Claims Kingsley Conan £30m, surely that wouldn't get his right foot?

Looks like Brendan Rodgers going to rescue Coutinho...

I have to say, major props to Rodgers for his signings at Leicester.
Tbf, Leicester we're doing quite OK in that department before him too.

I see Coutinho being used in rotation. Even in Couts prime, he was one of the first players to get taken off when things weren't going our way. Now he's older I cant see him being an ever-present in Leicester pressing system. I'm assuming they will have to manage him, maybe in the same way Spurs kind of managed Bale. I know Couts isn't that old at all but he's never really been that type of player that can sustain 90 mins for pure pressing and hustling.

Kinda doubt that Coutinho joins a team that isn't in the CL.

Coutinho is a great example to other players on why you should seriously consider staying at the club that made you and love you, instead of being lured by the pull of Barca / Real.

He could have stayed with us and become a club legend. I have no doubt Klopp would have made him even better. Instead he'll be a forgotten journey man, remembered by nobody really.

Mcmanaman and Owen could go in the same bracket - if they stayed at LFC they'd be looked at as all time greats.

Owen arguably (there was always something a bit "stainless steel" about him but he had the quality). McManaman I very much doubt - again a very good player at his best but he was far short of his best for at least a season before he actually left, and I don't think the fans would have put up with that had he stuck around.

If McManaman stayed he would have won nothing and I don't look at him as an all time great, because he never was.

Coutinho went on win exactly what we won when he was gone and more. So, I have no issue with him leaving either and it's a bad example.

But Owen...now that's someone I rarely reminisce about.

The problem is, every player top class player that left Liverpool in his prime more or less did well. So there are no lessons learned here.

Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Suarez, Meireles, Sterling etc. all went on to win a bunch of shit.
So I guess the lesson is, leave Liverpool if you want to win shit.

I can't really think of a top class Liverpool player in the last 20 years that left in his prime and didn't win shit.

I suppose the debate then is, Win Stuff vs Be a club legend.

Maybe its my type of personality, but I'd rather be seen as a hero and club legend for a smaller team instead of playing a smaller, unmemorable part of a big team winning trophies. I suspect not many would see it this way.

For example - do you think Real fans ever think of Owen at all? Yet if he stayed here we'd be hailing him as one of our great strikers in the club's history. If I were Owen I'd prefer the latter. But alas, I'm not.

Edit* - I suppose I'm talking in terms of Liverpool vs Real/Barca here. Its a bit different when you're playing for Charlton and Man United/Liverpool come calling.

No I agree with you. Of course I want them to stay and be legends but imo it's really important to win things as well. Especially if you're a good player.
For instance, Crouch still thinks his best time in football was when he played for Liverpool. That's because he got to play in finals and he also won the FA cup.

The most common name mentioned in these types of discussions is LeTissier and we will forever wonder "what if?" (he joined a top team).

I really don't think Sterling, Suarez, Macca, Mascherano, Alonso regret leaving Liverpool ever. In the same way Milner probably doesn't think about what the City fans think of him.

And let's be honest, you can stay here your whole career, win stuff, but when you leave or retire, some dipshit on SCM is going to call you a ghost or talk about how much time you spend in the treatment room.

It's a fair question, because he had enormous ability (even if he was/is a cnut who has a problem with LFC), but I suspect he might have turned out similarly to Coutinho. He was obviously happier being a big fish in a small pond than he would have been at a bigger club and he knew it, otherwise he'd have made the move. I don't like the guy but I quite admire the fact that he knew what would or wouldn't suit him and stood by that.

Am not sure you should put MacManaman in the same bag as Couthino, & Owen, Mac scored wining goals in 2 champions league finals if memory severes me well.

Was instrumental in the galacticos era. He was on the verge of being booted out by Perez but the players and fans respected him for what he did on the pitch.

Gents, you're missing my point. JohnnyRocket speculated that McManaman would have been looked at as an all-time great had he stayed at Liverpool. I respect that view but I can't agree with it, because IMO McManaman's attitude (not lack of ability) during his last season or so here would have turned the fans off if he'd stayed.

Le Tissier would have been shite at a bigger club. Southampton loved him and played everything to him Plus, he was shite over half the time

Yeah probably, but who really knows?
Maybe a Ferguson or Dalglish would have motivated him?

Not the most reliable of sources but this is a transfer rumour thread isn't it? 😛

[article]Liverpool are reviving long-term interest in Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross.

TMW says the Reds are weighing up a move for the German as a replacement for new PSG signing Gini Wijnaldum.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a fan of Gross and has long been following his career in England.

Gross, 30, is about to enter the final year of his Seagulls deal and is also attracting Serie A interest.

He scored three goals and produced eight assists in 34 Premier League games last season.

Brighton signed Gross from Germans Ingolstadt in the summer of 2017.

Can't see it, he was too inconsistent and too ball greedy. For me, he wanted to be the big name at a club, and he just wouldn't have been if he moved to united or us.

Plus, the fact he's some weird inbred anti-vax conspiracy theorist proves he's not all there.

Hes a good player but at 30 years of age we would want to be getting him very cheap to make it worth our while. He'd certainly be a more reliable squad option than Ox or Keita if we can move them on.
