What's going to happen with A&A?

We know what's up with the SAS, but Alberto and Aspas are still pretty big question marks for me.

I don't think anyone really expected a huge amount from either, but we've gotten even less than that from them this far.

What are peoples expectations for the pair for the rest of the season ?

Will either break into the first XI ?

Aspas is a dud, I reckon. I think Alberto could potentially be a decent player.

No idea how Alberto will turn out, but willing to give our scouts the benefit of the doubt. Still weird that they paid so much money for a player without any obvious top quality traits. Thought we were supposed to get his type from the ressies.
Aspas is shite.

I have high hopes for Alberto, but wish he had been given the nod over Moses when Coutinho was out.

If he isn't getting game time (which is unlikely without any cup competitions until the FA cup starts up), he should probably be giving the run in the U21s team if he is eligible.

I think he'll turn out to be a great purchase for us. Once he settles in and develops more, it will be great when we have Coutinho, Suso and Alberto all in our ranks. We will have great options for creative players to have linking midfield to attack.

Iago could at least make a useful sub, he did look good in preseason. I would like to see Alberto getting some game time too, but I think the exit from the Carling Cup scuppered that.

Both will end up on the big, long list of hopeless failures we've bought over the years. The only question remaining is how high up the list each player is placed.

There's already a rumour Aspas is off on loan in January. I wouldn't put him in the same category as Voronin. He seems quite clever, his movement is intelligent and he could still complement the attacking line up that we have. That's based on what he did last season and his first couple of games for us, when I thought he looked fairly promising. Having said that, his last game was an absolute shocker, appallingly lazy and maybe even cowardly. So I don't think he's a dud but he has a hell of a lot to prove and I'd at least like to see him come back and try to show what he can really do.

Alberto is developing reasonably well, I think. We need players with a bit of wit about them and he has that. He's just going to take a while to get used to the pace and the physicality of the league.

I hoped Aspas would come in and help share the scoring burden but it looks like Suarez and Sturridge don't need his help. He would have been useful for the cup runs but since we aren't in Europe I cannot see him featuring much. I wonder will he start hinting at a move back to Spain and hopefully we'll recover most of our money for him. I'm not sure he is capable of making a big impact here. He had a very good preseason for us though. I'll give him a fresh start when he returns from injury but i'm not that excited about his return.

I have a good feeling about Alberto. I really want him to get minutes. I think we missed an opportunity to play him when Coutinho was injured. Moses picked up the majority of the minutes centrally which was odd. The position didn't suit Moses at all. Alberto might be in limbo for a while. Too good for the u-21's but I'm not sure if he warrants to start for us yet. I'm happy to give him time.

Tal being as positive as ever.

Aspas' workrate leaves alot to be desired (pre injury, obv).

The one quality he was praised about before joining us was his never say die attitude, the way he'd fight for the team. He hasn't really shown that in his brief appearances.
And even then, that quality doesn't really cut it for us, simply due to the fact that we're completely spoilt in having possibly the best CF in the world showing that attitude in every single game he plays. Aspas has no chance.

I think, secretly, you know I'm being realistic, especially about our Spanish second division, 26 year old plucked from obscurity and expected to become a worthy player in a top 4 team. As for Alberto, he doesn't have the physique ordinarily associated with success in the Premier League but does have time on his side to improve that and show he's up to the challenge.

I can't have been paying attention properly as I thought it was about Aspas that the term "fake number 9" was coined.

There's a thread to be had about all the new positions Rodgers has invented since he joined us.

That's what some folk said about Silva, and Coutinho. They said it about Zola too etc

If you're good, you're good and you'll succeed more often than not. If you're not, you won't.

I hope he does well ... I like what I've seen of his brief cameos so far this year.

So far neither of them have inflicted any damage upon the season or the club. The players on your list all managed to ruin the season and leave us in the shit before Christmas which is unforgivable and made them all cunts. Aspas has failed on a personal level, but at least he didn't prevent the rest of the team getting those 1-0 wins so I am grateful to him for that.

I wont write off Aspas yet. I dont think he did get proper chances to prove himself. He has enough quality to be a third back up in case one of the SAS gets injured. Off course it will be nowhere near SAS but still it will be good to have him as third fiddle striker at least for this season.

We haven't gotten "anything" from Aspas because SAS have been on fire. Which is a good problem to have. I don't think we need to write him off yet.

I was pissed off when Aspas got the no.9 shirt at our club, but people said the number wasn't important anymore.

I think they were bought to pad the squad out (expensively) and I don't think from what we've seen there's any realistic chance of either becoming a first team fixture any time soon. Aspas looks lightweight and inconsistent, and Alberto puts in a good (but not brilliant) shift for 10mins and some whoppers on here got the cocks out. Every other time he's featured he's done fuck all.

I hope they come good, but I've no doubts they wont.

Those three you mention are all a lot shorter than Alberto, with all the attendant trickery that players of that stature are often blessed with; see Maradona and Messi as examples. Our Luis, however, is almost 6 foot tall and a bit lightweight, a combination that hasn't proven to be such a hit in the PL, I don't think.

Let's see how he does - Unfortunately, I agree on Aspas and hope we can get 5 mill in Jan for him.

Borini, a and a = 24 m, that is one world class player ( I still have hope in allen!). Add in the point that Sinclair (or another young attacking player) could have done more than aspas and suso is probaly better than Alberto, makes these transactions harder to stomach. I suppose this underlines the point that few transfers are value for money and most importantly we are always wiser in hindsight!

Suso needed games though. Borini is still young. Sinclair is far too young for the first team
