The hunt for a defender

If we can get a tall strong defender who's good at organizing....defence ....intelligence bla bla

We need a Hyypia/Hansen clone. That's it!

Loads of Twitter talk that we're after Papadopolous.
17 mill release clause.

If that happens I'll dance a jigg and cry with joy

is this the guy?

sign him now!!

Also some stories about Papadopolous being close to signing if he gets through a MRI scan that was ordered after a medical. It will be a veeeery looong summer

Hopefully we do our business early in the summer.
That won't stop the rumors off course but it should be even more apparent than usual that they are bull shit.

Isn't that Lovren lad supposed to be a very good defender and weren't we tracking him last summer as well. allegedly.

Yep, would be ace if it happens but I'll be surprised if it does. Schalke have signed Felipe Santana, so Papa could be on the move "somewhere"

I'm sure it won't happen but if we do sign Papa AND Lovren, I will rush out and buy the third kit. Just what we need..

Nice transfer coup for Liverpool if they manage to land Kyriakos Papadopoulos (centre back, born 92, Schalke 04, Greece national team)

Liverpool interest is concrete. Has been on the shortlist/highly rated by many European top clubs (incl. Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd)
However, has been ruled out since late November from a knee injury. Expected to resume training in time for pre season
  1. What I like with Papadopoulos: quick, agile. Not a giant in terms of height but huge presence. Aggressive, leader type, great personality

Before the injury I certainly rated him as one of the top centre-backs in European football, hopefully he'll return to same physical shape
  2. Provided he recovers fully from injury: great fit from the Premier League IMO

There is no way we're getting Papa ... unless the injury has pushed him off other teams' radar ... That would be a major coup - much like Coutinho has been - if we pull this off.

We need to do this early, because a lot of our potential rivals are in the midst of a managerial uncertainty and might want to wait until the new manager is appointed before making major signings. This could be our advantage and it does look like we're poised to make the move early. Fingers crossed.

Good shout Rurik ... If he is really on our radar, we need to wrap him up as quick as possible.

FUCKING YES YES YES YES YES!

I've been advocating this lads signing for fucking beards on here. Really hope we get him.

Doesn't seem that tall though. Doesn't look like one that would be dominant in the air. Plus no way can we afford the price they're asking.

Cordoba was 4'11" and he was dominant in the air (for a midget)
In the premiership where there are lots of high balls and crossing coming in you need your defenders to have some height. I haven't seen much of Papa(too long to say his name) but he doesn't seem to have that great a spring to make up for the lack of height.

Were you specifically looking at his spring though it's all a bit weird football these days.
