In fact, one of the greatest credits given to him upon his signing was his status as an "elite striker of the ball".
Jesus Christ, but I imagine even @tombrown can hit a ball better than this lad has done for the last four games.
What did I do to deserve that comparison? 🙂

For the record, I am even worse at football than I am at forum posting (if you can get your head around that), so probably not ...

For some reason your name popped in to my head as I was typing. You Bastard!

The lack of faith in here, despite blindingly obvious mitigating circumstances, is fucking pathetic to be honest. Reminds me of the “flabby melt” debate regarding Firmino years back.

I find this line of questioning as tiresome as the extreme views. Are we now a Baptist church congregation or something? Keeping the faith.

Some of us have obvious concerns about the signing and expressed them. Yes, there will be mentalists with extreme views. But you can't just equate the two factions - those with genuine concerns based on what they observe and those who throw the toys out of the pram.

Even in the post discussing Klopp, a couple of posters came and started posting along the lines of I can't believe you are debating whether Klopp is good enough. No, we are not. 98% of the posters have concerns about Klopp's tactics this season. He looks tired, is he taking on too much responsibility? That 98% will probably back Klopp even if he burns Anfield to the ground. There are 2% knee jerkers who started bringing up the issue of firing Klopp. You can't just put all of us in the same group.

Maybe I am pathetic, but I have genuine concerns about this signing. I know it is early days, but I don't see any signs of the extra attacking class. However, bad the team is functioning, often great attackers have moments where you jump out off the sofa. With Gakpo, I have barely moved from my reclining position. Add to that the concern about the way we do transfer business nowadays. If he improves and proves me wrong, I will be the happiest. I have been wrong here most of the time, and that really does not concern me.

By the way, some posters who have chastised us for having doubts about Gakpo have also been critical of Klopp's tactics against Brighton. Maybe they should listen to their own sermons and "keep the faith." For all his flaws, Klopp has earned our faith. Lot more credit in the bank with us for Klopp than Gakpo.

He's been here less than a month. Ideally, he wouldn't have started 4 games in 21 days. Also, he's coming in at a time when the team isn't functionally "properly". Of the 4 games, 1 (Wolves away) was in a cup game with a weakened line-up and 1 (Brighton) was when the whole team played sh*t. He's also played 3 out of the 4 games in a position that's not his best. We have actually kept 2 clean sheets in a row (last one seems like ages ago) too with him leading the line.

I think he's shouldering part of the frustration/increased expectation because of the management's decision to sign him ahead/instead of a midfielder (no fault of his) + how Diaz impressed straight away last Jan when he came in - which is a bit unfair/harsh.

So, I guess, in some way he does deserve credit for the part about us keeping "2 clean sheets in a row (last one seems like ages ago) with him leading the line".
