A second helping of pastry.

In that clip the best bit was the look of delight on his face at the end... a nice moment for the lad and i really liked how Klopp was acknowledging the players for their efforts..

I'm sorry, I was proud of my joke!

Back on point, I couldn't agree more with this post, our issue is penetration, (1)what's the point of having all this playmaking ability if no one is stretching the backline. Its why a striker with a goal threat would make a massive difference to us, Origi just doesn't seem interested / capable of running the channels and stretching the defence, if he could we'd open up a load of space, and be much more dangerous. (2) I'd expected to see more of this from Firmino too, but he's disappointed a little in that regard so far, but that could be down to him coming back to fitness and finding his place in the team. Texieira pleasantly surprised me on Wednesday as he was a lot more direct and pacey than I expected, his run for the goal was a testament to that, for those reasons alone, I hope he gets some more game time, even if its from the bench.

  1. Yeah, but not only a striker. If Hendo had been healthy, he could have been instructed to make his trademark bursts into the space behind the defense and that would have given us a different threat. Milner should do more of this too; he's well capable of losing his marker and sneaking into the box and he actually did a bit of that in his first few games here, when he was playing with more swagger and less of a defensive burden. Had Markovic been here, he would be a good candidate for this job of a "runner" (although his finishing needed a lot of improvement last season). Many people mention Ibe, but I think while he is physically very fast, he is fundamentally a kind of player who likes to run with the ball a lot more than without. He's still at an age when he can learn though.
  2. I think Firmino's balance of attacking work with the ball to work without the ball is around 50/50 (whereas for the likes of Coutinho or Ibe it's something like 90/10). So he will provide some kind of outlet, but he also needs someone to pass TO and if you try to just make him a "runner" you will have only half the player. It worked so well with Teixeira on Wednesday because the latter was happy to look for space rather than just wait for the ball, so Firmino had a partner AND an outlet.

Was it his back heel which led to the goal?? Cos it was a pretty slick piece of skill whoever did it...
Indeed it was. And it was so good that, and I've not seen this mentioned anywhere, the keeper actually gave up on it immediately (didn't even bother looking back, just looked to the heavens) convinced it was going in.

Don't forget Ibe too. It was working on both sides of the pitch.

My one disappointment from Wednesday's match was that Teixera's back heel didn't cross the line.

It would surely have surpassed Rooney's overhead kick as the best goal ever scored in the whole history of mankind.

Trufax. Not enough was made of that SUBLIME PIECE OF SKILL
