We're interested in Porto's Fabio Vieira. Player of The Tournament in this month's U21 EUROs, contract with Porto ends 2022.

He should have no worries about joining us. We have an incredible track record with players winning major awards in youth football.

[article]Portugal's Fábio Vieira has been named UEFA European Under-21 Championship Player of the Tournament.

The Porto midfielder was selected by UEFA's team of technical observers and a member of that panel, Dušan Fitzel, explained their choice: "During the tournament, he was a key player for Portugal. A playmaker who creates a lot of chances. An excellent link between midfield and attack."

The deflected Fábio Vieira strike that took Portugal to the final
Fábio Vieira contested all six games during Portugal's run to the final; he scored the only goal of their opening game against Croatia as a substitute and started every match thereafter. It was his deflected effort that gave Portugal their late semi-final winner against Spain, though his side ultimately fell just short in the decider against Germany.

UEFA's team of technical observers made their decision by looking for players who displayed exceptional skills, made decisive contributions, showed a positive attitude and, crucially, dedicated their individual abilities to the collective efforts of their team.[/article]
Same journalist goes on to claim Porto are keen to tie him to a new contract.

Sounds like a classic agent story here to bump up the wages.

Yup. I think he's a less productive version of Lallana
Grealish will definitely be more productive than Lallana when he's in a City shirt. Don't get me wrong I loved Lallana but Grealishs dribbling ability is far superior to Lallana's famous 'turn and run' move. I would take Grealish over peak Lallana just for your ability to cause panic with his dribbling ability.
He's 25 lads. Let not pretend he's the second coming of Christ. He probably at his peak now
Didn't we sign Salah and VVD when they were age 25 or older? Didn't turn out too bad for them in the following years.

We did. In the case of both of them however they continued exactly as they did. Salah still scored loads and Virgil still organised a defence. Difference is, they did it in a better side.

Grealish is focus of absolutely everything villa does, so everything goes through him. At a larger club, he wouldn't be afforded such luxuries

Ross said less productive, not less skillful (but the latter is subjective).

Some of Lallana's G+A records in the league:

11/12 (Championship) 11 (G), 10 (A)
13/14 (PL - Saints) 9 (G), 8 (A)
16/17 (PL - LFC) 8 (G), 7 (A)

Some of Grealish's

18/19 (Championship) 6 (G), 6 (A)
19/20 (PL) 8 (G), 6 (A)
20/21 (PL) 6 (G), 12 (A)

So in reality, not an unfair comparison.

Couple of new names thrown into the mixer today:

Cristian Romero - Atalanta want €60m
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - Talking to a host of clubs including advanced talks with Leeds, but name dropped Klopp from no where. Probably meant Bielsa and got the name wrong, so it's an odd one.

New article from Pearce today in the Athletic. Largely a rehash of what he's said earlier. We hope to raise about 60 million in sales, and new signings will largely be dependent on that.

Grujic to Porto for about 15 million or so seems likely. Porto are waiting to finalise a deal to sell Sergio Oliveira to Fiorentina which should generate the funds to buy Grujic.

Rather depressing if true.

Leaves us hoping Elliott turns out to be as good as we think his potential is, while signing one or two gems at a decent price.

Pretty much the position we've been in for the last 25 years.

Who was the last English player we had signed from another EPL club who was as good as Mane/Firmino/Salah either in terms of influence or impact or output ! Grealish would not be cheap at all and Klopp would have to make considerable tweaks in the current system to accommodate Grealish.

We've spent £40m on a defender, we're going to sell before we buy now. Grealish is £80m easy. If we spend £80m, who do we sell to pay for it, and what about the other positions?
There are other players out there who in time could be as good as Jack Grealish.

Hakimi to Chelsea is a strange one when they already have James there

Yeah, was just about to comment. 60 mill £ on a right back when you Reece James is a bit weird, and clearly a sign of having to much money.
Hakimi is very good so lets hope he goes to PSG.

Salah never continued what he was doing at previous clubs goal scoring wise...he literally surprised everyone and went up levels goal scoring wise... No one saw that he would turn out to be a goal scoring machine that he his.

"Save us Elliott, you're our only hope!"

Chelsea signing Hakimi and Haaland will be a scary thought.
I hope this isn't true... meanwhile Kane and Grealish at City Is equally scary. Sancho to United.

RIP FFP

Whilst others are splashing cash we look like we're haggling with the shopkeepers at cash converters

It is kinda depressing but in a way understandable. FSG is investing in increasing our capacity. We have a lot of players which we don't use - Wilson, Grujic, Davies, Tsimikas, Karius or use sparingly - Origi, Shaqiri, Minamino. That is almost a starting eleven there. We are not Chelsea or City or United who can afford to carry a lot of unused players on the books.

But pre-pandemic, FSG did allow us to bring in our targets early and then sell players later in the summer. It looks like that is off the window.

Article uploaded in the Athletic sticky

I was just thinking that (because there won't be many clubs willing to pay what Dortmund will charge for him even if they're bankrolled by oil sheikhs). Any inside info?

Yeah, I think its a combination of the fee it would take this summer, and the fact that they managed to get CL footy. He seems settled there and Rose, the new manager, was at Red Bull Salzburg for 6 months when Haaland was signed.
I’m guessing the scouting trips he’s done to the big clubs is in regards with a move next summer.
The media over here seems to think he’ll stay one more year.

"Marcus Thuram would have to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach during this transfer window. The player is in discussion with Tottenham. It's a priority for the club. Sources close to the English club say the discussions have made progress over the last few days." Pretty vague.

I see our obligatory 'Italian who won't be suited to the Prem' link has been established early this summer. Apparently Lorenzo Pellegrini of Roma is the tipped to follow such luminaries as Dossena, Balotelli and Aquaman.

Would Dortmund sell Sancho and Haaland in one summer. I know their business model is to build talent and sell it for a fortune but either one will be going for near £100m so surely it makes sense to hold onto one of them until the market bounces back
