I’m not going to say anything else on Salah.Mods, before the inevitable PushmePullyou starts. Is there a way of me muting specific posters from threads?

If only someone else had the same standard.I’m not going to say anything else on Salah.
Is no one talking about his comments this weekend about not getting any contract offer yet?
If its 3 years, its too risky, if 2 then I am all for it.Someone was saying on the radio this morning that there has been an offer and the sticking-point is length of contract - he wants a longer deal than we've put on the table. If that's right, my guess is it's not the sort of thing that FSG are likely to give ground on.
Except losing him would be up there with our biggest fuck ups of all time. So all of the above goes out the window if he doesn’t sign.I can see why we wouldn’t want another 3 year contract for a 32 year old earning a basic £350k a week, regardless of his fitness and output.
If we have to sign Mo, Virg & Trent and manage wage and transfer expenditure as a percentage of turnover then, our wiggle room for investment elsewhere quickly evaporates.
The problem with Mo - and this is why we don’t need to rush things, is the deal he’s on with Liverpool, including bonuses and naming rights gets him much, much more than £350k a week (closer to £1m, if you believe his agent).
Also, there aren’t many teams that can offer him that level of pay AND the exposure of EPL & CL - PSG, France are fucked; none of the Italian teams could afford him; Barca are fucked; Bayern and Real aren’t interested, City wouldn’t touch him, Arsenal have Saka, Chelsea have younger players in that position; Utd & Newcastle are shite. That leaves Saudi and if he wants to go there for money, good for him.
High risk, but who’s actually going to offer him a contract for 3 years to match ours and give him CL football.
Abbas’s biggest leverage is the ticking clock and our biggest trap to fall into is not taking our time to make sure it’s the right deal - even if it means losing him.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with this but why would resigning 3 core players impact wriggle room for investment elsewhere?I can see why we wouldn’t want another 3 year contract for a 32 year old earning a basic £350k a week, regardless of his fitness and output.

Of course he’s going to go at some point. Every player does. That’s not up for debate so not sure why you even mention it. Letting the best attacker in the league, one of the best in the world and one of our greatest ever players leave when his output, impact, professionalism, marketability and overall contribution on and off the pitch is greater than ever would be a monumental failing of the club.Dreamie, it really wouldn’t.
He’s going to go at some point - everything ends eventually.
Do I think we should keep him - absolutely. He IS one of the best players to ever play for us.
But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t consider the possibility that now is the time to say goodbye - it just depends on what he wants and it depends on what we have in mind when his numbers diminish next season due to AFCON, etc.
It’s not just about Liverpool meeting his demands - if he’s desperate to stay then it’s well within his gift to make that happen.
looks like he peaked 3-4 seasons ago

What a load of rubbish, of course he will leave eventually and of course he will drop off. He’s already lost some explosiveness and pace but what he has shown is that he’s incredibly adaptable and the arguably the most professional player at the highest level we’ve ever had. Milner was great but he wasn’t at Salah’s level. The key point is I think Salah can continue to contribute significantly until he’s 36. Others are worried he might fall off a cliff tomorrow. I just don’t see that with him at all. 3 years would be low risk when you consider everything he brings as a total package.Because you’re acting like Mo won’t ever leave or won’t ever drop off.
He’s definitely having less of an overall impact next season because he’s missing an important chunk of games in December, unless he decides not to go to AFCON.
Then what - we’re relying on a 34 year old - if you can’t see the potential problem then your blind.
Anyway, I’m all for signing him, but if we don’t, we move on, like we did when every other great player we had came to the end of his time

The rubbish part was saying I’m acting like he’ll never leave or decline. What’s bit’s rubbish - he’s out pretty much from end of first week of December ‘25 to potentially mid Jan - that a fairly big chunk in a key period.
Let me put into context for you - he’s never played in less than 30 league games for us in a season - 32 is the lowest.
Next season if Egypt progress through the tournament, there’s a very good chance he won’t be able to play MORE THAN 30 league games, plus he’ll miss at least one CL game, the FA Cup 3rd round and potentially a League Cup Q/F should we still be in it.
Again - not saying don’t sign him - but if he’s asking for an increase starting with a season where he’s going to play the least amount of games he ever has for us - it’d be remiss of us not to challenge that.
Stevie, can't you just go to your wardrobe to have this conversation?
