vs Man City (A)

Ming, Gerrard, Sturridge, Sterling, Lovren and Henderson are probably our (or should I say Rodgers) untouchables at the moment. Some tough decisions to fill in the blanks on Monday.

Moreno or Johnson? Sakho or Skrtel? Allen or Can?

My guess is that Rodgers will largely stick to the old guard for this one and choose Skrtel, Johnson and Allen along with Coutinho and Manquillo. Be interesting if he mixes it up though... baptism of fire for the new guys.

All this left sided vs right sided cb does my head in. It's not like you're moving a keeper to the left wing or anything.
I think typically the best organising CBs play at LCB - Hyypia, Adams, Vidic, Carvalho. Lovren seems to prefer it there as well.

I'm not sure if there is some elaborate reason behind this.

My thinking always has been is that if you're the CB organising the back line, you'd want your partner to be on your right rather than to your left. If he's lagging behind you, and you want him to push out, it's not the best thing to have him on your blind side.

But maybe this is bullshit. Someone who's actually played as a defender might be able to confirm.

Having played as a CB all my life and being right footed, for me at least it doesnt matter which side I'm playing.
You adapt pretty quickly anyway which is why I cant see it being any problem for Lovren to play on both sides.
I prefer to play on the right as its more natural for a right sided player but in the end I've probably played nearly the same amount of games on the left.

I've never played any higher than 3.div over here so it MILES away from any sort of Level these lads are on anyway.
But with the quality Lovren has with both feet and his football intelligence I cant see it being any problem.
Would Rodgers have bought a CB that can only play on the left when he bought Sakho 12 months ago? Doubtful.

Terry is playing on both sides I think. Left now as Cahill is the RCB.

I'm pretty sure Terry has always played on the left.

I played CB, too, at a decent level, but nothing worth shouting about. I'm right footed, but always preferred the left side because if a striker ran down the channels I was usually quicker than them and my right foot was closer to the ball and thus it was easier to tackle them. But that was my own style of play. All the other CBs I played with who were right footed preferred to be on the right. I think it comes down to styles, but I don't think it makes too much of a difference.

Id go with Can instead of Lucas because I think we will need more physical presence in midfield and Henderson and Can will give us that with Gerrard sitting deeper. Is it possible for a fullback to be worse than Johnson right now? Cant be much to lose by giving Moreno a run, its not like City are going to kick the shite out of him, the tougher physical challenges are ahead of him

Mignolet, Manquilo, Skrtel, Lovren, Gerrard, Can, Henderson, Coutinho, Sterling, Sturridge

If Coutinho is stinking the place out again Id bring on Allen at half time and push Sterling further forward. I have a feeling Markovic will probably get 15 minutes at the end but I hope thats because we are comfortable as opposed to chasing the game. Id take a point at this stage

apologies for my ignorance but Gerrard and Coates there, what shirt are they wearing? Not the one by Garuda Indonesia?

They're wearing a bib over the training kit... I think they're the ones with some sort of monitoring equipment attached to them as well.

Yep - they have HR monitors in them and also GPS tracking so they can track athletic performance during training. Most players have them under their tops but some seem to wear them on top

From the BR pre-match interview, it sounds as if Moreno may start. Of course BR may just be bigging up some players to mislead City.

Yep, and Manquillo.

Lallana back in full training today. Bib theory acc to someone who watched the training.

Ming, Manquillo, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Hendo, Gerrard, Allen/Can, Coutinho, Studge, Sterling.
Can has been carrying a knock and isnt 100%.
