The Donkey

Along with Gomez to get his first goal, we should all be anticipating which team will end up at the end of Nunez's fury of non-misses. The law of averages dictated that he will NOT be hitting the posts of the goal forever, at some point one or more teams will be absolutely destroyed by him, right now - he is a team by himself up front, he does what he wants and causes mayhem and panic, and at some point he will absolutely destroy the opposition team, and the great thing is - it could be ANY team - I am talking even Arsenal / Man City / United / Chelsea in cup final - ANY of them. I am just waiting for that game, coz I know it will come.
You just know it's going to be the FAC final.

Nunez's improvement this season is phenomenal (and this inc. goals and assists, even though those numbers could be far higher and the obvious missing stat is 'woodwork' !) :

All this talk about Nunez, but the player doing the business for us lately is Jota and I don't think anyone in their right mind would pick Nunez to start over Jota atm, if only one place was up for grabs.

For me it has to be Jota and Nunez, and the third spot I don't care.

Nunez movement opens space for Jota, and vice versa.

Goal contribution (goals and assists) wise, they're on equal footing. Difference is, Nunez is more creator than finisher

Hate to say it, but I'm happy with the trio upfront at the moment. Ideally Salah wouldn't just walk back in

We really need him. Fuck. What is the injury?

Oh, I think this was more klopp saying, this guy played through having a really swollen foot, and kept going. I don't think it necessarily means he won't play, it was in relation to all the talk of his missing, nice attempt to protect the player.

I guess one thing you can definitely say about Nunez is that he seems to generate a lot of good will.

I don't really like cult players, they're for shit teams. But he's an enigma all right. He's doing more than enough at the moment to stay in the team. The cold-light-of-day stats at the end of the season probably won't reveal exactly what he brings, a bit like Kuyt's didn't. But he's letting others flourish at the moment, so keep him in. Left-wing for me, Jota in the middle.

Question. Is Nunez just Kuyt with worse finishing but better chance creation?

I love dirk but it's not it. You'd have to give Kuyt biker whizz and mushrooms to get ten minutes of donkeyball out of him. That said those aged assist stats are misleading.

Dirk's best season was 26 GAs in 08/09 season. I think we can say with confidence our man Nunez will beat that piece of stat.
The fact is we are better as a team with Nunez then we are without regardless of how many opportunities he foils

He's riding on Jota and Diaz's coattails.
We're giving him pity pens, FFS.

In his defence. He's scored every other town he's taken at the top level (12?)

I can't agree hes riding on Diaz coattails. For the most part he's shite. He only plays as it helps the balance. Last winger I thought that about? Albert fucking riera

True, Diaz was wank for most of the first half of the season but he's been brilliant in 2024

Naaaaaaah not for me. He had a couple of games on fire, then reverted to the mean of struggling with passing and running down blind channels

Yes.

Except he's also quicker, stronger, a 1 in 3 goals to game instead of 1 in 4, far better technically with his passing dribbling and especially first touch and much better looking.
