The Reus delusion

What I learned from his World cup performance is that he's waisted on the wing. Should play behind striker in a free role, but I fear that he'll end up on the wing anyway.

I think it's more likely - given that he's two footed and we play with far more freedom than England - that he'll interchange across the whole of that line behind Sturridge. The exciting thing is that Sterling, Lallana, Markovic and Coutinho all seem very capable of that. So yeah, he will have a free role.

And besides, I don't think there's much to be learnt at all from Hodgson's England.

He had a big Liverpool contingent and the rest of the squad were made up of players from teams who by and large had played good, attractive, attacking football throughout the season. Rather than capitalise on that and play a style that the players were comfortable we got this confused system of inconsistent pressing while dropping deep and not really supporting the attack from midfield. The only player that pressed with any consistently really was Welbeck. It was disjointed and represented nothing of the style or form of the individual players involved.

So I wouldn't take any impression of any player from what was effectively three dead rubbers, Italy not getting out of that group was the shock; Hodgson's England wasn't.

[article=caughtoffside.com]Manchester United are set to revive their interest in Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus by engaging in a £45 million battle with Liverpool for the 25-year old German, reports the Daily Express.

The Red Devils were left frustrated by Reus’ preference to join Barcelona earlier this summer, but they are still keen to land the ace German international.

United’s arch rivals Liverpool have already been linked with Reus, whose reported move to Barcelona fell through as the Catalans opted for the Reds’ ace striker Luis Suarez instead. However, Manchester United have long been eyeing a move for Reus, which could make this transfer saga a rather interesting one in the coming weeks.

Liverpool can offer the Borussia Dortmund man Champions League football, which could get the forward to think about a move to Anfield, but it remains to be seen where the youngster wishes to move this summer.

Dortmund are also making efforts to keep their star player as they have already lost ace forward Robert Lewandowski to arch rivals Bayern Munich this summer, but their attempts could turn out to be futile if a big offer comes in for Reus.

@Halmeister 😉 This article amounts to about the same level of bollocks as my posts in this thread I guess ha.

Kroos just went to Madrid. Reus will go to Bayern I reckon.

Meant to be a 'genuine' Dortmund lad and turned Munich down already when he left B. Monchengladback. He'll give Dortmund one more year and then move abroad perhaps.

The only thing there is to learn from Hodgson's England is not do it like that.

Hope Rodgers gave these mateys a call for our England players...

Its ridiculous that Bayern can just keep buying out Dortmund, thankfully Reus will turn them down in favour of us.

But what if it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck?

And has a fancy foreign name. Here is a Baikal Teal for you.

Just heard from an acquaintance of mine who lives in Dortmund and supports Borussia. The above would literally be news to him as he's telling me that nobody over there is even mentioning us as a possible destination. According to this guy:

(a) Reus won't be going anywhere this season coming - there is a release clause of 35 mill.euros but it's operative only from this time next year, the club don't want to sell him and his current contract runs until 2017;

(b) If he does go, Bayern are considered his most likely destination, possibly as a replacement for Ribery or Robben. Barca are another possibility that's been talked about. It's thought that, if he doesn't go to either of those two clubs, he'll most likely go nowhere at all.

I couldn't see much sense in him leaving Dortmund for Liverpool. It's no real step up, if at all, and Dortmund, from the outside at least, looks a great club to play for.
