The Top 6

I'll probably piss people off here, but I have a horrible fear that our lack of depth (& lack of extra games with which to blood youngers players in before they're needed) may well cost us.

It'll cost Everton too, they have a similar, but more obvious, lack of strength in depth.

1. City
2. Chelsea
3. Arsenal
4. Utd
5. Liverpool
6. Spurs
7. Everton

So much depends on injuries this season as quite a few teams are reliant (perhaps overly so) on a couple of players, us, Everton, Arsenal, & Utd will all struggle if one or two key players are out to some degree or another.

Whilst that is always true, each of those teams has sacrificed having brilliant backups in order to strengthen the first team.
We have no extra games this season. Squad depth
shouldn't matter as much as much as it did when we were in Europe.

I genuinely don't understand all these posters predicting the gunners ahead of us. They've got more serious squad issues than we do and have more games to play.

The dangers are Spurs and a resurgent Mancs outfit. I think the Chavs are nailed on for top and city will follow them over the line.

I have no idea.

I don't think I'd put money right now on us finishing in the top 4 though - probably 5th or 6th. The other teams just have a bit more experience.

If we were winning these games more & more convincingly & looked to be building up that mentality that we were unbeatable that often goes with it, I'd be happier.

As it is we've had/got a long run of fixtures you'd expect us to win.

We simply don't know what the teams reaction will be if we get our arses handed to us in a game, or even in a first half of a game, but I find it hard to imagine us bouncing back when we look mentally suspect in the second half so often.

Yeah, there is just something about this team that doesn't feel quite right at the moment. We look fragile and a play like a team of individuals rather than a real team. I don't know whether that's down to quality, management or mentality but it's probably a combination of them all to varying degrees.

I was hoping to see more cohesion by this point but it's still early days so there is time for us to improve and if nothing else, we don't have the misery and pressure of a bad start this year to contend with. As Rodgers says, hopefully we can keep going, improve and hopefully get one or two players in Jan to help us push on.

I think United will struggle for top 3 and I reckon they'll finish 4th or 5th BUT an injury to Van Persie and they'll really struggle to even finish 6th!

So Everton are +4 and Utd are -8 points compared to this time last year. Does this show us what Moyes is really capable of?

Interesting.

Arsenal have played 8, won 6, drawn 1, lost 1 and are -5 compared to last year. So they won 8 out of 8 of the corresponding fixtures last season?

I love the fact the forum software changed the Utd minus points to a smiley face!

Southampton have been amazing this season so far. Allowed only 3 goals in 9 matches and sit third in the table. Astonishing resilience. I think that they can realistically go for a top six finish if they go on like this. Very tough team to beat right now.

If Southampton avoid injures they are a real dark horse for top 4.

Great set of players, great squad and no European football to tire them

Everton can mostly thank Lukaku for their great start. What a difference the last few hours of the transfer window makes.

The top 6-8 could follow each other closely all season imho. I can see Soton dropping off though tbh. Maybe Everton if Lukaku get injured.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Spurs, Everton and Utd. It will be close all season imho.

Arsenal were 6th this time last year and Liverpool were 12th

It all depends what happens after the Jan transfer window.

Suarez leaves = Freefall
Suarez stays = Definite Top 4
Suarez stays + Marquee signing = Title challengers
Long-term injury to any of SAS, and no good replacement = Top 6
