The Italian stallion

Absolutely not overkill.

One injury and you're now rotating 4 forwards with 3 games a week.

We had to play kids against Chelsea in the league cup final last year. Didn't we start with Bradley as RWF in that game (and look to rush Mo back to the team where he got injured again and ended the season poorly)?

With the new CL format and more games, we absolutely need 6 forward players.

City have Bobb, Savio, Grealish, Foden, Haaland, Doku
Arse have Saka, Nelson, Trossard, Martinelli, Jesus, Havertz
United have Rashford, Garnacho, Amad, Antony, Hojlund, Zirkzee
Chelsea have Neto, Palmer, Nkunku, Jackson, Madueke, Mudryk, Guiu, D Forfana, Sterling + more

We now have Salah, Chiesa, Diaz, Nunez, Gakpo, Jota.

The point is that we have 6 basically top class forwards now. Yeah you can twist things if you include Bobb or Nelson etc, but I don't think either is really equivalent to any of our 6.

And we don't have 3 games a week. We have 2, sometimes.

City also HAD Alvarez. And Bernardo can also playing either wing.

Ultimately, I'd rather have 6 top class forwards than 5, suffer 1 injury crisis, and then resort to play Jayden Danns, Koumas and Bradley right wing.

Klopp performed a mini-miracle with those lot up top. But it also meant we rushed back players and when they came back, they actually ruined our title dreams.

And if we're competing on all fronts, it'll be 3 games a week.

Sat morning KO, Tues/Wednesday, Sunday afternoon = 3 games in 6-7 days.

Yeah, nobody is going to bat a eyelid if Bobb (?) or Nelson is not included in a matchday squad. But if everyone is fit, leaving 1 or 2 of our senior forwards out of the squad will be a constant thing we’ll have to do - I imagine Chiesa or Gakpo or whoever becomes 5-6th choice won’t be happy.

I'll just pretend this is a free signing as we're basically getting him for the Solanke sell-on fee
That's FSG transfer strategy policy at work for you. Don't spend any money in the summer window unless it is money from a sell on of a player, thus keeping supporters happy

You're right, but Salah might leave next summer. That opens up a spot.
Also, you kinda have to perform when you play. Gakpo needs to score, Nunez damn sure needs to score and until then, they can plant their asses on the bench and shut up.

Well they better train well then during the week. Iron sharpens iron.

There are plenty of games in a season to rotate, and somebody is likely to get injured. Don't think we've gone a season with Jota getting injured at some point.

I see your point, obviously, but I think you're overestimating the scope for one player to cover for an injury crisis.

And Saturday to the following weekend's Sunday is 9 days, and there are less than 9 days in a week, so unfortunately you're wrong about that.

Of course, we might occasionally play Sun => midweek => Sat, which would technically be 3 days within a one week period. However, over time the average weekly load will revert to 2, and hence I simply cannot accept the description of "3 games a week" as an accurate general label.

Sorry about that.

I really hope some of them do complain, because that would mean that our best are staying fit and keeping them out of the line up.

I feel bad for other teams. They sign players every day. We sign sexy players once a year. They don't get to experience this level of expectation, and interest. 🤣

Ok, I concede. You're technically right. It's not 3 games a week. But can be 3 games in a week.

I try to think of the best-case scenario for us (esp the times when trophies are won/lost; at the end of the season). So not the 1-2 games a week at the start of the season. But the 3-4 games in 9 days at the end of the season if we're going for everything.

Do you remember last season when we were going for all 4 trophies and played 6 games in 18 days, 3 in 6 days (Where we lost to Everton and drew away to W Ham, which basically killed our title hopes). It would have been great to have Chiesa then, when Jota was injured and Gakpo had his baby to attend to?

Or in the 21/22 when we were going for all 4 trophies again, and we played 9 games in 27 days (3 in 6 days again).

We effectively lost the league during these periods because of our squad was knackered. Like when we drew to Spurs at home (after gruelling CL semi final ties and the FA cup/League cup 0-0 extra time marathons with Chelsea). Those dropped points at home to Spurs, killed us then. It would have been great to have 6 top class forwards at that time.

I hate the phrase "3 games a week" as yes in isolation we might do 3 games in 7 days but then if you use that logic you only have 2 the next 7, and the next 7 unless you start double counting games.

We would on average play twice a week. Once at a weekend (or Monday night) and once midweek (either domestic or European cup).

After the international break we play every weekend and midweek until Santa empties his sack. A better way to phrase it.

Aquilani, Borini, Balotelli, that fat fullback whose name I forgot - what can possibly go wrong?

Forza Italia, eh.
