Raphinha £60m bid launched appz by LFC - Daily Star
Even if this was true, I think the focus whatever Salah contract stuff is happening is our need for physical box to box midfielder. That should be our priority now, we were lucky this season with injuries, but I don't think they have it in them for next season.

Everton just got rid of a pedo cunt, probably can't risk another dodgy cunt.
Don't think Everton will be buying anyone until they've sold first. They've just got some chunky wages out of their squad but they'll have still lost a shit load of money last year and they were already in trouble with FFP. They need some sale profits before they can start splashing cash.

On a related note, I've read we aren't signing a midfielder this summer.

Only way I can see that happening is two reasons.

a) Mane isn't leaving so we are low on funds

b) We've been spooked by Madrids approach for Bellingham so are trying to force through a deal for next Summer, with a down payment.

Joyce in that Nunez article indicated that a midfielder is likely next summer.

Which is quite strange. The general expectation coming into this window was that we'd be targeting a midfielder. Pearce and Ornstein at the Athletic had repeatedly talked about our interest in Tchouameni.

Our midfield is rapidly ageing. We made do last year, but the lack of legs and the lack of physical dominance really showed up against the bigger teams. It doesn't help that Klopp always thins out the rotation towards the business end of the season - we were effectively rotating between 4 midfielders towards the end - Fabinho, Thiago, Henderson, Keita, with some spot minutes for Milner. Ox, Jones and Elliott were almost completely cut out of the rotation in the last 2-3 months.

If Klopp is going to continue to do that this year, well, I'm pretty concerned. For starters, we were lucky that both Thiago and Keita gave us 40 games last year - that probably won't happen again. Fabinho and Henderson are getting older as well, and Milner is ancient - we can't rely on him.

Will Klopp suddenly repose faith in one of Elliott or Jones? Like 40 games a season from one of them?

Jones' development has frankly stalled. Elliott could make the leap, and maybe that's the plan. But still, it's asking quite a lot of him.

I really do think we need a midfielder badly. Especially if we want to compete in those big ticket games that can swing a season.

I agree. It's more likely gamesmanship by us that we don't neeeeeeeeed to sell Mane.

Agreeing on a fee now for him to move next summer would still be great business
It also means we will nothing next season, we have a bunch of cripples for central midfield, Thiago, Henderson, Miller, Fab, Naby are the main guys, I ain't counting the attacking lot as being able to provide necessary shielding or stability.
If we don't sign someone with athletic ability we won't win anything and maybe fighting for 4th or 3rd. Sorry but they looked finished by the end, and it will be Klopps fault.

Not like you to be pessimistic. You are like the Angry Hal.

We will play with 2 “normal” midfielders next season.

Nunez will be the number 9. The supporting cast will be Diaz and Salah out wide with Elliott/Carvalho that link between midfield and attack.

We’ll see Trent play more midfield playmaker rather than getting right out wide when we have the ball.

We’re keep being linked with CMs even after Tchouameni was gone - I think Klopp agrees with you and we’ll sign someone this summer.

Wolves transfer news: Matheus Nunes open to Molineux move

Wolves’ luck could be in over Matheus Nunes, with the player said to be open to a move to Molineux.
The midfielder is a target for Wanderers this summer, along with his Sporting CP teammate Joao Palhinha.

Palhinha is the name that has been in the gossip columns the most, And it’s thought Lage really wants him as a part of his squad for next season.
But the manager is also a big admirer of Nunes.
Apparently, he has insisted that he is signed this summer.
And Nunes is open to making the move according to Correio da Manha. He supposedly sees Wolves as the ideal club in which to compete in the Premier League.
The report suggests that Palhinha is ‘very close’ to moving to Molineux. And that Nunes is ‘likely’ to move also.
It is the first we have heard about Nunes’ own stance, and it is encouraging that he is wanting to come.
Encouraging Matheus Nunes update as report claims he’s open to Wolves move

This is good news for Wolves, and hopefully will mean that Nunes will soon be pictured holding up an old gold shirt.
The reports suggests Nunes, 23, could potentially cost at least £34 million.
That’s a lot of money. But we are talking about a player with very big potential, and someone Pep Guardiola called one of the best players in the world.

Ideally, Wolves will get him and Palhinha both signed as soon as possible.
It would be great if Ruben Neves stayed, but one gets the feeling that if Palhinha and Nunes both came in, then Fosun would be looking to cash in on the maestro to balance the books.

I will not be happy if Trent's not pinging in those first time early crosses to Darwin's head from out wide. I get annoyed as it is with him coming into midfield. Leaves Salah all on his own with multiple defenders on him.

Look all our central minds are a bunch of cripples, Klopp fucks them to the ground in every game and turns to recycling merchants, by the time we get to a final they are usually fucked. We need an extra body, we never replaced Gini, and we will let Ox go this season. So these rumours of Jude next season means fuck all. That midfield is a problem that we have not addressed in like 6 years. Even when Thiago joined he had a cripples record so the club knew what they were getting. We need someone at least this transfer window with a bit of speed and athleticism.

Yeah like you I see Carvalho as part of our midfield evolution, where he played all of his games for Fulham and clearly not in attack where we are more than well stocked. I don't see his age, build, stature or inexperience as a major obstacle, see Coutinho for effectiveness whilst being slight.

So Fabs (who isn't old at all for a DM and likely has another 4-5 years left in our 1st team), Thiago and Hendo the mainstays, with Keita, Carvalho, Jones and Elliott the backups but mainly for Thiago and Hendo.

On paper 8 players for 3 slots (inc. Milner as the occasional defensive sub for Fabs or Hendo) is obviously more than enough. There is clearly though a debate to be had about the overall quality. We probably need one more high quality CM not AM. Phillips would be excellent and suit our game perfectly.

Bellingham next year to complete the transition would be nice (although is Nunes a much cheaper but just as good option)?

Joyce is pretty reliable. If he says a midfielder is likely next summer, that's probably what's going to happen.

I think what has happened is a sudden re-orientation of our transfer plans. The main target was probably Tchouameni, but he decided to move to Real. Maybe we would have tested Dortmund's resolve with a bid for Bellingham this summer, but then this Mane declaration came unexpectedly, and we decided that replacing him with a prime young attacking player was more of a priority.

I think we knew about the Mane transfer already. But if we wait until next year with getting a midfielder then its because there isnt one available this summer that we want.
We’ve shown several times that we’ll wait a year for the right player.

It could also be a piece in regards to protect the value of the players we want to sell. I e Ox

I said earlier. Seems a bit of gamesmanship from us.

I still expect us to sign a midfielder or put a down-payment on Bellingham.

But the noise is probably more for Bayerns benefit that we don't need to buy anyone else, so put up or shut up regarding Mane.

I don't think the Mane declaration was unexpected at all. In fact there are articles / posts out there saying he made it known to LFC a long time ago, hence why we've seen absolutely nothing regarding negotiating a new contract from either him or the club.

Pretty sure we have had this Summer's transfer strategy / plans in place for a long time.

This is probably right. The strongest links have been to Tchouameni, Bellingham and Gavi.

So it seems that we're targeting absolute top end young talent - basically a player who can have a transformative effect on our midfield and become one of its mainstays for the next 5-7 years.

It does seem that we won't simply bolster midfield depth for the sake of it with some of the decent players who are available - says Tielemans or Soler or Bissouma. We want that premier talent. I think it's the right strategy, but it might hurt us a bit in the short term. With Klopp's extension however, this probably matters less.
