It's unavoidable. All these coming home things.
I actually think they could do it. Croatia are a good side, but can't see them scoring too many. Then anything can happen in a one off final. Especially against a team potentially managed by Martinez.
No, silly. Martinez is now a tactical genius.
I even saw one actual journalist claim - with a straight face - that his sacking by Everton was entirely symptomatic of the old-school, old-fashioned short-termism culture in English football. I'd love to see what the Bitters think about that.
On a similar note, it's very amusing watching the deification of Gareth Southgate aswell. I had a feeling he'd be given the job back when Fat Sam was binned off, and knew he'd get it during that "trial period" but I wasn't alone in thinking he was a very unsurprising and uninspiring choice - it was so predictable.
But all that said, the FA appointed Woy and The Bisto Kid before him, so he could hardly do any worse, but nobody was enthused or confident, as this thread shows clearly:

And nor did the media or expert pundits fall over themselves about Southgate. But now he's a fucking genius and such a decent, geat guy he even has his own fawning hashtag #ThingsGarethSouthgateWouldDo, which naturally we did first in the thread linked above.
Although we did that first too, in the above thread, but far less complimentary:
"They've tried Johnny Foreigner before. That didn't work either.
They've tried disciplinarian, man-motivator, friend of the players, pragmatist, tactical expert and safe pair of hands. It's a cycle of failure.
Now they're trying FA-approved, cliche-spouting automaton again."
