This is it. He’s done NOTHING in four games. That Ukrainian lad showed glimpses. Gakpoo hasn’t.
Some flashes of brilliance. A control, a piece of skill, take on a defender. Whenever an attacker is being praised for "linking up" and "layoff", it means he has nothing else to show. The same as praising a midfielder for "keeping it simple".
Also, a Klopp attacker cannot just keep it simple. Normally he expects the attacker to take on responsibility, and create chances, and goals in crowded spaces.
Gakpo seems more Markovic than Mane.
Still 4 games. Going from the Dutch league to the Prem isn't an easy transition.
I agree, he hasn't been good at all but, the games he's played in haven't been easy either.
I think it'll start clicking soon.
It's fucking amazing ... Jones, Carvalho, even Ox. (after 4-5 years) get more support than players that have been here 5 mins (Nunez, Gakpo) and have been dropped into a non-functioning team. Pathetic moaning cunts.
I'm fine with moaning, I'm probably one of the worst at it, I'm just venting. But I haven't written anyone off after only playing a few games.
TBF Ox was fucking magic when he joined. He's just been ruined by injuries. He's got credit in the bank. Jones gets shit every time he comes on. Fabio at least gets shots on target and won us a game, and looked decent in parts.
Gakpo hasn't shown us a single thing.
I'm sure he'll turn it round, but when we've just spent what seems to be our entire budget on an area we didn't need to improve when we have such glaring holes in our team; I can get the very short patience
I completely agree with the bolded bit ... but that's not Gakpo's fault. Gakpo has played 172 mins + whatever he had today in a dysfunctional team. His ratings have been well below those for the NL (where he looked very good in the WC) or for PSV but there are clearly mitigating factors for that. I have no idea if he's going to work out or not but let's give the lad our support and at least give him a fair crack of the whip instead of the pathetic bleating we're seeing more and more of on this forum.

I don't need to have 'been at the match' (WTAF, fucking knobhead) to see that the lad has some good attributes, I watched all the NL matches at the WC, he was very good, and of course we can see from his highlight reel that he has skills (to say nothing of being both top scorer and top assists in the Eredivisie this season). I suggest you search them out.
I've no idea if eventually that'll translate into being a top player for us - I just know that the LFC Scouts know a helluva lot more than "look at me I was at the match but still know fuck all' types, so one would assume they believe he'll be a fit. I'd just like people to give him that chance before laying into him after literally just 250 mins or whatever it is.

That is a bit of a cop-out. Yes, I would assume they would know more than random posters on SCM. But that doesn't mean we cannot voice our opinion and concern. I am concerned he is not showing any evidence of being a world-class attacker in an LFC shirt. I am not expecting him to dominate games or score a hattrick. I am looking for a piece of skill, vision
If we are going for the LFC scouts know more than us argument, then we might as well shut down discussions on this forum. Coz, LFC scouts, coaches, manager definitely know more than us. So why even discuss signings, tactics, midfield.

Do agree though anyone judging him already is a bit premature but saying that you can see why people are getting a bit worried. He has been totally anonymous and his shooting has been worse than bad but as you said trying to come and shine in this team atm is expecting a bit much
I'll come back to the brigade having made their minds up after just 250 mins of football. The scouts don't always get it right but how many times have you read here, over the past few years, on how good they have been?
Yet now half this forum can't even give a 'proven' quality player, who the scouting dept (and one assumes that includes Klopp) must have researched in depth, more than a few minutes, and God forbid half a season or more. No way, 250 mins is more than enough time for forumites to form a conclusive assessment. Fickle Twitterati have nothing on this forum at times.
If
then check out his WC matches or Highlight Reel, whilst obviously not conclusive they'll be a lot more instructive than 250 mins in a dysfunctional Liverpool team.

There is a decent list of players who looked very impressive in the WC and Dutch leagues and couldn't transfer their performance to the premier league. Some of us are concerned that, based on initial evidence, he likes more likely to be on that list. If he turns around his performance, I have no problem admitting I was wrong. But saying we shouldn't be voicing our concerns is shutting down any discussion on this forum.
Yes, the scouting team and Klopp must have researched him in depth. Do you know who else they have researched in more depth? Jones (whom you critiqued in the previous page and not that you are wrong) and was just offered a new contract. I am betting the same team researched Ox and Keita in depth also.
