vs Man City (A)

I'd be shocked if Johnson didn't start at right back. Not that he necessarily deserves to start, but I'd be surprised nonetheless.

Let's be honest - Gerrard's playing - that's a given.

Not sure this is the right game to blood Moreno - and if Manquillo plays - he'll be targeted for sure.

I think Johnson starts virtue of it being too soon for Moreno.

We know Sturridge, Lovern, Sterling & Henderson are almost certain to start.

That means it's a question of who plays alongside Henderson - not Lucas after last week', and if Can is carrying an injury then Allen must start.

Then it's a case of to start Coutinho or Lambert - which depends largely on what starting formation Rodgers wants to go with.

I don't think Markovic or Lallana are ready to start - so personally - Coutinho and we play 433 with Sterling & Coutinho offering width & help to the FB's.

Anyone for Lucas really.

Johnson for Manquillo and Moreno on the left could be the way to go.

Well Lucas isn't going to be starting (or playing at all) if this is true (*nods to Buddha*) :

Sportmediaset claim Napoli have agreed terms with Liverpool for Lucas Leiva on loan with option to buy.
According to the Italian sources, a deal has been struck with the Reds to reunite Lucas with his old Coach Rafa Benitez.
Napoli would pay €2m to have the Brazilian midfielder on loan for one season, plus an option to buy for a further €10m in July 2015.
It’s reported the Partenopei definitively moved in for Lucas after Marouane Fellaini suffered an injury, making the Manchester United man a less appetisingprospect.
He’ll replaced Blerim Dzemaili, as the Swiss international is widely expected to join Milan this summer for €3m.

I'm not sure why Johnson would be in ahead of Manquillo or Moreno considering how shite he was last week. Surely BR will have noted that and think that at least the young guns energy will be worth something in what will be a high-tempo match.

No one who loans lucas is going to end up buying him. We need to flog him fairly cheap before someone changes their mind.

They're not running forwards guys......this is clearly "backing off" training hence Skrtel and Sakho winning it by miles in the background.

I suppose it'll depend on what's happened in training.

Who knows - maybe Enrique's fit and ready to go - maybe he'll get a start.

I just think - City away, is not an ideal place to go with 2 young fullbacks with combined appearances of one competitive game, alongside a CB pairing that has played together once as well.

BR said in his pre-match interview that Enrique is out. As is Flanno, so we have 3 fit FBs.

I agree it's far from ideal but the option is Johnson, who I really like when he's playing well ..... but that hasn't been for some time now. So do you pick a player who is clearly a liability or gamble on :
a) Moreno, who has 18 months 1st team experience in La Liga (against Real, Barca et al.) or Johnson
And/Or
b) Manquillo, admittedly just 6 1st team games in La Liga before his serious injury but who made a very good 1st team debut last week (pace, energy, technically excellent and defensively sound - maybe he needs to work on being a unit with the CBs - doesn't that last bit sound like Johnson though) ?

Moreno is a near certain starter given BR's comments about him at the pre-match interview. If Johnson stays in the team I believe it'll be at RB replacing Manquillo, which would be a little tough on the youngster but it's possible BR will favour experience over youth for this one.

That seems very plausible.

I think Lucas will play, if only to track Silva and/or Nasri and deny them space in the 10 role.

for that role, there are better guys like Allen or even Pascoe

Right.

To be clear though; there is no one better in our squad at tracking runners and defending attacking mids. He has his faults Lucas, but he's superb at that role.

Lucas is very good at tracking them, but he's also very good at losing them and doing a stupid tackle in dangerous areas.

He's an enigma is our lucas

The pace and strength in that City midfield: you surely wouldn't advocate playing Lucas *alongside* Gerrard?

I think we'd get steamrollered.

we just need Allen to harass Yaya, once he gets frustrated, he seems to fade off during games...so Allen is the one we require and Can can come off the bench to provide fresh legs during last 20min or so

I think we might. Defend from deep and spring on the counter attack. We ripped them open last year in the first half doing that. Hendo, Couteen, and Raheem arriving late into the box after our defensive mids won it deep and released quickly. They couldn't cope with it.

Silva is their main man. Everything great they do goes through him.

Sometimes with all these injuries to our new buys it feels like we have signed fucking no one. Over £100M and yet to see a change in the team other than Lovren, feels a bit weird.

yeah but if he starts dropping deep to get the ball then they would do fuck all during the game. Because if yaya and fernandino are busy handling their own ballz, silva will drop off so much

to win this game, simple formula...just press them high in starting 10 minutes like we do at Anfield and score a goal and then start the wolf pressing and score another one...just happily come home after that

Right.

He did a poor job tracking runners vs Soton though

@LFCTransferNRS: It's not always right but according to bib theory, Moreno and Allen could come in for Manquillo and Lucas.

That would mean:

Ming, Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren ,Moreno ,Allen ,Gerrard ,Hendo ,Coutinho ,Sterling ,Sturridge
