Objectively it’s not easy when your first Premier League start happens to be the worst game of Klopp’s entire LFC career.

Doesnt stop some on here from using that as the sole game to judge him on though..

He looked quite good against Wolves.

Two training sessions and was linking up nicely with those around him.
Okay, decent/good ish then.

I know I am being a bit harsh, but great attackers always provide a teaser of what they are about in the first few games. There was nothing about Gackpo which really stood out.

It is too early to rate him, but if I were to guess at this point, at best, he would be a good support act when the team around him is purring and not the leading man. This is fine except for two reasons. Why spend money on him now? And more importantly, Klopp expects his attackers to impose themselves on the game. Hopefully, he settles down and starts contributing.

Young, potential, and the price was right. But I'm not sure we have a plan for how to use him.

It's like when I go to the grocery store and see some great deals in the discount aisle and scoop them up. Then I get home and realize I have no clue what I'm actually going to make for dinner this week.

Brighton got Mitoma for less than 3M quid.

Meanwhile we got Cody for 35M.

Yet, Mitoma was 10 times the player on the pitch on Sat.

Just buy the entire Brighton scouting department.

You cant directly compare the two clubs like that. We don't know what Brighton's success rate is. How many of these punts do they take, and how many succeed?

I remember during Rafa's time here, a lot of folks were raving about Sevilla academy. But Sevilla academy was hoovering up quite a bit of cheap South American talent, and some always broke out as stars.

Brighton can take a lot of these punts because of where they are (no disrespect meant), and they can guarantee all of them a fair shot at displaying their wares on the premier league stage. There is some incredible scouting and data-driven decision-making, no doubt. But there is also safety in the numbers aspect.

We are not in a position to do that. That is not to say we shouldn't admire Brighton for what they did. But just as Dortmund discovered post-Klopp, the strategy which helped them propel up the table need not work to help them stay at the top.

They also had a 19yo Colwill and a 18yo Ferguson playing. Both were very good on the day.

Gakpo was ok. But when you pay 37m for a player you expected more. It didn't help that Klopp was bigging him up for his performances in training. We got thrashed in the next 2 games in which he was pretty meh in both.

I'm confident Gakpo will be a more than capable player for us. Will he go down in folklore? No, arguably not, however I'm still confident he'll have his moment

It's way too early to rush to any sort of lasting judgement on Gakpo. Early impressions suggest he isn't the quickest and looks heavy reliant on his right foot, but his output in Holland this year is off the chart, so there's plenty of room for optimistism.

I would like to see a bit more fire and hunger his performances, though. Dutch people always seem remarkably chilled and composed, so maybe it's that, but I'd like to see the same sort of fight and drive Diaz brings to the side. To date, his performances and effort haven't matched the Klopps generous words used to describe him.
