Dalglish, allowing the new owners to make a thorough search. Our financial situation has been transformed and previously uninterested candidates may be approachable.

I think Sammy Lee has to go as well. I can't think of one good thing he has done to hang on to that position. His experience at bolton also makes me wonder, if he really is cut out for this job.

Pre-match warm up routines will never be the same.

i've just checked emery's record as a manager, and i've got to say it's fantastic. serious overachievment wherever he's been, and only 38: a full 25 years younger than hodgson. i'm not sure if he speaks english - probably not given that he's spanish - but barring that i'd give him the job tomorrow.

Yup. Seems like a very good upcoming manager. He gets his team playing some cracking attacking football also.

Not too sure about Rijkaard. I think he achieved his success in Barcelona based on a strong team which worked in the background - Tiki Bergen..., Laporta, Ten Caate and he was getting access to one of the all time greatest pool of players to come out of the academy. He will not have that here. Also looks like he is most probably going to get sacked from Galatasaray.

So a Kenny-Pako combo then?
That would do for the interim. The players all had a huge amount of respect for Pako, he knows the club, he knows the expectations, and he knows most of the players. Him and Kenny would do well enough I'd say.
I don't know if Pako would be any good, but one thing that has always endeared him to me is that it was he who recommended Alonso to Rafa.

that's why we shouldn't be rushed into signing a long term manager right now. give the job to kenny to 'steady the ship' the exact same brief given to roy (who mixed up 'steady' with 'sink').

The scary thing is that Warnock is getting a good press these days. If that had happened last season we might well have ended up with him, given the apparent criteria, or lack of it, that we used.

Still, hopefully those days are behind us. Roy has to go. Kenny for now and someone to start the rebuilding process in the summer.

No point taking an anyone but Roy approach. It was a similar one that led to the current circumstance. Our next manager has to actually be good!

I have not seen Jonjo played, so I have no idea how good/bad is he, but he has already played 2 seasons of first team football at charlton.

Although it's still a risk to throw him in the starting line-up, there's no harm to name him among the subs.

If you're good enough, you're old enough.
That's a truth I'm not going to dispute.

But Jonjo hasn't played a single minute of Premier League footie so far. And as his Charlton appearances has been at League One level I think it's unrealistic to expect that he'd make a difference. It takes time to develop young players and apart from Rooney and a handful of others I can't recall many 18-year-olds ready to be given such responsibility as it would be to be placed in the Liverpool engine-room at this specific time. Imagine if he had a few poor games - posters on here wouldn't hesitate to tear him apart.

Poulsen for all his lack of class so far knows the game has walked through many a storm and should be ready to man up and show why he was even brought here in the first place. Same goes for Joe Cole, Maxi, Raul et all. We need those players to up their game instantly and fight for the shirt and the club.
I agree with you, therefore I said we should consider him on bench, but not on the starting line-up yet.

I don't see the point we sub Poulsen and replace him with Lucas (or Spearing).

Emery managerial record...

Coaching Career

Lorca and Almeria
As he was seriously injured in the knee while at Lorca in the 2004–05 season, Emery was offered the vacant manager spot by the club president, and helped the club achieve promotion to the second division for the first time in its history, achieved in his first season, while beating top level side Málaga CF in the Spanish Cup. In his second season, Lorca's first ever season in the second division, the club finished fifth with 69 points as a newly-promoted club, only five points off promotion to La Liga; it suffered relegation the following campaign, after its manager's departure.

Emery then moved to UD Almería for the 2006-2007 season, and again helped his side overachieve; after guiding Almeria to a first ever La Liga promotion in 2007, the Andalusians finished 8th in the following campaign in its first season ever in La Liga. This prompted a move to Valencia, as he succeeded Ronald Koeman.[1]

Valencia

2008-09 A Tough Season
In his first season with the Che team it was a season that would be hampered with financial struggles for Valencia and the players not being paid for a part of the season, this would eventually play some part in Valencia falling away and finishing 6th outside of the UEFA Champions League places. Emery had initially led Valencia to its best ever start in the history of the club, but poor form after Christmas would cost Valencia. In the UEFA Cup, Valencia would succumb to an away goals defeat to Dynamo Kiev in the Round of 32 and in the Copa del Rey they would also be knocked out on aways goals this time to Sevilla FC in the Quarter Finals.

2009-10 Champions League Return
In his second season Emery stabilised Valencia into a much stronger outfit, improving on all facets of the side. The financial problems still lingered, but the players would all be paid this season, unlike last season's turmoils. Valencia comfortably finished in 3rd position, with Emery accumlating Valencia's highest points tally since the 2003-2004 season when they last won the title. In the Europa League, they would be knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the Quarter Finals on away goals, Emery was sent off in this game for protesting what seemed to be a blatant penalty not called for Valencia in the last five minutes. In the Copa del Rey, Deportivo La Coruna would knock-out Valencia in the Round of 16.

2010-11 Post Villa and Silva
The time had come for Valencia to sell as their financial problems were not easing, both David Villa and David Silva were sold to FC Barcelona and Manchester City respectively. But, Emery has made a bright start to his new Valencia team without its two stars, sitting at the top of the La Liga table after 6 games, with 5 wins and a draw. And a bright start to the Champions League campaign, with a 4-0 away win to Turkish Champions Bursaspor.

emery (pity his first name isn't dick 😉 ) isn't going to leave the CL spot chasing valencia for liverpool and if he succeeds in that task he wont leave a CL league team for liverpool.

Why not?

At Valencia he's still operating within fairly limited financial means. They sold off Silva and Villa in the summer and the fact that they are doing well is testament to a good summer and good management - but it's still early doors and he'll know that it'll be hard to continue to be successful if the situation doesn't change.

Liverpool represents a very attractive proposition if NESV set things up right.

I hope you're right keni, would be a fantastic appointment.

I can't believe that we didn't pick up Mathieu on a free?!?!?! What a sensationally good left back. 6"3, pacey and a left peg that can hit a cross you only dream about. Perfect defender for the English game.

They've made some great signings and have put together a great team.

I would love Manuel Fernandes in our midfield. He's ace.

completely agree. he's doing a great job at valencia, but he must know the only way is down - he can't possibly actually win the title. also, i can only imagine he'd get a huge pay increase if he came here.

you suspect though, if rafa had just 'concentrated on coaching the team' he'd still be at liverpool.

You might, neil, but I suspect you're in a tiny minority. Rafa's off-the-field politicking was only one of the reasons, probably not even the most important one, why he was let go.

Even if he had, as reported, lost the support of the dressing room ?

Doubt it.

SANTIAGO, Chile, oct. 18 (UPI) - The Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini is one of the candidates to take on the Liverpool bench.

Chilean newspaper El Mercudio said that despite the former coach of Real Madrid has indicated that, at least until January, does not want to run, his name reappeared in the orbit of the "reds."

The popular club of England is immersed in a sporting crisis and is in the penultimate position of the Premier League with 6 points in eight games.

While the British press says there are two clear candidates to replace Hodgson: Pellegrini and the current coach of Turkey, the Dutch Gus Hiddink.
