The hunt for a defender

It means we're probably offering him more than Man City, which is a worry because they overpay everyone.

Thats pretty unlikely considering he was rumoured to be on about 120k a week, City are not renewing his contract so its not like we are in a bidding war against them. He is 32 now and has fallen out of favour at City, its not unreasonable for him to lower his wage demands in order to come to a club like Liverpool. Im not convinced he is what we need, hes the kind of dozy defender I though we were trying to get rid of, but he is experienced at the top level of the game and good in the air.

lescott would be a better buy and can cover left side.

sterling tore him to pieces earlier in the season

I didn't mean more than he's on now.

Brendan: How much for Toure?

Man City: Free

Brendan: !!!! We'll take him

(Next day)

Brendan: Who the fuck are you? Where's Yaya?

The last 2 defenders we've been linked with - Danny Rose and Kolo Toure, have connections with our backroom staffs (Inglethorpe - Tottenham, scouting staffs - Man City). Makes me wonder if its pure fabrication.

We must ensure the progress of Wisdom and Kelly is not blocked completely, so I'd prefer a fairly experienced option who will do well until they're ready to step up.
Today's media buzz is Kolo Toure on a free from Citeh.

Are we sure that he's 32?

So that Echo article suggests all 3 of Toure, Papadopoulos, and Ilori will be coming. Sktel and Coates done for then - and with 2 of the players being under 22, not that great for Kelly and Wisdom, either.

If the moves for all 3 can be funded by selling Skrtel & Coates, then great.

Can't the Portuguese won also play at LB?

Not sure it's bad for Wisdom as it would give him time to develop & replace Toure within a few years. A season loan might be good for him to get more match experience.

In not sure about Kelly - there's a lot of injury issues there.

I'm not sure about Toure - I've literally no idea when I last saw him play - but in theory it looks like a good idea, 2 new young defenders and a cheap(ish) experienced one.

I doubt the moves will be funded by selling Skrtel and Coates, though.

I really just mentioned the Wisodm and Kelly aspects because Macca raised the concern, so it was a nod to that. I share it to some extent, but at the end of the day the club comes first and so Wisdom would just have to compete. Agger's nearly 10 years older than him anyway, so that's another space opening up at some point..... I guess it's a fine balance getting this stuff right.

Why in the fuck would we sign Kolo Toure who Arsenal let go about 4 years ago because he was shit then at 27. Now hes 32 and has sat on his arse for 4 years at Manchester Citeh.
Fuck Kolo Toure. He isnt even better than Wisdom.

Find someone else for fuck sake. This is like an OLD Liverpool signing, in the Downing, Carroll mold.

I like the principle, an older head for a low fee, but probably not the player, although I haven't seen him play for ages. Looks like it'll probably happen though...

I'm against this signing but we need squad depth. I hope that we get in a first choice CB to partner Agger with Skrtel's future uncertain.

One could argue that Arsenal has actually been in a mess defensively ever since he left. Not saying it's all because of Kolo leaving but perhaps he is not quite as bad as some are eager to highlight?

A lot of the City players this Season has looked well below their usual level too mind so I am not putting to much emphasis on recent form to be honest.
