Liverpool are ready to meet Valencia star Dani Parejo's £20m release clause in the coming days as they look to bolster their squad for next season's Champions League. The club's president Amadeo Salvo has confirmed an offer has been made but said it was below the player's release fee.

Valencia newspaper Super Deporte claim Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is now ready to meet Parejo's asking price, though he will also need to convince the player to leave Spain and agree personal terms.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form this term after recording five assists and scoring four goals in 26 starting appearances, including one against Barcelona and another against his former side Real Madrid in their 2-2 draw last weekend.

The all-action midfielder has been made a priority signing by Liverpool after Rodgers has received glowing reports on the star after having his chief scout Barry Hunter watch him several times this season.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Alberto Moreno and have put in a bid for Adam Lallana. However, Liverpool hadn't yet been linked with player Brendan Rodgers used to manage—until now. Enter Michel Vorm and that pesky, troublesome backup goalkeeper position.

Liverpool have managed to replace Pepe Reina (somewhat successfully) with Simon Mignolet, but the Belgian number two needs competition in the position to ensure that complacency does not creep into his game. Brad Jones will always have the goodwill of Liverpool supporters but does not possess the necessary goalkeeping quality to provide a genuine alternative so a superior option is required. Ideally, the new goalkeeper will be more experienced than Mignolet and be able to offer advice as well as competition.

Michel Vorm's form may have dipped this season but he has been part of the Netherlands squad for World Cup 2010, Euro 2012, and is in Louis van Gaal's provisional squad for World Cup 2014. Brendan Rodgers brought the keeper to Swansea from FC Utrecht in 2011 for £1.5 million in what was hailed as a bargain deal and was strongly linked last year with doubts over Pepe Reina's future. And now, Vorm has been linked with a £5 million reunion with Rodgers—though it appears to surprise the man in question.

"It appeared last week in the British media," the 30 year-old Swansea keeper told De Telegraaf. "For me it was a surprise I must be honest. I personally haven't heard anything."

It looks likely that Liverpool will add another keeper to the squad and there are many options worse than Vorm. He possesses excellent distribution, holds 14 caps for his country, knows the Premier League with 89 appearances, and understands exactly how Rodgers works. His past two seasons haven't matched the quality of his debut campaign and he's made no more than 26 league appearances in each of his last two Premier League campaigns.

The challenge of playing for Liverpool and pushing for a first-team place may revitalise a keeper that has played in a struggling side. The mooted fee is less than it would have been last summer and his value is probably at its lowest point since the end of his first season. There's no doubt this would be an upgrade over Brad Jones ..........

[article=http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/liverpool-boss-rodgers-returns-david-brent-mode-4022015?utm_source=main_feed#.U3WwjXRwbVI]Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has slipped into 'Brent-speak' when discussing his summer market plans.

Rodgers has avoided lapsing into the 'ways of David Brent' for much of the season - until yesterday.

"You'll get some players who are specialists and who need to play in particular positions, but if we can get players in who are multi-functional, and can play in different roles and are multi-dimensional in their work, it sets us up and gives me more options as a coach.

"We've developed tactically over the last couple of years.

"Our style has been the same, but the structure of the team has changed a number of times in order to fit the needs of the games and to give problems to the opponent.

"In order to do that, you need players with the capacity to be tactically intelligent. It also allows you to keep your squad smaller and tighter."

Liverpool are plotting to trigger the £20.4m release clause in Valencia midfielder Dani Parejo’s contract this summer, according to reports from Superdeporte.

The Spanish playmaker has been on the Reds’ radar for some time after starring for Los Che this term.

Scouts from the Merseyside giants have frequently travelled to the Mestalla to assess the silky passer, and have been impressed by his displays.

With Champions League football back at Anfield next season, Brendan Rodgers is keen to bulk up his squad with one or two top class signings, and Parejo is seen as a player capable of adding quality to their ranks by the Northern Irishman.

Valencia are desperate to keep the 25-year-old, but an offer of just over £20m will activate a clause in his deal allowing him to walk away should he agree a contract with Liverpool.

The former Real Madrid man is also wanted by Atletico Madrid, but he could be tempted by a return to English football – where he enjoyed a brief spell on loan at QPR as a youngster.

Parejo could be an alternative to top target Adam Lallana, with Southampton holding out for £25m for their captain.

However with £60m plus revenue from player sales at his disposal, Rodgers may look to draft in both players to support Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho, Joe Allen and Steven Gerrard

How many teams have 2 keepers competing for top spot?

Mingolet, like every keeper, has his faults - but he's good enough to not worry about "competition".

I hope it's just the agent's talk and has no real substance. £20M for Parejo is preposterous. He is a neat and tidy midfielder with no particularly outstanding qualities. To me, that's not the kind of player you break the bank for.

For some reason I don't see any truth in those Parejo rumours. Just doesn't seem a credible target. I reckon it's bullshit.

When the words "Liverpool" and "activate release clause" are in the same sentence, you know it's bullshit.

Micah Richards admits he was ‘gutted’ not to receive a Premier League winners’ medal and has indicated that he is ready to quit Manchester City this summer.
The England defender is City’s longest-serving player and has made 244 appearances for the club.
However, Richards only played twice in the league all season, falling short of the minimum requirement of five to qualify for a medal when Manuel Pellegrini’s side clinched the title on Sunday.

The 24-year-old knows he is unlikely to win back his place from Pablo Zabaleta and is ready to turn down City’s offer of a new contract and a pay rise.
Speaking after the 2-0 win over West Ham clinched a second title in three years, he said: ‘I’m proud for the boys but gutted I didn’t qualify for an actual medal. It’s a great day for the club. To get the double is excellent and now build on it for next season.
'We’ll see what happens now. I’ll take the summer to think over things. I’ve been here 11 years, and I’ve enjoyed every minute.

Bit of bite: Zabaleta got his hands, and teeth, on a medal for winning the Premier League

'I don’t know what the future holds – we'll see. I just want to thank everyone here for what they’ve done for me so far. I’ll enjoy this then take it from there.
'I’m sure a lot of people hope I stay but when your games are limited sometimes you have to do what’s best for your career. I need to address that at the end of the season.’
City would want around £7million for Richards who has one year left on his current deal and is already being linked with Liverpool.
Pellegrini, meanwhile, has targeted Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna as a possible replacement.

At £7 Million and can play CB and RB, definitely worth a punt.

Brendan Rodgers is hoping to sort out deals for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno and Southampton playmaker Adam Lallana soon. Rodgers close to exciting double deal The Liverpool boss is busy working on his summer transfer targets and negotiations have been going on this week with agents and clubs behind the scenes to try and finalise at least a couple of deals before the World Cup begins next month. The Reds have made one initial bid, believed to be £20million, for Lallana but they may need to raise their offer up to at least £25million in order to land the Saints ace, who is keen on making the switch to Anfield. Sevilla defender Moreno, meanwhile, has emerged as another top target and is expected to cost in the region of £15million after an outstanding campaign for the Europa League winners in Spain. The 21-year-old Spaniard has been identified by Rodgers as the perfect man for the problematic left-back position that was filled in the second half of the season by Jon Flanagan, who is more of a natural right-back. The club has attempted to move quickly in the transfer market to try to seal deals before the summer showpiece in Brazil and, with both Lallana and Moreno set to turn out for England and Spain respectively, the hope is that they will already be Liverpool players by then. Rodgers is also expected to bring in up to four more new players over the close season with the futures of several first-team squad members, including Iago Aspas, Lucas Leiva, Luis Alberto and Daniel Agger, in doubt.

Surely we can persuade sagna to come to us. Come on Brendan. City already have a top RB

Pat Mustard told me that we are taking Robbie Keane for next season.
He's in the know.
He's Ian Ayre's milkman.

I'll be gutted if we pay £5m for moreno let alone £15m. He's shit.

Wonder whether it's worth having a sniff at Richards and Lescott as Lescott is free and Richards only has a year left so he'll be cheap? I know they'll want 100k a week because of that, but they'd be useful squad additions? Lescott can't be any worse than what we already have, and I'd have thought Richards could give Johnson a run for his money on Johnsons form this season. More english players too.
