Transferring Twice in a Season?

Ok, I had asked this question in some thread, but it got ignored. But can anyone please clarify given that we're increasingly being linked with players who changed clubs only this summer - the likes of Elia and Marin.

So has the FIFA rule prohibiting a player changing clubs twice in 12 months become obsolete? If it hasn't, how did Robbie Keane go back to Spurs and how are we being linked to such players.

Is correct. You can't play for 3 clubs in the same season. Or rather, be on their books.

I see - that would explain Keane going back to Spurs. I guess the Elia rumours are the usual unresearched media bullshit then?

Keane could have went elsewhere as he signed for us before the season started...(I think)

Well since the player's agent has also been quoted it's not just media BS. However if the transfer rule (and I'm not sure on this either) is a player can not play for 3 clubs in any one season then being transfered in the Summer would rule Twente out of that particular equation.

for two clubs. As an exception to this rule, a player moving between two clubs

summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring) may be eligible to play in offi cial
matches for a third club during the relevant season, provided he has fully
complied with his contractual obligations towards his previous clubs. Equally,
the provisions relating to the registration periods (article 6) as well as to the
minimum length of a contract (article 18 paragraph 2) must be respected.

Thanks Rosco. That means Elia would be permitted to transfer and play for us this coming January - even though he won't.
