Me too. Who knows, he might well have been good enough to develop for us there, but for some reason we decided he should concentrate on trying to be an average right back instead.

It baffles me. He's been a top prospect at centre half all the way through, even captaining the England u21 team from there - he'd have easily found time on loan in that position.

Frustrating.

Thought he was excellent tonight.

Wouldnt mind seeing him improve and develop into a Ivanovictype player from a CB into a very good RB.
Being versatile is only a good thing for him.

I don't see a problem with him starting being played at RB.
A lot CB's started of playing as a fullback. Time is still on his side.
Same goes for Kelly, I don't see him playing at RB in few years (or a makeshift LB).

I wish Wisdom was a bit taller though.

Well he's not going to get taller but the attributes that he needs to work on as a future CB - heading and positional play - aren't really being helped by him bombing up and down the right flank. It's not doing him any harm, but he's never going to be a right back IMHO so it seems a bit skewed as a coaching strategy.

I don't think he'd be great in a back three. He's not really great at bringing the ball out of defence, which is something both Sakho and Can have been good at. Ilori might have been good in a back three; pity he died.

And exactly how many teams in the PL / Championship play that way ?

Not many, but the reason he's playing right back, like with many young defenders, is that he's not quite good enough to play centre back (yet), so it's a ploy to ease him into a defensive position, in a slightly less demanding role. Same with playing him in a back three, for the time being at least, it seems ideal.

Huh?
