I have stuck up for Lovren many times, and I have felt when he teamed up with VVD for that run he (VVD) first arrived he seemed to have sorted those mistake out and left them behind, so much so that neither Matip nor Gomez could get into the starting line up.
Today what we saw was the old Dejan Lovren, the one we saw against Spur, the one that thinks that he can win every ball,the one that gives away far to many fouls in doing so, and because of this others were forced to try not only to cover their positions but to cover his.
What also doesn't help is that others around him made mistakes

Just like Alisson doesn't need to make saves to help us play better, Lovren doesn't need to make mistakes to make us play worse.
Can't argue with that, but he also needs some real game changes, and we have none

If you can't see how Lovren was poor for at least two of the goals, and not quick enough for the other, then I don't really know what to say.
No he wasn't the only one who made mistakes for the goals, but those other 3 players in the backline have some serious credit in the bank so I'm not going to be as harsh with the criticism. They could have done better, and have done much better consistently in the past.
The thing with Lovren is, he's been as weak and as rash and as stupid as he was today for about 5 years consistently. That's why people are sticking the boot in on him.
Did you see the bit where he kicked the ball at his own face and then toeyed it up in the air? Or the bit where he dived in rashly on the wing twice in about 10 seconds? The man is retarded. Deeney had his way with him all game and it unsettled the entire defence.

Yeah, Lovren has been world class his entire time here. We need to give him a break.

Do you really? People get an obsession on a player and make him a whipping boy regardless of what the player does during a game. It’s been the same way in any forum I’ve posted across different sports. The outcome of his performance is already determined before he steps on the field.
I like Matip and would have preferred him to start – but given everything I've seen in this game, the result would have been more or less the same. I think only Hendo could have made a real difference.
