The sending off

It's also where the head happens to be. John Terry's bizarre habit of trying to head a ball that's already on the ground would hardly have made it easy for feet to avoid him. The City keeper is about six foot 2; Mane is about five foot six or seven. Even if Mane attempted a ballet stretch his foot shouldn't be higher than the keeper's chest unless the keeper is lowering his head. But this discussion is now in need of being put out of our misery.
Lol john terry ... yeah and what if the player is a midgit like owen and messi and salah... a high leg for them is like up to a goalkeepers belly or lower.

For the fear of repetition. If it was the other way and Aguero did that to Ming, we'd have all agreed it was a worthy red.

It is what it is. Move on. 3 game ban.

I have a question.

Has no one else thought about how the keeper was going to win the ball in the challenge he was going into?

Whilst I accept Mane's foot was high, my initial reaction to the challenge was that the keeper was intent on wiping out the player, ball or no ball. In fact, in addition to Mane's boot making contact with the keepers face, the keeper does actually body check the fuck out of Mané too for me. I can see why a red was given, but I don't agree with it.

Also, I've seen plenty bringing the injury and the punishment together. The injury is not relative to the outcome.

It was the most obvious sending off since Battiston. He was late to the play and dragged his 5 foot high studs across a bloke's face. I'm not sure why it needs explaining to people. It that was our keeper on the receiving end, there'd be a gofundme page started.

I can't understand how anyone can say it wasn't a red cars offence

Yes it was a red according to today's rules but there was zero intention in it but sometimes accidents deserve reds.

That said the irony of the situation is that if he had not had his foot up it would have resulted in being charged by a goaly 2 metres outside of the area who then could also have been sent off.

It was a 50/50 and changed the game totally.

Unlucky.

We should definetely appeal. Punishment enough is the 5-0 drubbing we took.

Red card yes. But 3 match ban? Seems harsh. A 2 match would at least mean he misses just 1 PL game (and the league cup tie).
