THE ASHES... 2009

Did Eoin Morgan make the one day squad?
I think he got a couple of twenty twenty games earleier in the season but didn't particularly excell.

Ed Joyce did blow his last chance big time but that shouldn't exclude him from getting another go based on previous selection policy where some players seemed to have had numerous opportunities to prove themselves.

this sucks not having sky! i know its very late in the day to ask but does anybody have any links?

Do you have any friends who have sky? I've been using my mate's sky player login for months now without any problems.

my bros got it.... he aint a home.... fuck it!

TMS will have to do
You misunderstood him I think mate. Get your bro to sign up for Skyplayer online (he prob has already, it's free to sky subscribers). He can then give the log in details to you, go on the sky player site, download the player & you use it with his log in details.

Provided your brother doesnt stream live tv at the same time as you it'll work perfectly, it doesnt matter what IP it's used from.

Neither team should feel overly confident going into this and I reckon it will be a close, exciting series but featuring 2 teams playing below their best. I reckon it will finish 2-1 either way with maybe England shading it due to home advantage.
Considering I know fuck-all about cricket I am quite happy with this prediction. It was a hugely entertaining series contested by 2 average teams and in the end home advantage probably swung it England's way.

Well said mate!

Allthough i feel a little uneasy saying it with no Welsh lads contributing this time around.
Well just say well done England, South Africa and all the other countries that made up the team then 😉
Ha.

It looks likely that England (&Wales) will have 3 SA's in the team going on tour over there this winter.

I see that England have lined up another SA and West Indian that qualify for the team soon as well 🙂
i hate all this we have SA folk in our team ETC ETC. It was like all the fuss made over Peterson being captain when we have had other SA born players captaining us before. Trott was born in SA but both his parents are English, so he is english. If your English parents are in he forces and you are born in Germany you are not German are you.

Its not like the 80s where SA players had to play for us as they were banned. All sports leverage rules for getting other players in form abroad, fuck me Rugby and Athletics are worse as is football (brazilians for hire).

Well done England, loved it even though when I went to the OVal on Thursday it actually turned out the be the worst day of the match

SA on tour will be very tough, drop Collingwood from squad and of course Harmisson and play this 11.

I think if Freddie hadn't run out Ponting with that great throw, the Aussies might have done it! They were looking worryingly comfortable.

It's better than this rubbish.

And any team playing baseball has probably played 90 games in the time it's taken one cricket game to finish.

Fuck off is it!

It's a poncy grown up version of rounders, played by junkies.

How people can sit and watch that shite for 9 innings is beyond me.

How can people watch a bunch of unfit gentlemen play the slowest game known to man for nearly three months ?

I might take you seriously normally Rosco, but once again I'll point out that you're a fan of baseball.

Cricket in every aspect of the game is more entertaining for the viewer and much more challenging to play for the participants.

Basically Baseball is a simpletons version of cricket, but without any of the wonderful subtleties and none of the physical threat that cricket has to offer.

You're actually more ignorant about Baseball than I am about cricket
I've tried to watch a game on a few occasions, but it seriously sends me to sleep. The fielding is allright i suppose, but then again they do all wear gloves.

Yeah but there are a lot more subtleties to the game than you think. It took me quite a while to get into it.

I've tried to figure them out in cricket but failed.

Cricket is great and a brilliant SPORT.

There are loads of sublities to the game. There are a number of different 'types' of bowlers who are able to produce something different each time, and make the ball do loads of different things is excellent.

The batting is not just about hitting the ball as hard and as far as possible, again there are different strokes and shots that are a joy to watch.

The fact cricket has a number of different form in the test games, the 50 over and the 20 over makes for better viewing and again shows the depth of the cricketers ability as they have to change it up.

It is a great sport and a thoroughly enjoyable DAYS worth of sport.

collingwood deserves to stay in the squad but not the team, you talk about his 70 odd at cardiff but you say drop cook who only score about 20 less than him in the series facing the new ball but got a higher individual score.

You have to think of the future as well, cook and bopara (who has had a great start to his england career but is not a number 3 or 4) are young boys who can stay in the team for yrs. Collingwood is at then end of his.

There is no doubt he is a battler and can save games but that is not what we are looking for. Aussies dominated world cricket for yrs playing aggressive cricket, scoring at 4 or more an over. I was at the oval Thursday watching Collingwood and Bell going at less than 2 an over and its not going to win you matches unless pitches cut up as the oval did.

Make the odd tweak and this could be a good england side for years to come.

Someone is going to have to give way for Rashid soon because this lad is Englands number 7 in waiting. He's taking wickets (big wickets too) and scoring 100's, with nearly everyone in the game singing his praises.

It's just a matter of time before Bopara gets back into the Test side, He's the 2nd most talented batsman England have and after getting dropped went and scored 200 odd in his next innings. Colly must be very concerned about his position in this team.

I only really look at the fast bowling department and worry a little, i haven't seen a young fast bowler coming through for a while.

Theirs quite a few players that i think have a chance of breaking into this side quite soon:

Lumb - He really reminds me of Matty Hayden, a big lefty who likes to dominate
Denly - Looks the part at times but he doesn't get enough runs at county level for me just yet.
Rashid - He'll be the new star of the england team in a couple of seasons
Kieswetter - Another SA convert who keeps well and is an out and out batsman
Jordan - West Indian allrounder who's showing a lot of promise, he can bowl at 85+ and has talent with the bat.
Finn - A very tall seam bowler who has the potential to develop into a decent quicky

I'd expect Lumb and Rashid to go to SA, but the other youngsters will have to wait another couple of seasons before making the grade imo.

If i could pick the England Team:

Strauss
Lumb
KP
Trott
Bopara
Prior
Rashid
Broad
Swann/Tremlett
Onions
Anderson
