I'm all for giving them chances, but I think the burden of not winning the league has weighed us down so much that we can't afford to take chances on youths.

For instance against Oldham, why wasn't Suso, Raheem or Adorjan on the bench?
Could have done them some good to come on when we were up by 3 goals.

Next time there's a lot of buzz around a black or Welsh 17-18 year old winger in the championship, can we please go out and buy him before Tottenham and Arsenal get their hands on him?

* Walcott
* Lennon
* Bale
* Chamberlain
Such as Raheem Sterling?
Didn't play in the championship or League one.
Didn't play League one? Perhaps correct. And although younger (more like Walcott's age when he moved), it seems like he may have an opportunity to make an impact in a similar timeframe as Bale, Chamberlain. It took Bale 3 years to have any real impact didn't it?
3 lads from the list also graduated from the Southampton academy.

Think FreshRed's point is about giving young players chances. Say Chamberlain. Even if we had signed him, he'd probably be featuring on the subs bench instead of given starts.
Said the same thing in a different thread. When's the last time we played a newly bought 18-19 year old regularly if not devastated by injury?
I suspect round about the last time we bought a 18/19 year old good enough to start regularly

Maybe we should just buy Southampton's academy.

So around the time we bought Jamie Redknapp.

I have a feeling Blackburn will get something out of this game.
The force is strong with you, hansern.
Ha! That was so far off the mark it hurts. At 1-1 I thought Arsenal were going to go down the usual road of late, but credit to them. Blackburn were horrendous.

Still he made a meal out of it.

For the Barcelona 2-1 Real Sociedad match:

Eight of Barcelona's starting XI tonight have come from their academy. They also have another four on the bench.

Nine of Real Sociedad's starting XI have come from their academy system.

Getafe 0-1 Real Madrid

RM back four: Pepe (30MM), Ramos (27MM), Coentrão (30MM), Arbeloa (a mere 5MM). Total 92MM

Newcastle have been extremely lucky in the last 2 games. If they keep this up they'll be in the mix for fourth all the way in.

Hard to see Chelsea getting anything against United today. Which is good for our 4th place chances. Still never nice to be wanting United to win.

Not if the difference at the end of the season is a point for us to take 4th or Chelsea.

We play Chelsea at home in May. Could be our "third" cup final.
