I know it's only one game but he looks like a mature player, with talent and brains and a bit of fight too. I like how he shields the ball with his body – very difficult to nick it off him. He tracked back no problem. Passing was crisp and timely (apart from that overhit pass that let to a dangerous Bournemouth counter – that was naive), I love how he has the confidence to turn and face the goal almost any time he receives the ball, the run beyond the defensive line for the goal was lovely and exactly what the likes of Lallana and Coutinho don't do enough of. His first couple of corners were shite, but as he picked up in confidence the deliveries markedly improved and the free-kick at the end was sweetly struck. Finally his understanding and chemistry with both Firmino and Clyne is refreshing since so many of our attacking players have no chemistry between them whatsoever.

Overall, a great debut and I'm excited to see how he develops. On this evidence he seems to have enough trickery and physicality to play on the wing and that could be his ticket to making it in this team.

Not actually his debut for us, he's played once before and if I remember correctly he was also very good in that one too - unfortunately Rodgers surprisingly didn't use him again after that. Though going to Brighton, where he was voted their 'Young Player of the Year', was a great move for him and could have greatly contributed to the player we saw yesterday. I hope he continues to earn appearances, especially from the bench for now.

Firmino, Coutinho, Lallana and Texeira are all though vying for one of the starting attacking positions. Klopp said in the post-match (or maybe pre-match) interview, when asked where was Firmino's best position, "he can play in any attacking position, he just likes to play" .. or words to that effect. I hope that doesn't mean Firmino is shuffled wide to accommodate Coutinho (who also plays well as an 'inside left'). And that is where I see Texeira getting his starts/subs from now on .. exactly where he played yesterday, though I'm sure I also saw him playing on the right for Brighton ?

I think the issue at this point is we don't quite know where Coutinho fits in Klopp's system, because he didn't have a single convincing performance under the new manager yet. I predicted that he will be playing mainly from the left with Firmino in the middle, but if he doesn't make the left-wing position his own, I could see him being tried deeper in the midfield 3 as Rodgers sometimes did.

Klopp likes to keep his attack asymmetrical and in his previous team when one flank was occupied by a #10 type who likes to cut in, then the other was more often then not given to a more orthodox winger. It seems that compared to our other AMs Teixeira has a bit more pace and willingness to make attacking runs without the ball and not just do the playmaking. So he potentially has the skill set to be both a back-up #10 and to compete with Ibe (and maybe Milner) for the winger position.

He played a great game, Sadly he is way down the pecking order.

You have four players vying to play in one position..

He is 4th on the list..

Rodgers was a dickhead though to omit him from the Europe League Squad.

He should be getting game time in that competition..

Foul language aside, I think it's a valid point – it really makes no sense that Tex is not in the Europa league squad. Rodgers always used that competition to play the reserves and he promised Teixeira to give him playing time this season... and then "forgot" to include him in the squad! Simply inexplicable.

Play Firmino upfront, that frees up the space. Use Origi and Ibe as wingers. That will allow Tex to come on as sub for Coutinho or Llalana

Kinda what I was getting at. .

You said it better though lol..

Well moved on..

It's a valid point though..

He should not of been omitted from the EL squad.. Daft decision..

I don't agree - you say he's 4th in the depth chart for ONE position ... so if we are serious about winning the competition, and Rodgers wasn't sold on him, why was he a 'prick' for not picking him?

Rodgers put in the youngsters whom he thought could contribute, and had he not been under the pressure he was (rightly) under, he probably would have given Tex some minutes (or at least be on the bench more often) in the league.

Maybe he just didn't rate him ...

The lad is class. He looked class when he first played against us in that under-21 tournament, and it was a no-brainer that we tried to sign him pretty much there and then - the only surprise was that we actually succeeded! It would be crazy not to encourage him this season with chances in the first team.

He's already 23, old than Coutinho, is there not a chance that this boat has already sailed?

He may not have been a dickhead for omitting Tex from the EL squad, but he was for managing to oversee a situation where THREE players ended up ahead of him in the squad for the same fucking position.

I think Klopp has to make a couple of big decisions. We have Lallana, Teixeira, Coutinho & Firmino, all natural number 10's who don't play anywhere near as well in other positions.

It's a ridiculous situation & isn't helping the two young players confidence at all.

On form, I'd say you need to play Firmino, & it'd be cruel not to have Teixeira on the bench to reward him, but you cannot risk not including countinho in the squad, cos he is one of the few players who can create a match winning moment out of nothing.

Tex apparently doesn't qualify as home grown and he's over 21 so there was no place for him really. What I heard anyway.

Full squad: Mignolet, Bogdan, Clyne, Gomez, Toure, Lovren, Moreno, Sakho, Skrtel, Lucas, Henderson, Milner, Can, Allen, Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino, Origi, Ings, Sturridge, Benteke

He's regarded as a senior player, so who should he be ahead of?

If Klopp gets this high pressing game going in the near future, all the players whom Tex is behind of in the pecking order are going to be shattered by around the 70 minute mark, so there ought to be plenty of opportunities for him to come off the bench and show what he can do against a tiring opposition. Where he goes from there is up to him.

I think we're allowed a 25 man squad, so we had 4 free slots. He could/should have taken one of them.

He can only be pleased with his performance and I'm sure Klopp is. He didn't look out of place or phased and even commanded the ball for a free kick late on which he struck well. One misdirected pass aside, he did well enough to get more chances.

Aren't we allowed changes to the squad after the group stages ? Assuming we make it through of course.

Yep:

Apparently Mignolet and Lovren had fallen out over who got first dibs on Joao's sister, however in the end they decided Teixeira
