We won on penalties

Sweden are the in form team coming into this. I am not sure why people are already dreaming of the semis. This is going to end in tears.

Jesus. Let it go, man. Fans are fans and can dream of what the fuck they like. It's the beauty of it all and yeah it will all end in tears at some stage but enjoy it while it lasts.

Henderson looked like he was suffering from concussion when he was walking up to take that pen.

Really feel sorry for them, my heart was racing watching, imagine the stress of that moment, knowing a miss will be like an albetros around your neck for the next 25 years, and you end up like Gareth.

If someone misses one again I hope it's not a Liverpool player.

These twats will get to the final. Thankfully every other team on the other side of the draw will beat them.

If England won the World Cup, it would be unbearable. They still don't shut up about 1966 as it is.

I hate Clive Tyldsley. His commentary in that last game was an embarrassment. Trying to justify Maguire's dive, creaming himself as Vardy pea-rolled one towards the keeper. Nob.

Bring back Barry Davies I say. Amazing documentary about him the other night on bbc.

Really? I only remember him really in his latter years, when he was repeatedly a snide cunt when commentating on us, particularly during Houllier's tenure.

Well, I think the point is they would shut up about 1966 if they won. Think of it that way..

But I want England to win, if only to piss people like you off more! England won't win, mind.

England isn't a very patriotic country (on the whole) and it's great to see times like this when it taps into it a bit.

I've watched far too many 'it's coming home' memes and vids..I think we might win it

I know we’re already in the semis against Croatia, but I came in here just to say this:

FUCK OFF YOU CHEATING COLOMBIAN BITCHES.

That is all.

Sorry, but since we found out what a dirty sanchez actually is, I find it hard to take your posts seriously ... the mental picture is too overpowering

I knew I wasn’t the only one.
Next time I see him I’ll see whether he has shit smeared on his fingers.

I fucking hope not. The country is fucking unbearable at the minute. The BBC and ITV coverage is so pompous and self-indulgent I half expect Gabby Logan and whoever else to disappear up their own arses.

It's unavoidable. All these coming home things.

I actually think they could do it. Croatia are a good side, but can't see them scoring too many. Then anything can happen in a one off final. Especially against a team potentially managed by Martinez.

I'd take that risk, the pain of losing a world cup final would be so much more than another semi-final. Waiting since 2005 and getting beat was sickening. Can you imagine, they've been waiting for 50 fucking god damn years, to finally at long last get there, then have their dreams crushed and see it all slip away. For that sort of reward, it's a risk you would accept every time.

No, silly. Martinez is now a tactical genius.

I even saw one actual journalist claim - with a straight face - that his sacking by Everton was entirely symptomatic of the old-school, old-fashioned short-termism culture in English football. I'd love to see what the Bitters think about that.

On a similar note, it's very amusing watching the deification of Gareth Southgate aswell. I had a feeling he'd be given the job back when Fat Sam was binned off, and knew he'd get it during that "trial period" but I wasn't alone in thinking he was a very unsurprising and uninspiring choice - it was so predictable.

But all that said, the FA appointed Woy and The Bisto Kid before him, so he could hardly do any worse, but nobody was enthused or confident, as this thread shows clearly:

http://www.sixcrazyminutes.com/inde...and-manager-hear-me-roar.106996/#post-1614880

And nor did the media or expert pundits fall over themselves about Southgate. But now he's a fucking genius and such a decent, geat guy he even has his own fawning hashtag #ThingsGarethSouthgateWouldDo, which naturally we did first in the thread linked above.

Although we did that first too, in the above thread, but far less complimentary:

"They've tried Johnny Foreigner before. That didn't work either.
They've tried disciplinarian, man-motivator, friend of the players, pragmatist, tactical expert and safe pair of hands. It's a cycle of failure.
Now they're trying FA-approved, cliche-spouting automaton again."

Southgate must be loving life. Whilst I have previously shown my appreciation of his approach (see threads pre WC) - i think you could look at it objectively and he is kinda riding a wave.

All the praise he is getting football wise is about 'positive approach', 'open and flair football' etc. But ultimately he has created a well drilled set piece team who aside from a Lingard belter and a Kane deflection, scored all goals from set pieces, crosses to headers or penalties. It is kind of like the output of Pulis but with the approach of say Conte.

I've been very disappointed with the effectiveness of open play, but the AMs of Alli, Lingard & Sterling are doing a very good job of winning free kicks and corners that we are scoring from.

I expect England to beat Croatia purely due to heavy legs from those in red and white, with either Belgium or France to steamroll them. The team hasn't faced any pressure of any substance the whole tournament and the defence has shown they have needless errors in them already. Fun ride so far though.

Indeed. Even my parish priest, who's from Glesga, is in the ABE camp (Anyone But England).
We have to remember that Scottish people are bonkers.

The media are largely to blame for a lot of the hatred, if they didn't rabbit on about it so much the rest of us wouldn't find it so painful to listen to.

I haven't seen any polls or anything data-based, but I'd be surprised if many Irish, Welsh or Scottish people really wanted England to win the World Cup.

Why would they?
