Since so many here are saying we need to shore up our defense and to replace Carra and Skrytel, 4 million is a good buy even though he is 30 years old. At least he can be a back up if we can get some one better.

He'll be able to play at both CB and LB, so that's a good, experienced rotation / backup option for a couple of seasons as we allow time for the likes of Wisdom, Kelly, etc. to develop.

Of course, you need to take his pay into consideration, which is probably in the 90K and above range. Doubt he'd take a paycut but if he would, that would be great. Spurs will probably take him to replace Gallas though.

Yea wages are key, we don't wanna be stuck with a bargain signing we can't shift and have to pay to leave (again). I'm not his greatest fan but £4m is bargain territory, 90k however sets off my Joe Cole alarm.

I voted yes, good player good experience and good price for a man of that quality.

Granted not top of the line but... weve got limited funds...

My head says yes but my heart says we've given him so much shit over the years, it would be hard to have him here.

For £4m though, it has to be yes.

Is he any good these days though? Mancini has been playing Nastatatatasic ahead of him.
He's on about 90k aswell

He was good when he played regularly alongside Kompany but clearly was always an area they felt they could improve upon and I know some City fans who reckon he was underrated.

Is Lescott + Agger good enough though?

Not in a million years. They're too similar. there's no actual 'defender' in those two. They both need a Kompany, Carragher, Terry, Campbell type alongside them.

But for me, he's well worth 4M. It'd give competition to Agger, Carra's gone, Agger's always an injury doubt, he's far more reliable than Coates and those sorts, and you don't get many good English internationals for 4M quid these days.

I'm not sold on the idea of a 30 year old back up on 70-80k a week.
Thats the type of deal that got us into this mess in the first place.

Well 4mill & roughly 4.75 each year in wages plus his signing on fee and on prospect of selling on. We would still need an organiser in defence to take charge, but I'd still say yes. (I think).

I think decent centre backs can be found easily enough , younger and for not much more than that, sensible wages and closer to what we want Just need to dip into Dutch , German and Belgian leagues. Everyone else seems to manage it.

regards

you can't really go wrong with 4m, can you? he's decent, if he turns crap you can still sell him on at a good fee and it allows you to spend more on attackers.

He's worth 4M as a squad option, sure, however I doubt he's looking to leave City in order to sit on someone else's bench.

He'll go somewhere looking to play week in, week out.

if he wants to play every week, only the teams at the wrong end will bring him in but then they cannot afford his rumoured 90k a week pay. Either he lowers down his pay or be prepared to sit on the bench.

Well, if he wants to pick up a hefty pay packet he can simply stay at City and sit on their bench - he doesn't need to move in order to do that.

Perhaps Arsenal will take a look at him. They're in need of a CB and Wenger doesn't like to spend top dollar on his defenders.

If the news is to be believed that he wants to play in order to be picked for England, he has to leave City and take a pay cut.

We should be looking for players who are hungry. Not overpaid rejects.
Players who can contribute and aren't looking for another pay day. Basically players like Suarez. Sure he's one of a kind and its not gonna be easy to find someone like him again but that's the way to go imo.

I think Lescott can definately do a job for us and is relatively cheap at 4M. He'll come with experience and will provide good competition for a place but isn't Williams from Swansea being touted for a move?

We need a defender that can dominate in the air, can tackle and pass with a bit of a nasty streak in him. I would also rather give Kelly or Wisdom a chance to establish themselves at CB which is their natural position.
