Post Match Wolves (H) - Sun Feb 16th 14:00

Szobo was shite, again. He's like a luxury signing, great when we're flying and a fucking passenger when the going gets tough.

He’s your go to guy to get some abuse out of the system when we have a poor game, isn’t he?

There's a few players I'm really expecting more from. Diaz, szob, Macca, Robbo, Trent, Jota, Nunez.
Of those today, Diaz lived up to the billing. The others were passengers, or even an actual detriment to us.

I think it was @SummerOnions who mentioned were missing someone driving us on in midfield. What we're missing is a captain in the centre of the park. None of the starting 3 are vocal enough to motivate.

We need a stronger personality in the middle.of the pitch

We should have won this comfortably, we did not due to a close offside, and a bad decision from our striker. Instead we managed to see out a tight game, conceding only from a great strike from outside the box, and giving up maybe one other big chance. It wasn't a great performance overall, but it was three points well earned, sometimes they'll be tense, lots of you are massive fannies.
I agree in some respects, this place does excel in massive fanny responses to our games, but we completely lost control of that game. Sloppy performances from front to back. That was a worrying display.

We're really not, not sure how many shit performances we have to produce for you to gloss over.
I'm not glossing over anything, I've offered plenty of criticism, including in the post you replied too. What I'm not doing though is getting hysterical everytime we don't win a game 3-0.

You do realise we are seven points clear, and joint top on form of supposedly the most competitive league in the world? I know we all have PTSD from seasons past, but you're all acting like we are playing like Spurs or United, it's ridiculous, steel yourselves.

Things to improve on? Absolutely, there always is, especially as our performances aren't quite as hot as they were two months ago, but fifty non ironic posts saying we are awful, fucking shit and what not, despite winning and seeing the game out exactly as I'd expect us to, it's fucking pathetic.

The game certainly became contested, but Wolves were never in control, as neither were we. I always look at big chances in games, and if Wolves had them I'd probably agree with the people saying we were fucking awful, but they didn't. It wasn't a great second half, and we need to improve on that, but thats a long shot away from saying we were fucking awful, and in the end we played the game out well and held on to the win. Games in the Premier league are rarely going to be a walk in the park, I can't believe we still don't all know this.

You give him shit no matter what though.
Has to be said too that Szobo has been fantastic in the last handful of games, his link up play and willingness to run from deep has been a real aspect of how we've played and he's now a real threat. I don't know if Slot has instructed him to get into goalscoring positions more, but there seems to have been a slight tweak to his game and it's paying dividends. I still think we can look a bit short of creativity at times, I know that's a big thing to say having just scored 4 goals, but I do think for how brilliant the midfield is, there's more to come from it in terms of direct threat. I think we saw that a bit more last night, particularly from Gravy and Szobo, we know what Macca is capable of defensively and offensively, but these two have it in their locker too at both ends of the pitch.

It seems crazy saying it but bring Hendo on at 70 mins and we would have coasted that

I really hope that behind the scenes we are mad and planning for a mini overhaul this summer cos even if we win the league we won't win it twice like this if others strengthen

I'm just wound up Mystic, worried, hope we don't fuck this up 👍🤞

The real worry is we look tired now, at the start of a heavy run of games, Quansah, Bradley and Endo all fought well when they came on though, we're gonna need them. I wouldnt put Trent near the lineup at the minute, his head has gone and he's even more defensively shite than ever.

After a fairly restful week or two

The football is just shit.

We lack intensity in our play, especially on the ball.....no urgency to go for the kill which makes it easier for the defence to get up top and pinch the ball back.

Mo again was fucking crap, scored his obligatory pen.......great.
Jota had moments but on the whole, very little urgency and easy to mark out the game.
Szobo on the ball doesn't add anything to our attacking play.
Diaz played well but again like Jota, only plays in moments.
Darwin was hopeless but by that stage we were backs to the wall and had zero intention to attack.
Midfield 2 look tired, both again very sloppy and barely had any control.

It's just shit.

We are carrying too many average performers. It’s worrying how the next few games will play out.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot, speaking to MOTD after today's win: "It was mentally difficult the second half because we thought we scored the third, then thought we got a penalty, both situations were correctly handed by the referee.

"They got better and better, we got worse and worse. We had to show a different mentality which we did and got it over the line.

"In a season like this we have played so many great games, but in a season you want to win something you have to win the difficult ones as well when you are not playing your best. We were so close on Wednesday, this time we did survive.

"If you want to achieve something it is not only about bringing the ball out from the back or Mo [Salah] scoring goals, it is also about defending."

On the title race: "If you look at the last few seasons it has mostly been a battle between two teams. As things stand now it mostly looks like between us and Arsenal. I believe they have a 15 game unbeaten run and I think at the start of that we were seven points clear of them and we still are now.

"So, it tells you how well they are doing but also how well we are doing."

I’m going to take some positives out of this game…

We saw a nervy game out despite looking dead on our feet second half
Endo proving his worth again to close games out - hopeful that Slot will use him more from now on (from 65-70 mins on)
Quansah gettign past initial nerves to make a game saving contribution late on - we need him to recover his form.
Jota picking up some much needed fitness to vastly improve our No.9 options

…a flat performance, three points and maybe the kick up the arse we need to get out the traps quickly the next games (before fatigue kicks in)…

The second half wasn't good enough, far from it, and Slot looked fuming walking off the pitch. That said, they did dig in and were smart enough to take the sting out of the game for periods.

It was a game that made me even more nervous about the upcoming run of games. Villa and City both improved in January, and it's showing, and Newcastle can do anyone. If we come out those games 5 or 6 points ahead of Arsenal then I'll be happy.

That fixture against Everton is going is to be another fucking lottery game as well. Everything goes out the window.

Both Forest and United are more than capable of taking points off Arsenal, so I'll be watching on wishing we were not reliant on it.

Aye, as much as we’ve got a tough run of fixtures over the next ten days, Arsenal are facing their own tough run…and haven’t the squad to cope…

Liverpool have won 30 of their 40 matches across all competitions this season, more than any other team in Europe's big five leagues. Only in 2019-20 (37) and 1982-83 (39) have they reached 30 victories in a season in fewer games.

Liverpool have scored two or more goals in 17 successive matches at Anfield in all competitions - their joint-longest run of scoring two or more at home since joining the Football League in 1893 (also 17 from February to November 2019).

This was the first time on record (since 2003-04) that Liverpool failed to attempt a shot in the second half of a Premier League game at Anfield. In fact, it was the first time in this period that the Reds went an entire half of football without attempting a shot in a home league match.

Cunha was impressive. Could he be the answer to our nr 9 issues?

62 mill release clause looks like great value.
Still got my concerns about his attitude but after listening to an interview with teammate and fellow Norwegian, Strand Larsen, it seems that most of it is just an insane will to win. Appaz a great guy off the field. There are no doubts about his ability.
