THE ASHES... 2009

Strike that. England are bowling some proper shite.

18 runs off Onions' first over!!

Pretty glad I went for a haircut today instead of watching this pile of shite.

I guarantee we bottle it at the Oval aswell

Update: England are still shite! Strauss should be given a slap for these tactics. (But it does grate when Botham moans about wayward bowling - he used to bowl some atrocious stuff. The odd thing was that they often led to shots that were caught!)

I agree about Botham's bowling. I well remember test matches when he toiled for hours bowling total rubbish!

OK we all know Botham was a great cricketer, but he has been sanctified by the passage of time.

England supporters are accustomed to the situation where England have to bat out for a draw, and in that situation Botham was hopeless. He came to the wicket and swing his big heavy bat at every delivery that went whistling past him, until he was out.

Yes, which was even more irritating because he actually had excellent technique when he bothered to use it and was perfectly capable of really clean and disciplined defensive shots. His brain, however, was the size of a pea.

It was only a metter of time before Australia clicked.

England are too afraid to go and try to win the thing.

nearly all the experts Ive heard have said how close this ashes test series will be, I guess you hear what you want to hear.
Correct. I think its been balanced to say the least.

Im not over confident myself. Our problem for years has been closing out games we should have won. So i see Australia battering us in ONE test and then us trying to knock them over for the other four.
Im going to say 1-1 Australia to retain thanks to our inability to take 10 wickets in a full days play.
Yup.

Yep.

Waving the bat.

The selecters refusal to replace players who are obviously and massively off form is going to cost us the ashes.
Ravi Bopara should have been removed after the second test.
Fucking shit. Now were waiting for Cooks usual failure. We're fucked.
Oncy you can't just drop these lads after a few failures mate, otherwise England would just be swapping and changing the team all of the time. Bopara scored 3 tons in the series before this and is potentially a very good player and Cook averaged 50+ in the 2nd test match.

Who would you bring in for these 2 if they were dropped?
Strauss
Key
Bell
Shah
Collingwood
Flintoff
Prior
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Sidebottom

Well Key and Shah are both over 32 (i think), so thats a real short term solution mate + neither of them have exactly done well at Test level in the past.

It'll be interesting to see what England go with at the Oval. A win is a must so thats a dead cert 5 bowlers needed (hopefully Flintoff is fit)

I suspect that Ravi will get dropped for Trott and Harmison out for Freddie.

Assuming the weather is good, this test match should be a cracker (if England can post a score of course)
Yup its short term. But here we are with one to play and our ENTIRE batting order out of nick.
Theres county games this week and everyone of the cunts better be playing to try and eke out a bit of form. Key, Ramprakash and Shah are playing well at county level and all have SOME experience for England.
Of course non of it will happen, but only Collingwood and Strauss have come through this tournament with any credibility intact. Bopara, Cook, Bell and Pieterson have been fucking jokes. Especially the first two given theyve had 8 goes each to play out.

It'll be interesting to see what changes they make, it's got to be a min of 2-3.

I think every England supporter knew that without KP and Freddie it would be near on impossible to win this series. Lets just hope that Freddie can work his magic one last time.

Haha, apt description but when he scores, he scores big!

Ravi out, Trott in.

Why has it taken 8 innings to decide he was off form!

I would have gone for Key.
Oui moi aussi.

How on earth has Bell managed to keep his place? The guy is poo. He has a decent average against the poorer nations but when he's up against any of the top 3 teams he has looked rubbish. I would have kept Bopara but dropped him down the order.

That puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on Trott for the last game of the Series.

although there is no doubt key can bat peggy, he is a disgrace to professional sport. He is a big fat fucker, how the fuck can a pro be so fat is beyond me. He could not run for the ball to save a four or a quick run out. England banned Rashid as he was too fat recently so they can hardly play Key who is even fatter.

Aussies would have an easy sledging opportunity there

It's OK, he can handle it. He's South African.

Cricket is a sport in which being a big fat fucker, albeit a disadvantage, doesn't rule you out completely. Some heroes from the past like Colin Milburn have been rotund. There are even some tubby bowlers around who often have their day!

It's like in the amateur matches when a big fat middle-aged guy comes to the crease. The fielding side snigger, whereupon the old fat guy twats the ball to the boundary in all directions!

;D

God im shitting my pants.
I think when alls said and done, the momentum has switched so much that it really is Australias to lose. And as i've suspected all along, we'll struggle to take all 20 wickets, which you would imagine will be more difficult than ever with the Aussi's remit undoubtably will be 'Dont give your wicket away easily'.
Its going to take a hell of a performance from England to take the urn and if im honest i dont see it.
1-1
Man of the series. M.Clarke, a truly great player.
