Does the memory of one of our games evoke nostalgia (good or bad) or tie you to a certain time or place?

I'll start with the bad. Two bad memories cloud the Newcastle 4-3 games for me. One was the night our whole house nearly burned down and the other was the night of my late grandmother's funeral. I had my own game the night our house had the fire. I was about 12 or 13 I think. I remember the fire brigades passing out the team bus and turning down my road. We joked on the bus that they were on the way to my house. Oops.
We all get collected back at our own ground and I remember standing there in the dark for ages on my own wondering why no one was collecting me. Finally someone arranged for me to be collected and I arrived home to see fire brigades everywhere. I remember checking the score on teletext at a neighbours house and seeing it was 4-3.

My daughter was born the day before we played Utd at home.
I remember having her in my arms rocking her to sleep while watching the mighty N'Gog and Torres score in a 2-0 win. Pepe Reina ran across the pitch to celebrate. Magic.

The pivotal moments of my football watching career are (off top of my head)

Alan McLoughlin for Rep Ireland vs the Nordies.
Ray Houghton vs Italy in 1994.
Michael Owen vs Arsenal 2001
Gerrard's slip vs Chelsea
Gerrard's belter against West Ham in the FA cup
Dudek's save from Shevchenko

I was nowhere particularly exciting for any of them, but I remember exactly where I was down to the part of the room and the chair I was in. So yeah, not exciting. Ha

Istanbul crowds everything else out for me - jumping up in front of Old Faithful as the Dude saved the last peno, running through the house hollering like a banshee, phoning my sister (who caught Red fever from her big brother) and yelling nothing but "YEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!" down the phone for the first thirty seconds or thereabouts. I was sorely tempted to run out into the street and howl the place down, but managed to stop myself. 😀

Champions league final night 2005, I had my Philosophy exam the next day. No revision done that night, thankfully I passed all my exams.

The season we nearly won the league, I remember Newcastle away. When Sturridge equalised for 2-2, I jumped up and screamed Yeeeeeeeessssssss!

I was in the corporate hospitality at Stamford Bridge for their game against Cardiff. The whole fucking room just stopped as the tumbleweed went by...

Someone has an email signature referencing a 3nil victory vs Spurs with Gonzalez, Kuyt and Riise goals in 2006.

I was on holiday in Jersey when that take took place.

King Kenny chipping the Brugge keeper at Wembley 78,.Still can vividly remember the rippling of the net, he start of a love affair with the king ! Missed the first 25 minutes as we were late to get in the ground, can feel the panic to this day

I remember being in Santa Susanna in Spain when we beat Roma on penalties in 1984. 2 days after my 14th Birthday. Made the holiday that little bit more memorable.

I'm not sure if I have anything that memorable individually, but I do seem to remember almost everything in relation to football. Eg I can remember every family holiday we ever went on and what year because of some connection to football. Staying in some nightmarishly horrible Cornwall campsite was 1996, cos I remember reading about us signing Patrik Berger sitting in the car while it was pissing down.

I remember it was Spain the year after cos Ronaldo was everywhere and being touted for Inter Milan.

Etc etc

I Reckon everyone remembers where they were for the arsenal 5-1

I distinctly remember Suarez and his first Norwich hatty, I was wasted in Amsterdam laughing my head off at the best thing I'd ever seen from a Liverpool player

I was doing music stuff in Athens when we beat olimpiakos in 2005. I wasn't that into footy at the time but being in the bar getting shouted at by all the Greek twats made me like it quite a lot. The whole bar went silent for gerrard's screamer apart from me jumping around telling everyone to fuck off.

Some game at a Copenhagen sports bar. Think maybe vs palace. We were going through a rough patch. We get a penalty and i tell everybody i will shave everything below deck if we miss. Gary Mcalister hits the keeper... Coventry perhaps... Had to take it all off.

I've a funny feeling you wanted to take it all off.

I vividly remember the Newcastle cracker. I was buzzing for hours and busted my toe jumping over the sofa. The worst... Watching the FA cup final vs the mancs at a mates house. 10 utd supporters vs me and one neutral. I knew there would be a couple of mancs but the numbers kept growing. That stupid goal.. stick a fucking hand out ya big spastic! I refuse to watch Football games with rival fans now..unless of course they are classy and dignified. Which is a rare trait in a utd fan.
