Transfer Rumours 21/22

I said earlier. Seems a bit of gamesmanship from us.

I still expect us to sign a midfielder or put a down-payment on Bellingham.

But the noise is probably more for Bayerns benefit that we don't need to buy anyone else, so put up or shut up regarding Mane.
Yes I see it this way too.

Fwiw, I think our interest in Gavi is genuine. If the relationship with Barca breaks down, I'm certain we will pounce. He'd be significantly cheaper than Bellingham too.

No doubt we are monitoring Gavi and told his agent this is how much he'd get with us.

But the simple truth of the matter is La Masia players rarely leave Barcelona. Especially if they have been promised first team football.

He'll have been told he's part of the next golden generation.

There is almost 0% chance we will get Gavi.

Also fwiw.. I hate that at 17, he still can't tie shoe laces. It would really irk me every time I saw him.

As things currently stand - we’ve filled our full quota of overseas players - obviously if Mane leaves, which is likely, we’ll be able to sign another OS player.

The only other OS player there has been any noise about moving on is Minamino.

On the Home Grown front - we only registered 7 in the second half of last season and one of those was those was Phillips.

I’d be surprised if we let Phillips & OX leave in the next window - that would leave us very short unless we’re registering Davies.

From what I can see only Adam Lewis is tge only one from the kids that has passed the threshold where he needs to be registered to play this season - I expect he’ll be released.

Neco & Rhys Williams, Curtis & Van den Berg have another season as a youth - everyone else of note has years before they need to be registered.

I reckon, if @Beamrider ‘s assumptions about money we have to spend are correct - then we’re at that point where we need to shift Neco, Phillips & Minamino for about £45m to buy a decent £50m MF option - but with Milner likely retiring after one more season & Ox out of contract - we’re very short on home grown players and we’ll have our eyes set on signing a HG player for MF - and someone older than Bellingham.

No idea who fits the bill and is sensibly priced.

I always just assumed the Gavi interest is agent talk aimed at strengthening their hand in contract negotiations with Barca.

Carvalho counts as homegrown.

Phillips? No idea what he'd cost.

That story about Phillips replacing Matip in the squad last week might have been nonsense but it was probably based around homegrown concerns. If that talk reappears it probably means Gomez wants out and we see Matip and Phillips as having somewhat similar attributes.

I think there is about zero chance of Phillips replacing Matip in the squad in all honesty.

yea Matip is too good to be replaced by a not very well known quantity, just a thought that maintaining homegrown numbers might be at the heart of any story

I will not be happy if Trent's not pinging in those first time early crosses to Darwin's head from out wide. I get annoyed as it is with him coming into midfield. Leaves Salah all on his own with multiple defenders on him.
I'd drives me nuts too. It leaves a massive space unutilised. Klopp has clearly encouraged him to drift into MF. Will we see him start there in some games and have the young lad Ramsey bombing on down the right instead?

After signings so far, anyone care to predict where the clubs will finish in the league?
This is my attempt

I don't think we'll sign a midfielder now. If you're really keen on Bellingham then that's probably good news because I imagine that's who the club is waiting for.

I joke about the german league but I actually genuinely don't know what to think about him anymore. I guess he'll be great but he's not exactly blown me away playing for England...

This is gonna sound totally absurd and unpopular.

But I wouldn’t mind giving Bale a 6-month contract, if he doesn’t mind being paid peanuts. He’d be excellent when we have to switch to a 4-3-2-1, or as a supersub. Harvey can learn loads from him too. Say whatever you want about him but he’s still world class.

1 % though.

He is world class, but the guy looks like he has mental health problems, I mean tell me he don't look like some homeless nut job.

We watch a lot of games of Porto; not only this season but other seasons as well,” the assistant boss told The Athletic.
“For example, Luis was so good against Juventus and Manchester city in the Champions League last season.
“We had crossed our information with Julian Ward. Our scouting department had great reports on him as well, so in the end it was an easy collective decision.”

Both Vitinha and Fabio Vieira – two players that have flourished since our No.23’s departure from the Estadio do Dragao – have indeed been heavily linked with a switch to Merseyside in recent months.

Now that's an interesting topic of conversation ...

Apparently Paul "Joycey" Joyce has said that the long term plan for Carvalho is to play midfield.

So you can forget this obsession with moving Trent to midfield. We simply don't need him there.

You can register youth players in the 25 to fill the quota.

Didn’t we have this conversation last year - you don’t need to register youth players in the EPL - it makes no difference - they can play anyway. - there are no restrictions on any players under the age of 21 - an unlimited amount can play.

It’s UEFA for European games, that’s different - they have slightly different rules around eligible youth players. An A-list similar to the EPL squad rules (8 locally trained) and a B-List of U21 players that unlike the EPL U21 squad has conditions.

Hence - Harvey wasn’t registered in the EPL squad, because he didn’t need to - but was Registered in CL squad because he didn’t meet their criteria to be registered as a youth player.

Conversely, Gordon wasn’t registered in the EPL squad - didn’t need to and could play - but wasn’t eligible for the CL youth list, wasn’t registered on either the A or B List and couldn’t play in European competition.

UEFA also makes a distinction between Association Trained & Club Trained that the EPL rules don’t.

He'd probably perform better on the Liv tour than the EPL
