The international break...

Sterling's been the one decent player for Engerlund tonight in a bloody DIRE game. He won the penalty for 'Roo' to score.

That's "Wazza" to you ! . What's even worse is they've started referring to Sterling as "Razza" , sturridge has called him that a few times in interviews . Brendan needs to nip that crap in the bud .

Markovic not even worth a place on the bench??

That's only because of the situation we have, with there being an odd man out this season (more than one, if you want to count Lucas and Suso) when all the midfielders and forwards are fit. Taking this Villa game as an example, the matchday squad could look like this:

-- starters: Mignolet, Manquillo, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Gerrard, Henderson, Lallana, Sterling, Sturridge, Balotelli.
-- subs: Jones, Sakho, Flanagan, Allen, Coutinho, Can, Lambert

All those mids/forwards won't usually be fit/sharp at the same time, so this situation won't arise that often, but when it does, I think it's likely to be one of the young guys new to the league (Can / Markovic) who lose out this season, unless they're in great form. Unlucky not to be in the 18, rather than undeserving.

Of course, there's an alternative scenario where we play with just one striker, which then frees up a spot for Markovic, probably at the expense of Lambert (Balotelli goes to bench, one of Allen / Coutinho / Markovic starts, and the other two go onto the bench).

For the first time in as long as I can remember I didnt watch an England game.

I dont think I will watch again until Hodgson is gone. Fucking FA boys club.

"England's Euro 2016 qualifying opponents are unlikely to attract big crowds to Wembley, says Roy Hodgson.
Just 40,181 fans watched Wednesday's 1-0 win friendly over Norway,England's lowest since Wembley reopened in 2007.
England will play San Marino, Estonia, Switzerland, Slovenia and Lithuania in Euro 2016 qualifying at Wembley.
Manager Roy Hodgson said: "We'll find it hard to bring attendances back because the opponents we're playing won't excite the public."

Seriously , you have to hand it to Hodgson , he is a fucking master at pulling the wool over people's eyes. keyser soze has nothing on this fucker .

For the most part when even a semi decent england team was being put out in a competitive game they'd get a big crowd . People aren't interested in these games more because England are crap rather than the quality of the opposition but here's Roy making excuses and getting away with it .

I'm not even an england fan but it pisses me off that this fuckwit gets away with this shite . Ok in international football you can be hindered by what's available to you , you can't just go out and buy a new player, but here's a crazy idea - maybe do a good job , maybe overachieve beyond the expected . How he kept his job beyond the world cup i have no idea .

Did you hear his press conference after the game? Incredible. He was talking about Norway's heroic blocking of shots as if it was England v Poland back in 1973. And to think that Rooney, that great dullard, is well on his way to beating Bobby Charlton's scoring record. No wonder more people watched The Great British Bake Off than the England match. Even the brass band-playing Engerlund mob are disaffected.

rooney's comments about sterling were unbelievably embarrassing. he sounded so bitter that his moment had been stolen by another player. reminded me of when he used to clam up when people waxed about ronaldo.

The one thing that may get Hodgson the sack, after his supporters in the media have run out of excuses, is the falling attendances (and hence revenue shortfall) at Wembley. He (and they) knows it, and that's why he has launched a pre-emptive strike by talking about attendances back in the day.

I'm not quite sure what to make of that. Up until the last one we didn't win a gams after an international break but Newcastle and Everton away aren't easy games. The Southampton win at Anfield was an odd one too - 4 CBs in defence as I recall. We won the games after all of these I think.

I cannot fathom how Hodgson still has a job. Its as though there's been this great struggle for England to become more than they are over the last few appointments, and somewhere deep within the folds of his bejowled face, the entire nation has found some solace in his dogged abandonment of all ambition. Seen through that lens, giving Rooney the captaincy now sets things nicely for his overstaying his welcome in 2018, with all the other inevitable favorites, and whatever late entries come in from the doing-decently-well-playing-with-greasy-foreigners for their club side.

Also, I deeply resent this stupid international break. It's even more pointless than watching England when it really matters, and for some reason after last years abuse, and dread of the season starting, I'm completely sucked into watching our team do its thing (score and not defend).

Sakho & Lovren just need to decide, or have decided for them, who steps up & who drops back.

They both currently take the initiative & push forward, then see the other one doing it & hesitate, or both end up giving space.

As soon as this gets sorted (which it will if they continue to play together), then we'll have a rock solid CB partnership imo.

I thought he looked very impressive in the above clip. Pace, good close control and turns away from his marker a bit like Sterling and than runs at the defense with the ball

Was raging when I read that on twitter. Hopefully scan was precautionary and he's fine.

Hopefully it's nothing, but he's rested on Monday so he's fit a raring for the Villa game.

I'm getting the slight impression that the media are starting to question Hodgson - and not in the sensational, Daily Mail-esq outrage sack the manager sort of way. I mean in a more measured, intelligent sense. There also seems to be a few people daring to suggest Rooney shouldn't be in the team. Which he shouldn't.

They are definitely falling out of love with the old coot. It had started to happen anyway but his outburst at the press conference didn't help him.

No way will he be replaced before the Euros though, worse luck.
