Transfer Rumours 21/22

Didn’t we have this conversation last year - you don’t need to register youth players in the EPL - it makes no difference - they can play anyway. - there are no restrictions on any players under the age of 21 - an unlimited amount can play.

It’s UEFA for European games, that’s different - they have slightly different rules around eligible youth players. An A-list similar to the EPL squad rules (8 locally trained) and a B-List of U21 players that unlike the EPL U21 squad has conditions.

Hence - Harvey wasn’t registered in the EPL squad, because he didn’t need to - but was Registered in CL squad because he didn’t meet their criteria to be registered as a youth player.

Conversely, Gordon wasn’t registered in the EPL squad - didn’t need to and could play - but wasn’t eligible for the CL youth list, wasn’t registered on either the A or B List and couldn’t play in European competition.

UEFA also makes a distinction between Association Trained & Club Trained that the EPL rules don’t.
That's not what I'm saying.. I'm saying if you are a HG player light, you can register a U21 player as a HG player. Obviously it reduces your Over 21 squad doing this. To 24 etc.

I've got to admit it's been a number of years since I played footy manager so my knowledge is a bit rusty.

Probably no chance of this happening but I'd love to see us pull another Milner with Gundogan. His contract is up next Summer, Klopp has worked with him before and I'm sure he can play on the highest level for the next 2-3 years, serving also as another mentor in this midfield transition period.

And the best thing about it: Even if it didn't work out, it would be worth it for the Fume thread alone

That’s not how it works though - Footy Manager might be different.

For the EPL you can included unlimited players - our U21 List in January had over 50 players on it. It also doesn’t matter what nationality they are.

They are in addition to the Max 25 players over the age of 21.

Elliot & Jones were on the U21 list - not the main list.

To be on that list for next season you just have to be born after 1st Jan 2001 - no other restrictions.

The over 21 list only applies, next season, to those players born before 1st Jan 2001 - Max 25 players with a max of 17 of them overseas players.

You don’t “have” to name 8 home grown players - you can list more or less - you just can’t list more than 17 OS players.

You can have as many U21 OS players as you want, in addition to the 17 over 21.

So you can forget this obsession with moving Trent to midfield. We simply don't need him there.
Tell that to Klopp! I think we need more creativity in there and if we're not buying anyone and Trent is just going to drift into MF most games, he may as well just start there and have someone else as a proper attacking RB again.

Hopefully having a bit more of a target in Nunez means he'll get wide and cross it more again.

Or we have gotten a positive commitment from our top target for next summer.

You do realize that we 2 of our top 4 midfielders are not likely to give us 40+ games?
You do realize that the other 2 (Fabinho and Hendo) are injured more and more ...
So we're relying on those 4 being healthy - *and* getting a jump from Elliot, Jones and Ox?

We're playing with fire ... We have Klopp for a few more years, lets take advantage of it!

Yes, I know. I think we need a midfielder btw. But you also know how the club works with its preferred targets.
Klopp and Ward will happily wait a year for the right player.

I think we need to confirm some sales before there’s a chance of any more purchases.

Dont think Jones will leave this season. Can see him get more game time and hopefully step up.
A good pre season would be a great start.

According to Joyce, Minamino and his agent are in talks with both Lyon and Monaco. 14,5 mill fee is what we are asking.

I think people are more frustrated with jones than not being fans. The lad clearly has talent. Personally I hoped he would kick on this season, but he's clearly not impressing in training, hence the low minutes
I don’t agree (re not impressing in training) and thinks a little more context is useful. He had an unlucky run of injury early season, Keita then had probably his best run of games, and Fabs, Hendo and Thiago stayed mostly fit.

By the time Jones was free of injury and up to speed we were then facing the most incredible of run ins with every game a full on must win. At that point Klopp did his usual of picking his first eleven for most games, even if they were running on fumes.

In that sense and with the shift to 5 subs inviting a lot more in game rotation to keep the core players fit, id be expecting Jones to kick on early season begin to fulfil some potential.

Folk are very quick to criticise a 21 year old trying to navigate his natural early career ups and downs whilst part of a truly world class midfield.

This midfield isn't world class. There's 2 midfielders who are arguably world class (though i have my reservations). the rest are decent or unproven. And then there's keita whos not fit to wear the shirt

There arent many midfields out there better than ours. Even though its our weakest part of the team and in need of an upgrade, its pretty close to being World class. Fabinho is the best in the World in his position.

Our midfield is 2 very good players and then a very noticeable drop off. Henderson being the pick of the rest atm.

I'm not having this argument of "jones didn't get minutes because our midfield is world class and every game was important". He should be breaking bollocks to get in the team, and if he can't outperform naby keita in a training environment then thats a damning criticism. Elliott i'm giving mild leeway to, as he came back from a mad dislocation and is always a risk to aggravate. Plus, he's 2 years younger AND predominantly a winger rather than midfielder.

I have high hopes for jones, but if he fails it won't be down to ability, and thats the worry

How do you know he’s not breaking bollocks to get in the side? I’m not having this lazy trope that gets trotted around that Jones is the architect of his own downfall all the time.

He was injured the first half of the season, isn’t going to oust Fabinho or Thiago (both very much world class midfielders) in crunch games right now (who would?), so was competing with our experienced club captain and a rejuvenated Naby for minutes in the crunch run in of a mega season. Quite how that equates in your mind that he’s not putting it in, I can’t work out, beyond this image that’s been attached to him from about 18 that’s he a cocky twat.

I’ve got a little more patience with a young player trying to break into a side, in a crucial position, at the very top of the game. Let’s see if he kicks on from here because I agree at least that this is a crucial season for him.

I would imagine if Mane, Minamino, Origi (done already), Oxlade, Jones (loan), Neco, Big Nat all headed out the door, we would look at getting another midfielder in but I think it comes later in the window based on sales

Fabio Vieira to Arsenal - €40m - sauce Athletic
Dean Henderson to Forest - £20m - sauce Sky sports

Tonight's rumours almost done.
