Who will the Yanks hire to replace Rafa?

I'm not opposed to the idea of Rijkaard - the fact that he was a truly great player is an advantage, as it would make Stevie and certain others be more respectful straight away. But the idea of him being brought in to 'make us play football' worries me a bit. Does no one else remember what happened to Newcastle when they hired a black Dutchman (who was an even greater player) to bring them 'sexy football'?

Winning football is the priority, not a pretty passing game.

newcastle didn't have the players to play possession football, we showed at the end of last season we can (when full of confidence).

Its probably too soon for that but it wouldnt be a terrible idea.

Reading his autobiography you can tell hes a student of the game, and I think hes the best kind of scouser too, very quick witted not some scally idiot as some would have you think because of his thick accent.

He'd do very well if he could get the respect of the current side it would be hard to get the distance from his mates like Gerrard.
I'm not so sure he would if this is to be believed:

"There's plenty of whispers that Jamie Carragher isn't the most popular player in the dressing room, his constant berating of players causing some ill-feeling."

Possibly could be a load of nonsense but there's certainly something not right with team spirit.

David Moyes is the one we should be after
If he had managed any other club and done what he's done there he would easily be my first choice. I don't know if I can get over the hump of him being Everton though.
But more importantly IF the yanks were to sack Rafa they would surely view Moyes as too much of a pr risk to sign.
I'm deadly serious when I say Sven will be their first choice. I'm sure of it.
I may cry.

i like the idea of rijkaard very much but he may be a little lightweight for this job.
Lightweight?
He won 2 leagues and 1 CL with Barcelona
Co-managed the National team and now at Galatasaray where the pressure is very strong.
Thats heavy enough IMO.
No more of this anti-football please.

i'm making a more abstract observation, really. just a hunch. anyone think they know what i mean?

I can believe Carra would be getting his hair off at some of the others, given his pride in LFC and the lack of it displayed by some of his teammates in their performances on the pitch, but I'd bet a sizeable sum he's not the root cause of the problem. The club's just not a happy one at the moment, probably for a whole variety of reasons, and in such circs.people can turn on each other. In time it'll pass, and I hope Carra's still around when it does.

You were thinking that when Ten Cate left, the dressing room seemed to fall apart and Rijkaard lost control.

Btw, should we send Pellegrini an English teacher now? Real were crap tonight though, so perhaps he's not the one we need. He also looks very old.

What we don't need is another non/Pidgin-English speaking self-proclaimed technical wizard. We’ve had 2 now who have failed to realise in over 12 years between them that the Premiership is not all about that. Man U would be looking at Mourinho, O’Neill or Capello (despite what he's said) if they were looking for a Manger this summer. Our targets should be more or less the same; O'Neill would be my #1.

I would prefer old Harry to Pellegrini, fuckin serious. He would be my worst nightmare, 5 more years of the same shit.

I'd say there's no chance of Sven mate. I'm convinced it would be Purslow and Kenny Dalglish would be heavily involved in the selection process.

As I said earlier the Yanks got the appointments right with Purslow and Ayres, so I'm confident that they won't get drawn into a silly appointment like Sven. Given Hicks' track record I wouldn't be surprised of it was someone, young, talented and completely out of left field. Texas Rangers fans would be able to tell you the effect the appointment of Jon Daniels as GM. It was a brave move at the time, I think he was 27 when he was appointed and he's completely rebuilt and revamped the club. I'm hoping for something similar.

I've decided. I want (assuming there is zero chance of tempting Capello) rikjaard.
Fuck it let's get im.
Took a team that was 4th bottom of la liga and made Europe, following season won the league, then league and European cup double. All done without spending billions, investing in the youth of Messi, Iniesta, Valdes, Xavi etc.
Rikjaard built the dynasty and model that is still reaping the benefits today. Out with the 'sign every Dutch cunt' policy of the past in with the 'build from the youth team up' policy. That's what I want.

also if he loses he may spit at the opposite manager which would be very entertaining

If we can get Ten Caate, then Rijkaard would be a good option. If not, stay well clear..

What about Felix Magath? He's won the title with Wolfsburg and Bayern and lead Stuttgart from relegation fight to the Champions League. This year he's still in the title race with Schalke 04 again. Maybe he could get us Dzeko too?

A cold, clever manager. Good at tactics and getting his teams fit and organised; less so at man-management/inspiring them etc. Basically, he'd be Rafa mkII, only without all the trophies.

Capello and Mourinho are my firsct choices but will be hard to get.
Rijkard could do a good job at LFC. Certainly not worse than Rafa.

Hitzfeld brought our national team to the WC. Big achievement considering our poor start.
He signed a new contract until 2012.
