THE ASHES... 2009

Football teams sometimes play better when they go a man down. Perhaps we should have forced the Aussies to do so for their own good. 8)

Not one over will be easy. We need Anderson to have the series of a life imo.
uh huh.

You've been the opposite to Ryan in this thread so far.
Haha thanks man. It has gone pretty well.

I thought Aus would sneak this series 2-1 but I'm not sure there will be another result in it to be honest. The weather and the evenness of the teams might see to that.
Haddin is a loss to the Aussies and it looks like getting Lee fit is a non-starter. And, remember, he wasn't in great form to begin with so it would be a big ask for him.
KP is a loss but Bell is no mug.
I'm of the opinion that England playing it cagey from now on could see them unbeatable.

Australia may rue that 1st test big time.

If the weather holds, we may sneak it tomorrow, expect a run chase of approx 140.

It's a big if though.

Another fantastic day's cricket. Despite all the rain Edgbaston has served up yet another treat.

I went to Edgbaston today with two of my nephews. We couldn't have picked a better day! The cricket was great. We particularly enjoyed Flintoff's innings - it was a classic of his big-hitting style.

We bought those little radios that fit on your ear - they are very good. You can listen to the SKy Sports commentary or BBC Test Match Special. They cost £10 or nothing if you are a Vodafone customer.

So, Headingley tomorrow. Freddie fit? He's gotta be really touch and go, he could hardly fucking walk off the ground at Edgbaston.

England one win away from winning the Series. Doesn't get any bigger than this...
I dont think he's going to be fit to bowl, but as a middle order batsman and talisman/presence he should stay on.
If it were me, i would drop Bopara and bring in Sidebottom or Harmison. Relieve Freddy of bowling duties and move him up the order a place.
Strauss
Cook
Bell
Collingwood
Flintoff
Prior
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Sidebottom
Onions.
Theres massive questions over Cook and Broad aswell but you cant change too much. Cook you have to hope has 1 key innings in him (although for me hes been TOTALLY found out by the Aussi management. As has Ravi) and Broad at least gets tail runs and can hold up a bowling end.
We are starting to look thin on the ground, and with only Strauss and Anderson consistently performing and with Lee back im starting to get nervous.
What i do hope for is 5 days play. Id hate this series to be won on a washout.
Im still going with 1-1 and Australia to retain.

I'm Gonna be there on Saturday. Have tickets for the west stand. Can't wait. If you see a bunch of lads on the telly all dressed up as star wars characters with cricket gear on thats us. The Star Wars XI! ;D

As for the cricket - its a crucial game. Make or break time. I think Lee is gonna be fit and I think Flintoff is as well. Just! Just praying for no rain and a great match
ok. So which are you? Yoda?

If Flintoff is not fit to bowl, then Trott will come in for him.

Is Siddle the man to get dropped for the Aussies (for Lee)?

Ravi is 100% guaranteed to start this Test.

Yeah if Lee does come in, it'll be for Siddle.

That said, the vibes surrounding Lee aren't all that positive. He's an all or nothing bowler, and never been one to just pick up and go again. He has to be in good form to bowl well. I think they might stick with Siddle, but we'll see.

Shocker from billy off the first ball.
The standard of umpiring has been fucking rubbish this season.
That was bang on from hilfen.

The selecters refusal to replace players who are obviously and massively off form is going to cost us the ashes.
Ravi Bopara should have been removed after the second test.
Fucking shit. Now were waiting for Cooks usual failure. We're fucked.

Sticking with Siddle looks a wise choice considering how well hes bowling this morning. I was very surprised to see them go in with no spinner!
