THE ASHES... 2009

Fair play to the selectors for keeping faith with Broad - although his decent batting average made it easier for them to justify standing by him.
He was never going to get dropped. He's been very good with the bat.

It was a topic of discussion a few times on Radio 5 during the series and I heard a few "experts" make a case for dropping him although in fairness most said he deserved more time.

A lead of 300 would be decent on this track, but time is such that we can look to bat for a full day and a half if needs be.
Its not in the balance at all. It is ours to lose.
Be positive, play your shots and win the fucker lads.

No-one's hanging about for a day and a half on this track Oncy.
Not when you throw your wicket away as Bell and Collingwood just did the fucking dicks.
NO STUPID SHOTS LADS! Take them as they come to you. Let the bowlers give you runs.

What aninteresting finale this is going to be.

Despite the detoriating pitch, if Australia can get England out and be left with a total of around 350... they might still bag this one.

A few more twists and turns in this one methinks.

Australia absolutely have to get Strauss out quickly.

I fancy Ponting to hit a big score in the second innings.

worry is the aussies will not bad as badly again, remember they were well on their way to chase down 500 at lords.

this pitch may be harder but i would not feel too comfy unless we set them 350, as long as we are still batting at lunch then until tea and put them in for a late night struggle

Pffft, they'll do well to. He's dead-batting everything, as he should be.

He won't send Australia out to bat with anything less than 400 to get. For once, it's England's to lose.

put them in tonight, two days to bowl them out

ashes coming home

Looks like it.

Whilst improbable, the fact the aussies have 2 full days to get 466 makes me slightly nervous. They can block everything, and only go for the bad balls tomorrow. To leave them a target of 200 or less the final day

That said, it IS improbable and would be the biggest choke ever in the history of sport.

Yep, it's England's to loose, but Australia has made a decent start and they do have batsmen of a high enough calibre to put the requireed score together. Only Hussey & Watson haven't registered test centuries against England in this series (but Watson's certainly on form with the bat, only failing toscore a 50 once in 4 innings).

A lot will fall on Pontings shoulders. he has to hit a very big score, otherwise he will go down in history as loosing the ashes twice in sucession in Engalnd. A makor blemish in an otherwise fantastic career.

As I said, they've got the calibre to hit the requirec score. They've also got plenty of time in which to do it.

Another interesting day's cricket coming up.

Very poor captaincy from Strauss last night, but the Aussies need a miracle. Expect the Aussies to be skittled by late afternoon.

Why does Strauss never take the bull by the horns in those situations? I've lost count at how many times he's given up the ascendancy late afternoon this series.

Still, I fancy England to bowl them all out today.

Me either, I winced when fox wrote that comment above, it's not a forgone conclusion, esp not considering thunder & rain forecast there tomorrow.

Weather is the only thing that will stop England from winning here Jon. There's no way Australia will make 550 odd.
