The forgotten transfer

I think we keep forgetting/taking for granted that we've brought this lad in. He's quick, strong and has a powerful shot on him, hopefully he'll prove to be a gem:

'best' goals and assists. First goal is a pen, next thing is a standard assist. For 'best' read 'only'

And a header, a 25 yard effort, a great cross from wide on the right, a couple of poachers goals...

He looked quite handy at the world cup. Shame we couldn't have got him over in January.

Cant wait to see what he's like. Could be the next Benteke.

Okay, he's not shite, but he's hardly set the world alight this season. Yes, I'm sure there could be a multitude of reasons for a dip in form etc, but then, there's a dip, and then there's falling off a cliff face.

Yeah, he's had a shit year at an important stage of his development. The Premier League is on another level to the French League so I'm not expecting much from him.

He's the forgotten transfer for good reason.

Top class young striker IMO. Possibly not ready for a major role next season, but should be an excellent signing in the medium term.

I'm not expecting anything from him this season as he's got sicknote, ings, striker x, firmino infront of him so he's hardly going to get any game time. Might aswell send him out on loan, ideally to a premier league team. I don't see what's he's to gain from a season of being 5th choice.

I'm really excited about this lad! Had a great World Cup, didn't have a great season but when I watched him, he was decent, plus he is young and has time on his side and can play anywhere across the front 3.

It's up to him. I somehow doubt Ings would get in Belgium's squad, so logically he has every chance of getting games ahead of him for us, especially given his superior versatility.

It's hard to say what our 3rd or 4th attacker really is, we play with 3 or 4 attackers at times with them all interchanging. Look at us the season before last, we had Sterling, Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho.

Houllier used to talk about the need for four top class strikers. If you discount playing Sterling as the most advanced player last year we had Sturridge (part time), Balotelli, Lambert and Borini. Surely Sturridge (part time), AN Other (Benteke), Ings and Origi are a vast improvement.

Unfortunately that's exactly how I feel, I hope he proves me wrong.

Im not too sure the preniere league is on another level to the French league.

Thats not a view thatis widely subscribed to in Europe...

And the CL and Europa League performance kinda makes me beleive that the premier league is not all that...

Him being shit last year at Lille might be good for him if it lessens the expectations which it undoubtedly has. Having potential means fuck all though if you can't make an impact when given the chance and that's what he has to do next season. Strikers rarely get more than a season to prove themselves at Liverpool so lets hope he hits the ground running or he'll be gone by next season (whether on loan or sold) just like Aspas,Voronin,Balotelli and Borini hopefully , Lambert and Keane etc
You can only think he'll start the season on the bench at best so the Europa league and League cup games could be significant for him.

Hahahaha that's ridiculously OTT.

Realistically he'll get this season to bed in and then next season will be the time to produce something valuable.

Whys is it over the top? I'm not saying he should be getting 20 goals next season as that would be completely too much to expect but making a contribution either from the bench or on the odd start isn't asking too much.
If he gets 6 or 7 goals and adjusts well to the league then that would be fine as far as i'm concerned. If we buy a new striker and sturridge gets hit fitness back then he isn't going to see much game time apart from sub appearances but if he only gets 1 or 2 goals all season and mostly struggles then i wouldn't be at all suprised if the club moves him on.
It's happend too many times before to plenty of players to just dismiss the possibility. Nothing he's done so far in his short career suggests he's ready to be in our first eleven and it can be very hard getting a chance in the team never mind doing well.
I hope he does well but it's hard to have too much confidence in him after a wasted season at Lille and the odd time i have seen him play he was pretty average. Maybe he didn't want to be at Lille anymore and was just going through the motions but if that's the case then he'll have to show much more determination to succeed here.

He is lucky is he came this summer rather than last year, as our expectations are much lower this summer.

Hes just a boy.

Signings like him are the ones we used to get excited about hoping that we picked up a gem early in his development.
I dont expect anything from him next year except a decent show in the cups and to integrate into the team.
Is he a new Anelka? Chances are he isnt but if you dont snap up these prodigies you pay 30m for them 5 years down the line.

Fingers crossed the kid plays a part and develops well. He looked good in the World cup so theres a player in there.
