The way the football world acts these days about racist allegations is a bit like an infant school project that went badly wrong. You've just got a bunch of people who don't think much, and don't know much, and don't pay much attention to current affairs, all running around suddenly feeling like they're really grown-up and responsible. So naturally they now despair at how thick they think everyone else is, and regard it as their duty to teach them how to think. It's because they don't really understand racism, whilst they claim to see it everywhere, that is dragging the cause backwards. We saw it with the Suarez affair: they decide what and who is racist, and that's the end of the discussion, or else you're a racist, too. And the media rubber-stamps it all. Goebbels would be so proud.

How sad (in view of its content) to have to say that I doubt I've ever agreed with another post on here as comprehensively as I do with this one.

Anyone else worried it was Sturridge that grassed

The press will find out who it was.

Race for sport had made a formal complaint

How can they when nobody there complained, nobody from their organisation witnessed it and nobody had contacted them to act on their behalf. FFS this country had gone mad. They may as well ban the word monkey is any sentence now as it may cause offence. We need a new name for "these" animals.

hahaha get in there race for sport loooooool. He's even made a Suarez style admission of being racist what more do they need, sack him!!!...

The England manager defended himself on Thursday night, saying: “You would have to go a long way to find somebody who is less racist than me."

That quote is so pathetic you almost have to feel sorry for the old duffer.

Almost.

I know, I bet he's totally clueless about how it's all gotten so big.

I bet he's rubbing his face so furiously there's a chance he'll start a fire.

Is there not something wrong about a thread that has as it's subject racism, having it's title altered to poke fun at someone's speech impediment?

Lot of fuss about nothing, the fact that its all so PC that he felt obliged to apologise twice by the sounds of it and some snake in the grass dobbed him in is the sad thing....

It will not doubt run and run in the witch hunt for whoever got it out to the press.

Looks to me that the joke fit the situation, keep feeding the player as its all in hand.

nonsense.

The content did fit the situation. Telling a joke that long and tired when you're trying to keep the attention of international players at half-time in an important qualifying game is typical damn fool Hodgson faffing about, but the idea that it was racist - especially when Townsend himself has said more than once that it wasn't offensive to him - is idiotic.

I fucking love that Piara Powar is, yet again, lecturing people on inappropriate choice of language. But it's ok when it's you Piara isn't it? Hypocritical cunt.

Our local paper quoted him at the time of the fuss about Suarez not shaking Evra's hand, so I wrote to them pointing out the hypocrisy involved. They didn't print my letter but they did at least pull Powar's comments from their website. I'm hoping this whole nonsense now may start some kind of backlash against him, Jason Roberts, Clarke Carlisle and the other bellends out there rattling around looking for a racism-based excuse to grab the spotlight again.

blown way out of proportion this all thing - first UEFA succumb to the nimby disease with what they said about the Kazakhs, and this is further evidence of politically correct culture being all pervasive and out of sync with common sense.

I wish that some day some brave person at the center of such made-up "scandal" would flatly refuse to apologize and instead demand an apology from the shite rag that published the allegation.

Roy has absolutely nothing to apologize for here; the S*n has to apologize not just for this story, but basically for every day of their sorry existence. Them pretending to hold some kind of high moral ground is preposterous.

As far as I'm concerned, the FA, the media, and the brainless populous who read that media had an opportunity to think intelligently about racism. They instead behaved like the thick cunts they are and rejoiced in the punishment handed down to Suarez.

So from that day forth, fuck them, they passed up the chance to deal with racism. Instead they can now deal with stuff like this which belittles the actual issue of racism and also tarnishes innocent people like Hodgson as a racist. What sympathy should I have? It's fucking hilarious. The more the better. Piarra Powar FTW!!!!

It's bizarre that a manager would waste so much time at half tine in a big match telling a convoluted joke rather than just telling the players to pass the ball down the line. What's he going to do next, recite a Ted Hughes poem to make the point that he wants a fox in the box? But I agree it's an absurd 'controversy'. The sad thing is that parasites like Piara Powar need these so-called incidents in order to justify their continuing presence in the game. It's crazy.

Apparently what happened is not all that straightforward. Allegedly Hodgson first just said "feed it to the monkey" and pointed at Townsend, and then when no one got the reference he explained the joke. You can sort of see how a group of young guys who had no idea what he was talking about might be... surprised at his choice of words.

Unintentional racism is shit.

I shouted after luke 'hey you, monkey! Come back here!' when he was about 3 only to look up & see a black fella across the road look at me with a shocked face. I immediately grabbed luke & referred to his face as monkey about fifteen times in a minute to make it clear why I'd shouted it & is was at him.

The initial statement in this case could easily have been misconstrued, but once Roy explained the meaning behind it nothing more should have been made of it. I bet he felt a right jebend.

I almost feel sorry him. Almost.
