Transfer Rumours 21/22

Grealish is the English Coutinho. Not good enough to be a full-time playmaking no. 10 (no. 10s are kinda redundant now anyway) and not hard-working or defensively sound enough to be a full-time number 8. The only option left is to play him as a left-wing forward, but his goal return there is mediocre. For all his hype, he had a paltry 6 goals all season. 32 goals in 213 appearances for Villa. Is that the sort of return for a supposedly world-class attacking talent worth some 60-80 million? I'd understand it if he were an inexperienced 20 year old still developing. He's 26 - in the absolute prime of his career. He needs to be hitting 15-20 goals every year consistently to justify the hype he gets.

He's a good player, in the way Coutinho was a good player. Actually that's unfair on Coutinho because his end product really improved towards the end. Perhaps Grealish's will too once he joins a better team. But I'm struggling to see why he's rated SO highly.
Because goals is just one part of his game. How many goals did Zidane score year in year out.
Grealish is brave in terms of always wanting the ball even under pressure, carries it extremely well, draws fouls and can retain the ball when the team needs rest bite. He’s a player that will be amazing in a better team with better players.

I find it hard really difficult to understand why so many doubts over this guy ? - he has already proved he can play with better players by virtue of the fact that he has been the outstanding player in the last two friendlies we have had. Also totally disagree with the comments about him previously posted about him not-hard working no. 10. He is very hard working for a number 10 these days. Trust me - when the tournament begins if he is fouled like he was in the last two games then England will be playing against mainly 10-men opposition because they will be sent off.

If that waist coast has the courage to play him rather than Mount or Foden, then England have a very good chance of winning this tournament. As for his injury record - not surprised if he has to endure so many damn tackles and fouls, they were not the type that Mane has not been getting calls on. Those fouls he endures are direct and designed to stop him - clear as daylight. We were lucky not to face him against Vila at home, and he is part of the reason why we lost big in that away game this season. I would sell Shaq, Origi, Ox, and Keita - and just get him for 75M if we could (still not enough for him when you consider Pogba was bought for 90M+). Oh - just love watching him play. One of the reasons why Klopp I don't think would bring back Coutinho is because he was quite useless in his defensive/pressing duties - not his fault but lacks the physical size, I don't think the same could be said of Grealish as he does track back.

Didn't Aston Villas form drop off as soon as Grealish got injured?

I was also skeptical of the Grealish hype, but after I started watching a few Villa games I came on board that Grealish brings more to the table than just how many goals/assists\ he is or isn't creating. His ability to inject fear when he is on the ball is exactly what we need our 'dry' midfield.

Also, maybe its a bit unfortunate to compare LFC Coutinho who was surrounded by relatively better players (and manager) with Grealish. Grealish is more or less carrying Villa... if Coutinho could work, tackle and press as hard as Grealish then we might have sold Couts to Barcelona for 300m instead.

I just made a post before seeing yours, I wish I had seen it earlier as you said it better...

Also to add that I can actually see Klopp moulding Grealish into a better player. Klopp did this with Coutinho to a certain extent and improved his performances, BUT Klopp also twisted the team around Coutinho to the detriment of the overall team at times. Because of Grealishes defensive strengths, I don't think Klopp would have to make those same sacrifices. You could easily put Grealish in that midfield 3 and sit back relax with regard to his ability to defensively press and tackle.

When you hear £50m plus for a player, just forget about it.
We cam 3rd despite missing a defence for most of the season.
I think we need FW like Daka, supposedly available for £17m
If someone buys Div, for £12m we have his 2/3 cost covered.
Mohammed Kudus, I am guessing we can get him for £20m or less. The box-box MF. The sale of Ox should cover that.
Daichi Kamada, £25m will probably get him
The sale of Kieta would cover him.
Michael Olise looks like a real talent supposedly available for £8m. The sale of Shaq should cover his cost

Thanks for this list ill have to look at youtube for videos of these guys, apart from Daka I don't know any of these players. I hope Edwards and co are doing his usual football manager money ball thang.

I hope Grealish DOES flop at City/United/Chelsea but its highly unlikely. He more likely to be contending for POTY when he leaves Villa.

I fear you are correct POTY, and if he does well for England , then maybe Euro player of the year.

Yup. I think he's a less productive version of Lallana
This is a joke right ? Lallana ? The one who was never available much because too much running causes him to miss entire seasons ? The one who joined Brighton and literally gets injured coming on as a sub ?

Think about 25 year old Lallana.

A player not really with enough pace to play out wide , but equally not quite good enough to be a 10. Limited defensively. Spent the first half of his career between the top two divisions.

Lallana was better than Grealish at age 25.

The people that expected Lallana to ascend from age 25 onwards were overly optimistic. So I just don't see why anyone would expect any more from Grealish.

Its possible he gets better, but of all the outcomes that are possible it's the least likely one for me.

It's not like he has done anything noteworthy in a real game, like score 2 goals and make 3 assists against a top side...

Jonathan Ikone of all the players in the world we get this one , this is just sad even Hudson Odoi is better than him and he can't get in to the Chelsea side . The third place finish deceives the owners in to thinking no need to spend much .

He's shitty enough for us to afford him.

The way we defended that day, we could have turned up in a Villa kit, and scored a goal, and had a few assists.

We're interested in Porto's Fabio Vieira. Player of The Tournament in this month's U21 EUROs, contract with Porto ends 2022.

[article]Portugal's Fábio Vieira has been named UEFA European Under-21 Championship Player of the Tournament.

The Porto midfielder was selected by UEFA's team of technical observers and a member of that panel, Dušan Fitzel, explained their choice: "During the tournament, he was a key player for Portugal. A playmaker who creates a lot of chances. An excellent link between midfield and attack."

The deflected Fábio Vieira strike that took Portugal to the final
Fábio Vieira contested all six games during Portugal's run to the final; he scored the only goal of their opening game against Croatia as a substitute and started every match thereafter. It was his deflected effort that gave Portugal their late semi-final winner against Spain, though his side ultimately fell just short in the decider against Germany.

UEFA's team of technical observers made their decision by looking for players who displayed exceptional skills, made decisive contributions, showed a positive attitude and, crucially, dedicated their individual abilities to the collective efforts of their team.[/article]

Just going by video alone, he knows how to make that cutting pass. He is from a Portuguese club so that's not going to be cheap
