The not confirmed, it's really only a rumour transfer thread ;Summer 2012

It was laughable last summer too. Didn't end that well though.
Maybe I'm inadvertently criticising Rodgers but my the only thing I've expressed so far is that I'm worried about the players we're being linked to.
Last season has NO bearing on this season Modo. NO BEARING.
And neither do the players we are 'linked' with.
Were we linked with Henderson or Carroll? No we just signed them. Now i understand you may not rate them as players, but try to understand the irrellevance of that in relation to the point you are making.
BOOM - 35m striker
BOOM - 17m midfielder
Both out of nowhere.
Its no guarantee of success of course but we do do business that way. The times when our business is drawn out in the press is when the people we are trying to sign from take it there (ie:Holloway with Adam) so a few paper links to Kalou or Berbatov are fucking meaningless.
I dont mind like you can flap all summer for all I care, but like i told Localny, if you are only going to be happy when the club do what YOU expect them to, you will be dissappointed more often than not.

"Rodgers has a shortlist of players he wants to tempt to Liverpool but, beyond clarifying his position on Sigurdsson, he is reluctant to make public his intentions.

"I like to very much keep my counsel on potential targets," he said.
"I think there are a few players who can come in and improve the group straight away.
"I know the types of player I need to bring here to make us function well and that's something myself, the club and the board will look at.
"The problem with a club like Liverpool is they get linked with every player going. It looks like, with every player linked plus the players we've already got, we're going to have five or six teams next year.
"That's the way of the world these days. Every player wants to play for Liverpool. The magnitude, the size and the history of the club, and the quality of the people here in the city, means people will want to come and play here.
"The problem is, everyone can't"

This is what the manager said yesterday aparently. Maybe you should read it Modo and settle down for a few weeks. Its quite possible the players he has in mind are playing in the Euros

I honestly don't get how Modo still hasn't worked out how not to be a twat. Just as a matter of trial and error. Modo son, when everyone else in the entire world is telling you to shut up, that means you're being a twat. 🙂

All of the good ones are busy at the minute though mate.
Dont get me wrong, I'd like our business done early but in reality it doesnt mean we will or wont succeed. Id rather we take our time and get the RIGHT players.
Its laughable to complain about who Rodgers may or may not sign at this stage.
But then it is Modo.

No all the top european players that we know of are busy right now. There's still undiscovered talented players who aren't at the euros and our scouts should bloody well know who they are by now. We seem to have the worst scouts when it comes to discovering young talent. Well whoever he brings in i hope they have a good first touch, good footballing brain and fast. Our team is just too slow. We deserately need pace in our team.

I think people need to put things into perspective. It takes time. We haven't been good in the scouting department of late, but then our manager is only a couple of weeks into the job at a time when players are on holiday, our own playing staff are away from the club and by and large, not many clubs are doing business.

The targets United have signed have been identified over a long period of time. Rodgers has 'just' joined us and needs time to put his transfer plans into place. It's worth noting aswell that whatever aspirations and budget he had at Swansea, that's completely changed now he's at a club with better resources, better players already in place and a completely different level of expectation. I don't know why people seem to be of the assumption that he should have walked in and started signing players from the off. He needs to readjust his focus now for a new club with different aspirations. If he came in and signed all his Swansea targets from the off, the same posters moaning about inactivity would be telling us how poor our ambitions are - as Modo already is, based on nothing other than idle speculation.

That's how we all feel Modo, and I do understand the caution and the sense of dread when it comes to transfer windows. But as said, it's early days and no one has a clue about our intentions.
Not even MarkMC?

Not even MarkMC?

He has been wrong before Modo. And even 'IF' we sign one of the more experienced players we're being linked with who lack the wow factor, that's just one link. No one is saying the likes of Kalou are going to be a marquee signing. You're basing your frustrations on speculation and insider info 'at this moment in time' and putting emphasis on one player that we may have shown interest in as a signal of the peak of our intentions. It's not, it's column filling and Chinese whispers.

If you want to base your frustrations on previous windows, then you're welcome to be cautious about it all and show an element of concern. But it's a different window, manager & intention. Get a grip eh?

Thats exactly it Modo. We will see, regardless of what we do.
Imagine we are on a train to a destination, we cant affect the speed, course or duration of the journey. We can either sit down and talk about it and discuss the journey as we go or we can panic and moan until we get their.
Some will do one some will do the other, but we ALL end up at the same location at the same time on the same train. Some are relaxed and ready to roll some are already stressed and in a shit mood.

I give up. I've never known a more impatient, hysterically cynical poster. For all you're cynicism, it's amazing how you'll believe any half-cocked story that suits your glass half empty outlook.

I wouldn't sell Skrtel unless there is a fantastic defender we can buy for under 10M to take his place.

He's got 2 years left on his contract and we're under no obligation to sell.

What, I meant we'll see as in, OK let's see what happens? I wasn't being cynical there.
I get your point I'll give Rodgers the benefit of the doubt for now.

I wouldn't buy another CB. Give Coates a chance. But it's more likely that Carra would be back being first choice. We have Kelly as back up and Wisdom in the reserves.
Give the Uruguayan a chance.

Of course we are. We would lose half our value if we wait til next year.

Not necessarily. If the train crashes, or sheik stands up to reveal a suicide jacket, or some other fucker pulls out a gun and black sack looking to take your valuables. Then your relaxed mindset will cost you vital seconds and lead to doom. Whereas someone who is already in a state of panic and twitching will be able to act instantly and instinctively to save themselves whilst leaving the rest of you to die.

If he doesnt sign a contract, he could may go for peanuts next year. A risk worth taking.

Though I undertstand your sentiment, we are too quick to get rid of players who get the hump and want to leave.

Look at Spurs last year, Levy made firm stand that Modric wasn't going to leave and they nearly got 4th

Not necessarily. Nasri only had a year left on his contract and went for 25M.

If Skrtel still wants out to a top team, he'll have to play out of his skin again next season, which can only help us both on the pitch and in terms of the fee we'll end up getting for him. Then there is also the chance that we do better next season and he decides to stay.

Every time a player here wants out we let them go no questions asked. I think we can learn a lesson or two from the way Levy handled Modric last summer.

Hahaha careful that someone does not exploit your easily influenced mind one day

Sig can talk to him later today and say no thanks, we can sign him tomorrow and he can be unveiled on Monday, lovely.

Modric had like 4 years left on his deal, though, didn't he? Much less of a risk.

I couldn't really complain if we got £25m for him - you'd have to really fuck up in the market to end up with a worse squad after reinvesting that sort of money. Not saying it couldn't happen, but it seems like a smaller risk than keeping him and pissing him off and losing him for a fraction in 12 or 18 months.

I like the cut of Rodger's gib since he's taken over but am I the only person who would have been more excited if we'd got his new replacement at Swansea than him? Maybe I'm just remembering how much I loved Laudrap as a player but he was absolutely mint.

No you're not, mate, our resident Danish poster KHL would have been creaming his kecks. However, Laudrup's record as a manager is patchy. If I'd been offered a choice between him and Rodgers, I'd have gone for Rodgers without a doubt.

We would lose out either way and end up looking silly. Rodgers has left a good team there for Laudrup, and without much effort he will very likely continue on and have a great season with them. People with short term memories will be flapping on about how he is doing a better job then Rodgers and is a better manager. On the other hand, Dalglish has left behind a mess, which only he would have known how to clean up as he is a genius. But as it happens, Rodgers is going to have a hard hard season instead and struggle through the mess being ripped apart and blamed for it.

Then people will laugh at the club, particularly the Swansea fans.

Not convinced by laudrup. Seems to have a history will falling out at the clubs he goes to. Seems to leave clubs after a very short length of time. He's hardly one if you're looking for stability for 5+ years.

His last 3 clubs he has only stayed at for one season.

They did get fourth my man.
