With Hendo out, who do you reckon steps up and leads by example tonight?

Virgil will be captain, but someone further up field will push hard and make sure we win.
I reckon it will be Mane.

Milner

We don't just have one leader in the team and I've never gotten the impression this team needs some particular leader or leadership style to get the best out of them.

This isn't a bunch of mopey fucks who good performances can be coaxed out of by a smart captain. This is a team that turns up ready to work hard and do whatever is necessary to win, regardless of who wears the armband.

Loosing hendo last time probably cost us the title. This is a big chance for someone to step up.

Naby starts tonight. Mimi on the bench.

HIs absence was felt last night, for sure. It's not just his workrate, energy and pressing, either.

We looked lethargic and almost complacent at times, and that's not a coincidence.

Yup. There's been a lot said about Hendo's captaincy at times, but he really is a proper vocal presence, balling out his teammates, in the ear of the ref, geeing everybody up. There's no doubt that VVD is that guy in defence, but we need Gini or Fabs to take on that mantle in midfield.

Is that not more to do with us playing an average of two games a week for 6 months ?

It was disappointing last night that nobody seemed to assume the captain's role. In Hendo's absence we seemed to have a plethora of capable "leaders" in Milner, Gini, VVD and maybe even Allison but all were strangely subdued last night (obv Milner wasn't available).

Having watched Holland quite a few times recently I was very interested to see Gini was the "main-man" on the pitch. VVD is captain but seems to lead more by example than by vocal inspiration................he limited his cajoling/encouragement to the defenders whereas Gini was up and down the pitch encouraging everyone and offering regular advice, inspiration and tactical/positional guidance. I was kinda expecting this yesterday but he was strangely subdued.

VVD was captain last night but rarely instructed/encouraged those in midfield/forward; maybe Jurgen needs to encourage Gini to perform a vice-captain role as he does for the Dutch.
