind to his faults and i know chances are he wont make it given his injury record and Italians records in England, but if IF we can get the Aquilani i know playing week in week out for us we have something special.

Nice touch, likes to pick a pass when nobody is anywhere near him, otherwise largely useless

This will be his last season at Anfield
I haven't had a chance to say this before, but you're wrong Brendan.

Definitely a quality player and needs a chance to prove himself.

Just a little question-mark over the language and wimp factor..

Oh just one more thing i forgot to add.
In Morses player of the season thread which polls all the liverpool fansites, he has (lets not forget in just NINE starts)
2 x First places
2 x Second places
2 x Third places.

SO most liverpool fans had him in the best three players in the team 6 of the 9 times we played.

Shite isnt he.
