Will Suarez leave? The 2014 version

We don't need to sell, and just like Southampton are demanding what Lallana is worth to them, we should be demanding what Suarez is worth to us. Fuck off with £80million, I'm getting tired of the fact that Madrid think they have free reign to the best players in the premier league, if we have to sell Suarez, and I really hope we dont, Barca/Madrid can cough up for him, next season is far far too important to fuck up.

But if Suarez has negotiated a release clause then whether you have to sell is a moot point if they meet.

Why did we allow another stupid release clause into the new contract. For us to challenge he has to stay.

LFC confident Suarez will stay at Anfield as Spanish giants hover

Liverpool FC remain hopeful Luis Suarez will stay put this summer – despite increasing speculation that Real Madrid and Barcelona will both make a move for the prolific striker.

There has been no approach from either of the Spanish giants so far and reports suggesting the Reds are resigned to losing the Uruguayan are wide of the mark.

Suarez reaffirmed his commitment to the club during talks with Brendan Rodgers following the end of last season and the manager is currently planning for the new campaign with the 27-year-old on board.

Anfield officials fully expect bids to be tabled this summer for the reigning Footballer of the Year, who plundered 31 Premier League goals last term.

Suarez's heroics against England at the World Cup only served to underline his status as one of the most gifted players on the planet.

However, neither Suarez nor his representatives have given Liverpool any indication that he wants to quit Anfield.
Liverpool believe they have done everything they possibly could to satisfy the prolific striker.

Last December his outstanding form was rewarded with a lucrative £200,000 per week contract which made him one of the Premier League's highest earners.

Suarez's burning desire for Champions League football will also be satisfied by remaining at Anfield after Rodgers' side ended the Reds' five-year absence from Europe's elite.

His new deal, which runs until 2018, does include a release clause but the exact terms of that remain confidential.

Some reports have suggested Real Madrid or Barcelona could land Suarez for around £65million but the ECHO understands they would need to offer more than that. Suarez was the subject of a summer-long transfer saga a year ago when Arsenal tried and failed to sign him.

The Gunners bid £40million plus £1 in the mistaken belief that they had triggered a clause in his contract. Liverpool believe Suarez is now worth at least double what Arsenal offered and there is no chance he will ever be sold to a domestic rival.

If there is a huge bid from Spain which meets the release clause and Suarez informs the club he wants out then the Reds will have to reluctantly do business but they hope it won't come to that.

There was constant speculation in Spain about Real Madrid's pursuit of Suarez last summer but no offer was ever forthcoming.

Liverpool have been in contact with Barcelona in recent weeks to register their interest in Chile striker Alexis Sanchez, who is currently on duty at the World Cup.

However, during those discussions the Catalan outfit haven't given any indication that they are plotting a swoop for Suarez.

Asked last month whether he feared Suarez's head could be turned by a bumper offer from Spain, Rodgers said: “I know Luis is very happy here.

“He has turned a corner in terms of how he's perceived in England. Of course in football you can't promise anything but I am confident Luis will be a big part of the future here. The Champions League was what we were all fighting for. It's a wonderful platform for all the players and that opportunity is there now.”

He's 27 years old. It probably is now or never for him.
I think he'll go. Also, we have a chance to get a record fee for him.

FSG do course will also be seeing this year as now or never to cash in on the player at his peak. He has maybe three world lass seasons left in him? Four if he's suarez

The Echo probably have it right that:

1) there is a clause
2) It's comfortably more than the reported 67m (more like 100m euro +)

If that's close to truth, 100m euro for a 27/28 year old (jan) who very much wants the move is reasonable. The ball would be very much in Real/Barca's court if they want him that much.

Where I'd want us to pay hardball is:

1) If release clause triggered, we play hardball over all cash up front. I hope that is in any clause.
2) Any part-ex players (and I'd welcome Sanchez, Varane, Alba, Benzema etc) must be valued appropriately.

Thinking about this is no sign of not valuing Suarez, more a dose of realism that if a clause is in the contract we have to make sure any deal is structured as best as possible.

Does anyone think Madrid/Barca would pay 100m euro + for Suarez?

I'd speculate it's the same or higher than the Ronaldo/Bale fees. LFC would have argued that this is an amount Madrid are clearly happy to pay, and that Suarez is better than both of them were, so a fair deal.

We've also got to be careful with these deals, because Suarez's fee covers a couple of world class players, but his wages do not.

I hope to fuck we keep him.

Surely any clause would only be related to us not qualifying for champions league.

One would hope that's the case. I think the little shit should recognizzze that if he didn't take a chunk out of Ivanovic he would've been available for the Southampton game we lost early in the season. We would have then won that game (obviously 😛) and won the league by a point....

One more season at least. He gives us a league title and he can go act the bollocks wherever he bloody well wants.

We were murdered in that game. Second best in every position....I'm not even sure we would have won it with Suarez

I just don't see how release clauses actually work. If he has a clause of £80m - what does that really mean? £1 now and £79.9999m in 100 years time? How do you value that and all the "add-ons" you seem to get. Then that's before you even get to the legal negotiations. "Well we said the £80m didn't include the player's marketing rights for the next 6 months" and all the stuff that you have to agree in the small print.

At the end of the day, I just don't think they hold water and that's why we could stand so firm last year as legally they're probably worthless.

But I think this will be about value - everyone has a price and all. If FSG & Brendan think the team can improve in the long run by cashing in now then that's the decision they'll make. They'll probably have a point that they'd sell at and that's it. If one of the Spanish two offer that then he's off. I just hope we don't do a Spurs with the cash.

His quotes of course wouldn't be influenced by him wanting his daughter and grandchildren to be near by.

I know where your coming from but FSG and Brendan certainly know that Suarez is absolutely vital to us and our future, that is obvious really, just look at last summer, i don't see why they would think any different a year on.

Release clauses aside i can't see them having a point where they would willfully sell, for example just accepting 90 mill and thinking fair enough, Champions League qualification is worth around 60 million next season, there is a good chance we wave goodbye to that 60 million along with sponsorship bonuses for being in it (and the like) without Suarez and are back to square one wasting all the good work that has been done up to this point, next season will be one of the biggest scraps ever for those CL places and we need to give ourselves the best chance of finishing in them, obviously we all know (don't we?) our chances are improved with Suarez in the team.

.

He can have Mascherano's wife and children instead.
We've already lost Mascherano because his wife wanted to live in Barcelona. Enough is enough!

What did he have "left to prove" before he even joined us? It's meaningless garbage.

Come on, as much as we don't want to hear it, it does make sense.

Dutch based players are always questioned about their ability to perform in one of the top three leagues. Suarez has done proved that he can. Comfortably.

We like to think of ourselves as a European powerhouse (and in the 'sleeping giant' sense, we are) but most don't and therefore Real and their equivalents are viewed as another step up. Prove that you can cut it playing with the best players around and win things.

Last season was amazing but we are going to find it very very hard to win things. The likes of Barca expect to be challenging regularly both domestically and in European competition.

That first point might apply to a fair number of originally Dutch-based players, the Kezmans or the Kuyts of this world, but I don't think it really did to Suarez TBH. Fair point about Real or Barca though. For now at any rate. 😎
