Newcastle bid 10m for Spurs' Andros Townsend.
Spurs sent them back, asking for 14m. I like how Levy thinks. If the other side is stupid and shoving money in your face, you might as well bluff them for more.

Jerome Sinclair, who has refused to sign a new deal at #LFC, is close to a permanent move to Watford. #lfc (SkySports)

Hope we negotiate a sell-on percentage just in case he does wise up and fulfil his potential.

@cloggypop tell us all please.
The only links in the Dutch press are with Milan.

He's good when he's good but he's young, inconsistent and not really ready.

Usually plays on the right but can play up front or on the left. Most of his goals this season were in the first few matches but he's been a bit disappointing recently. I prefer Fischer.

Atletico Madrid have turned down a €30M offer from Tottenham for striker Jackson Martinez. [A Bola]

I'm surprised if Spurs bid that for a 29-year-old who hasn't done well this season, and equally surprised if they did and Atletico turned them down. Even though they've got a upcoming ban, they still have three or four strikers besides Martinez, and a couple out on loan too. One of those on-loan strikers (Borja Baston, 23 years old) has been doing well too (10 goals in 19 games for Eibar, as opposed to Martinez's 2 in 14). That offer would've meant Atletico recouped the fees they paid for Martinez in the summer.

It's less than Spurs paid for a similarly aged Soldado and one could argue Martinez is much more the likely success in the Premier League given his physique and playing style.

He'd be a solid signing for them and give them real strength in depth. Fuck.

On the other hand, it's exactly that failed deal with Soldado that makes me think might give them cold feet this time. They've got a very young team now and I think they'll probably continue to build that way rather than get someone in who will be good for around one contract and with much diminished market value a few years later.

I just looked at the Spurs squad again - take out Dembele (28) and Chadli (26), and they have no midfielders or strikers above 24 right now. That's quite some impressive discipline sticking with a plan to assemble and maintain a young team like that when there's probably pressure from fans to get more experience into the team.

Pochettino was building well at Southampton before Spurs signed him up. If they keep on the way they're going they'll be genuine title challengers soon.

More's the pity.

They're still a long way (psychologically and practically) from being title challengers for me JJ.

They're also highly dependent on Lloris and Kane too right now, plenty of building yet (presuming they retain players too). If they had anything like the injuries we have to contend with to key players they'd be mid-table at best.

Oh, I agree they're not there yet, Dan, but I'm not sure they're as far away from it as you feel they are. Hope you're right though!

They'll probably lose Lloris and/or Kane before that. I can also see Pochettino being on a few shortlists.
They'll get top 4 this season though.

If we can manage to get Xhaka, Sane, Matip and a proper striker.. we could be quite decent. A new GK would be excellent but I am starting to believe that Klopp really rates Mignolet :/
