New thread as I don't want to piss of Ross ...

Is Spain repeating? Can England shock everyone? Will Holland finally win again? Can this German team finally take the next step?

I think it will be Ze Germans.

I've no reason except for they played brilliantly at the last world cup with a young team.

i had some cautious optimism about england until i saw them play, id like germany to win as i think theyre doing it right

Yeah I fancy the germans, I think Spain will get done at the back, Holland (if they get through the group of death) will be there or thereabouts, and the usual teams, Portugal etc.

England just don't look technically good enough in comparison to the top sides, even less so than usual, particularly in attack and outwide. We might surprise a few people, but that capacity is always there on paper, we'll no doubt crash, burn, get pissed and miss some penalties, as per.

I know Mertesacker is in the German squad, if he plays Germany won't win the Euro's.

Spain are obviously the most talented squad but you have to wonder if they have the same motivation as they had 4 years ago.

There are very few good teams at this tournament and, similar to when Greece won it, an average team could prevail.

Poland are an average team but have home advantage so they are my selection as a dark horse.

For the lack of an obvious challenger to Spain I'll pick them as the most likely winners.

Spain will really miss Villa. If they let Llorente shoulder the burden of leading the line, they may win it again though.

FFS Wizzy.

There was probably a Euro 2008 thread you could have bumped.

Germany for me

It'll be a surprise if they win a knockout game mate.

I dunno - I just get the feeling that everything thinks they'll be shit, and that means, they could be most dangerous. A motivated Gerrard (it seems like it) can carry them ... It's more likely however that your scenario comes true.

Regardless of his form for Chelsea Torres is still a world class forward so the option of Llorente or Torres as the focal point of the Spanish attackwill be more than enough for Spain to win the tournament. My main concerns for Spain are; they will miss Puyol at the back and there is always the chance of complacency given their total domination of world football over the last 4 years.

I think France are the most reasonable price when you look at their talented squad. Good keeper, decent back 4, some highly rated defensive mids and loads of potential matchwinners in Benzema, Giroud, Ribery, Nasri, Martin, Ben Arfa etc with some flair in Valbuena and Gourcuff too. If they stuff England their price will drop sharp.

While I think Torres is still class, he needs a system that is specifically to him being the focal point to succeed.

I'd certainly pick llorente ahead of him but having Torres and Pedro as back up to llorente is none-too-shabby.

Germany without doubt, England will be a surprise package alright, probably going out to Germany or Holland in the Semi's.

"Without doubt"? Apart from Lahm which German defenders do you think are top quality Mystic?

Germany, France, Spain and Holland.

Think the Germans might be in for a win now.

England wont get past the groupstages.

I can't decide if I even *want* England to get past the group stages this time. I really really dislike Adrian Chiles.

Hummel's is good. Neuer is superb. Schweinsteiger and Khedira will offer good protection too.
Neuer is very good admittedly but Germany's achilles heal over the last 4 or 5 years has been their defence. They paired Mertesacker & Metzelder consistently over this period and they were both found wanting. I think Germany could struggle to get out of their group but even if they do I doubt Germany will win the competition if Mertsacker is a regular starter. Also, their forward line is overly reliant on Gomez who, despite his stats, has never overly impressed me.

Mate they're fucking terrible. Their squad is average, their midfield is awful and they've got Andy Carroll up front.

Oh and they're managed by a clown.

They'll do fuck all.

Greece are great for supporters. It gives everyone hope they can win a tournament no matter how shit and/or boring they are.

Yep. I also dont buy the logic that because England are so bad, weakest squad for ages, shit new manager etc and no-one NO-ONE fancies us that all of a sudden we will turn up and do well....

In all likelihood we will get turfed out in the group stages against our bogey teams... all 3 of em...

It is probably true that we have a squad say as good as the greeks had 8 years ago but there looks like no team unity ( another John Terry rebellion mid tournament perhaps) no settled system nor style of play and a cack manager who still believes that the "Hoof" will beat the likes of Spain...

I fancy one of the usual suspects, any of France, Spain, Krauts or Holland could do it but due to being played in there traditional Lebensraum i reckon Germany.
